Sorry, no new episode today. Now is a great time for all of you new viewers to go back and catch up on the older episodes. Have a great weekend everybody!
What a shocker with the Jets! Who would of thought, except Gary of course. It doesn’t look like my Packers are gonna be much of a contender this year. Oh well. Hey Gary it’s 3:30 on Monday, where’s the WLTV?

Its a good thing that you know a lot more about wine than football. The Bucs “a lock?” Please. My Ravens annihilated the Bucs 27-0 on the road. Oh… and did you know that the Arizona Republic ranked the Jets dead last, as in 32nd, in thier NFL power rankings list. Go Ravens.
Did you see those Falcons!?!?!?!?!?
The Jets are lucky to not have a game against them…especially if they plan on a 16 and 0 season…DON’T THINK SO BABY!!!
Lets go Dirty Birds!!!!!

I live in the city….I will take free shipping too!!
Watched the end of the game in the Nashville airport as I was there early then the Jets fans started pouring in the airport to head home. They were there and in Atlanta. Crazy folks but a really great game up to the last seconds. I’m hoping you took the day off to honor 9/11 so if that is the case thanks and thanks for what you do Gary.

What a Jet game! I was in Vegas this weekend where before kick off I slapped down 20 units on Gang Green to go all the way this season. I know its a long way off, but I’m going to need your help in figuring out what wine I should celebrate with when my 60:1 ticket pays off!
PS. What happened to your lock of the week?

Click on the wine bottle icon next to your name. That will take you to gravatar.com, where you can upload an image that will (eventually – takes a week or so) appear next to your name in your comments.
Hey, have a nice weekend Gary. Don’t fall asleep during that “riviting” Jets/Titans matchup on Sunday. Hey, but go Titans! (Coach Fisher is an ex-Monster of the Midway from the 85 Bears!!).
At least I get the Bears going to Lambau Field to help Favre onto his retirement campaign. That’ll be Bears 20, Packers 9 (14 of the the 20 Bears points will be from the defense). I’ll be drinking, probably water again. I’ll have some beer when I’m watching the Sunday night game, unless my wife and I decide to have a good dinner, then I’ll break out a bottle of whatever bottle of wine I feel like from my rack of 7 bottles.
And a “MERRY FIRST WEEK OF FOOTBALL TO EVERYONE!!!”. See you later, Go Bears!

no one deserves a break more than gary… have some good down time, mate!

Hey Tony…
here are 2 web sites to get you started the first is a listing for all wine makers in the area the 2nd is for our new wine and culinary center that is a must see….
Thank you Doug and Peter for the reading info. I was this very day wondering if there were something comprehensive that I could read that would answer all my questions since Gary won’t.
Seriously, GV has answered all of my intelligent questions…..both of them.
I’m intimidated by all this wine knowledge that’s floating around out there; maybe these books will keep me from asking stupid questions. Thanks again, guys.
Big games for the Buckeye State this weekend…Bucks & Longhorns and my Bengals vs KC.
My QOD: What wine goes well with a pulverized, overly-done Kansas City steak?

A great quick read is Wine & War by Don & Petie Kladstrup. It focuses on stories about people and families and the role that wine played in their life, particularly in France, during WWII. The most memorable story for me was about the WWII prisoners of war in Germany organizing a very elaborate and intense wine tasting to keep their spirits up. I learned that Champagne is the best wine to drink if you want to win a war.
Just as well that I wasn’t near my computer all day today.
Gary, I’m going to be going to the Finger Lakes in about a month. I’ve never been there before and know nothing about the wines there. Could you pretty please do an episode on the best wines of the Finger Lakes region? I’m really looking forward to the trip, but I’m really flying blind right now. Any help you could provide would be appreciated.
Pretty please?
Favorite wine book…that’s tough. I like different books for different things. Sometimes I like to read about the history, characteristics and wines of specific wine regions. Sometimes I want a good wine guide, listing specific wines. Sometimes I like to read about the people and history of wine. So, I’d be hard put to pick a single book. Most recent read was The Emperor of Wine – great history of RP’s influence on wine.

Hey Douglas, I recently picked up the Wine Bible at a Sam’s club for 7 bucks . What fantastic read. you got it right! No need to look further. Between this book and WLTV the knowledge gain is amazing.

I am so shocked and disappointed! No, not because there’s no new episode today, but because no one yet has thought to step in with his/her own Question of the Day! Here’s one to start a conversation, and I don’t think Gary has asked this before: What is your favorite wine book? Mine is probably The Wine Bible by Karen MacNeil. It’s very thorough but accessible.
