I had comments prepared yesterday, but I got pulled away and they got deleted. In a nutshell…I like this episode. I think most of us take great pride in finding diamonds in the rough. I remember you tasting the NO on a previous episode. The Arrocal label looks familiar, but I will definitely try a bottle.

Cartoons? There are so many to choose from.

    Speed Racer
    Fat Albert
    Scooby Doo
    Looney Toons
    Tom & Jerry
    Clutch Cargo
    Justice League
Peanuts — even though they were features as opposed to regular ‘toons

Thanks for the diamonds today Gary. will have to try them.
Question for you though. Opened 2 bottles of Wyndham Estate 2001 Bin 555 Shiraz last night for guests. Boought 3 bottles at the same time form WL, all stored identically and opened at the same time. One, was outstanding complex nose initial and midpalate. The other totally 1 dimensional cherry juice. Don’t understand this one at all. Even wondered if the put different wines in the bottles.

Speaking of “I’m Just A Bill”, one of the funniest parodies the Simpsons ever did was the “Amendment To Be” takeoff:

“I’m an amendment to be, yes an amendment to be,
and I’m hopin’ that they’ll ratify me.
There’s a lot of flag burners who have got too much freedom.
I wanna make it legal for policemen to beat ‘em,
cause there’s limits to our liberties.
‘Least I hope and pray that there are,
cause those liberal freaks go too far.”

    Gary,
On a trip through Yakima Valley, I bought a few bottles of Snoqualmie Reserve Merlot 2000. I thought all my bottles were gone and found one in my cellar and drank it. I had forgotten what a great wine it was so a googled the wine and found your site. I have been a huge fan since. Although I live in Washington State, I travel a lot and hope to get a chance to drop into your store sometime soon. Thanks,
    Tim

Thought folks might be interested in a recent news story my company did on wine and global warming (shameless plug). Next big wine growing region? Southern England (!). Check out http://www.sciencentral.com/articles/view.php3?type=article&article_id=218392849

QOD: I grew up on Jetsons, Looney Toons, etc. But I love SP (esp the “Smug” episode with the hybrid cars, and the perfect storm formed by San Francisco and George Clooney’s Oscar acceptance speech).

    Gary,
This was a wonderful episode! Your excitement for each of the diamonds was apparent throughout. I’m a huge fan of Sauvignon Blanc as well, and would love to see an EP on Sancerre. I appreciated your comments about RP on the inexpensive Spanish reds. Definitely a situation where I have learned to purchase based on his descriptions rather than numericals – and sometimes I agree with the quality, while other times not. I’ve looked at the Bodegas Arrocal several times in the store, but always end up buying a bottle (or two) of the Hecula instead. :-) However now with your glowing review, I’ll definitely give Arrocal a try for 12 “bones”. Thanks for the QOD! Definitely agree with other commenters that the all time classic cartoon fave is the Saturday morning Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner show – especially the Barber of Seville episode. For adult irreverance I like South Park. Gary when you first mentioned cartoon I thought you meant printed, so I’ll also mention Calvin & Hobbes. Looking forward to your return for the next episode, C

    Gary,
If you like Sauvignon Blank, how come you never talk about white Bordeaux?
I think there are some incredible bargains there.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, I’ve got to give a huge shout-out to School House Rock. That was some of the best material ever put on TV for kids. I have the DVDs and still watch them. If you’ve got kids, do yourself a favor and get the DVD — they’re all great.

Gary – Laff-a-Lympics was great. I don’t know why but I always used to root for Yogi’s team. The funniest part was always when the Really Rottens would cheat and get points taken off the board. It seemed like they wound up with negative points every episode…

Hi Gary! Great show, I love the concept and been a fan since about 2 weeks ago, I have watched almost all of the 94 episodes so far (weekend marathon) and liked them a lot, it is really been an eye opener for me. Sadly here in Mexico we don’t have a wine store like Wine Library, we have a few “decent” places but you are tight up with a few choices, all I can do is wait to travel to the US to start tasting the wonderfull selections that you are tasting. Thanks for the good times.
About sports, I am Cowboys fan since birth and would love to give you a hard time with the Jets, but I can’t. I don’t know what happend, what I did wrong but my son is a huge fan of the Jets and I don’t want to start a family feud because someone took the wrong way. I just hope he can grow up and leave the bad choices he made as a kid behind.
For the QOD my favorite cartoon are the Flintstones and the Pink Panther.
ok, now for the best part, you have become a really international star, I see that Jaym is from Canada and myself from Mexico, so you have the whole of north America covered. If there are people from other countries it woud be great to know where they are.
What about a Mexican wine episode, the wine industry here is trying very hard to become known in all the world, and we have some pretty nice wines to talk about, especially the Monte Xanic Cab that won the Wine Masters Challenge in 2005.
Thanks again for the good times and keep up this great show.

    Hi Gary,

Yet another nice episode. Too bad that most of the wines you describe are not available in eastern Canada.

Just one small thing: In french, we don’t pronounce the “c” in blanc. It’s “blan”, not “blank”!

    :-)

    Hey Gary,

What’s with the bottle of Ting?
Are you planning on leaving us to go to Jamaica?

    South Park
    Ren and Stimpy
    Bevis and Butthead
    Old School WB
    And Thundercats HHHHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I wish you had twisted the cap off the NO today…that would have been classic! I have found that I really enjoy that wine also. It has a great straight forward SB taste…When one reads the bottle they know exactly what they are getting. Great episode today. I will most likely get the Olson after the hoorah you gave it.

I’ve got a really good idea for a future episode.

    WLTV Live!

Put the word out several weeks in advance and have people show up at Wine Library on a Saturday or Sunday. The idea would be that as your tasting the wine, the people there can taste as well. I think it would be a great opportunity for people to actually try all of the wines that are shown in any given episode.

Would also be fun to have everyone rate the wines to see how everyone’s tastes vary.

    Now…Kim Possible

    Loved this episode. Thank you.

Awesome episode. Speaking of Sancerre, you should do an episode with some Sauv Blancs from the region.

Current favorite cartoon: The Venture Bros.
    Others (in no particular order):
    South Park
    The Simpsons
    The Family Guy
    Aqua Teen Hunger Force

    Good evening all!

Gary – I have to ditto Mark Z above and commend you for the pre-taping of WLTV – the effort is much appreciated by your viewers.

Only gripe – why the heck didn’t you do this episode last night… lol – I placed a pick-up order last night (I saw the Match Cab came back in and didn’t want to wait to do the shopping in store) so while I was at it – I needed to get a few whites and added them to the order. Now here you add 2 more for me try (and of course I’ll have to support my fellow surfers w/ the Olson). Looks like I now have to do a little in store shopping tomorrow when I pick up the order. :)

OK, all joking aside – QOD: Beavis & Butthead, Scooby Doo, Woody Woodpecker, Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry and the Jetsons!!!

P.S. – I see a few new names popping up on the board lately, so I just wanted to say Hi to all the new members and thanks for joining – aside from Gary, they various perspectives that everyone provides really helps to make this a better forum and helps us all to discover those little gems like we are seeing on the episode today!

Did Gary throw out a “NICE PACKAGE” today on the 2005 John Anthony Sauvignon Blanc????

QOD – Have to go with Jetsons – Way ahead of their time…
