V a y n e r – C H U K – unleashed and off the Richter!! Big thanks for tasting some Chablis, which was one of my requests a few episodes ago when you were tasting the Sav Blancs. This gets me pumped for the upcoming episode on Sancerre, whevever that might be. Gary I agree with one of the other commenters. Great for one-time effect, but please lose the green screen behind you. It messes with the view on color, especially when you do whites. Still looking forward to an episode where you answer a bevy of wine-related questions. QOTD: Hard to imagine a better place than NYC. So many options to choose from, and you could have your entourage scope the place beforehand.

Thanks, SeanM! I’ll check it out.

Thought the NYers among the bunch might enjoy this news from NY Mag:
Liberated Plutocrats Free to Swill Cheap Wine
The rich keep getting richer: Word from one of our cognac-swilling, ascot-wearing friends is that caviar capital Petrossian, among the city’s most opulent spots, is waiving its corkage fees. This is actually quite a concession; most restaurants make their money from wine and liquor, of course, and a lot of top tables don’t let you bring your own wine in at all. “We don’t accept that, no,” a reservationist at Cru tells us helpfully, adding, “We do have an excellent wine selection.” Per Se, meanwhile, allows diners to bring their own — if they’re willing to shell out $90 a bottle to have it uncorked. In honor of their tax-breaks-for-the-rich generosity, we raise a glass to Petrossian — a glass of two-buck chuck, poured directly from a Trader Joe’s bag.

Gary, another great episode. Your Vblog rocks. What do you think of the white bordeauxs? and when are you doing the heat episode? QOD: Host the party at your place!

Gary Great Show – You we’re pumped up!

What are the chances of the Jets beating Indy this week. I may pick it as a long shot in my pool. Can they win a shootout?

Where ever you have the Party I’m sure it will be great! I would favor something in New Jersey.

How about closing the store early one nite and having it there!!
That will keep cost down, and we can spend more $ on the wine!!

The closest I can find of an autograph that matches the one on that mini-helmet is Chad Pennington (with a little number 10 under it)…

If we are partying in January – it better be in LA. Lets go someplace “Rosey” in January!

    Julia,

Get the map from one of the tourist propaganda bins and look at the hundreds of wineries in OR and have a panic attack. When you calm down, make a plan, something like, head to Carlton and McMinnville, look on the map there are a bunch of wineries close together in both towns. In Portland go to the convention center and get a tasting at Appellation Oregon, http://www.urbanwineworks.com/apporegon/index.html
I really liked the Bishop Creek Pinot Noir, or go over to the Urban Wineworks (same link) if you have more time.
    Also visit: http://www.oregonwine.org/
I visited, Laurel Ridge, Rex Hill, Solena, Cueno, The Carlton Winemakers Studio (10 wineries in one building), I get foggy,,,, all had something worthwhile.

    Great episode. Keep it coming.

QOTD – The Pegasus at the Meadowlands. Nice place, good food, and convenient to most of us in the area (and not to mention close to Newark airport for those who would come from out of town).

WOW!! What exuberance! All that energy is contagious. Made me want to mow my lawn, wash the windows and build a new addition onto my home!

I, like Jaye, wish you’d trash the GD’s….like a bad wine, offensive nose and leaves a bad taste on the palate. I pass.

damon, glad to know there’s another Bengals fan out there. Wasn’t pretty, but the Steelers had to go down. GV, who’s your pick in the Bengals/Pats game Sunday?

Chris Stan: A quality effort on your DB! Thank you for all the hard work. Do you have one available as an email?

QOD: Your new apartment. Think of all the house-warming gifts.

Folks: I’m going to Portland, OR next week. Any suggestions on vineyards that shouldn’t be missed? I want to try to check out SakeOne, too, in advance of the episode GV has promised. Thanks!

    Bill,

If you have Excel or Word you can copy and paste the table with a little effort. Remember though, they will be updating the online table..

Portland OR would be a great place to have a WLTV party, heck, make it a whole trip with excursions to the local wineries. Not that I’ll be attending while I work of the debt incurred after my trip to Europe.

I love Chablis – only white wine I’ll drink, actually. It’s what my dad used to drink growing up, albeit the Carlo Rossi jug stuff (which, doesn’t even use chardonnay grapes). But, at least it got me intrigued enough to try the real thing. I don’t know, something gratifying about being into a region that everyone else doesn’t understand. Reckon that makes me shallow. Nice to see an episode with so much about Chablis, though.

Come to DC for the wine party, Gary V. Went to a Burgundy tasting last week at the French embassy (INCREDIBLE!!!). I say you do it there. Seriously, a man with your connections in the wine world could pull that off…

Nice aside about Allen Meadows. For Burgundy, he’s everything Robert Parker is not.

John Weippert – I really don’t think California wine is all that overpriced. What is over priced to you? There are TONS of excellent $40 Ca Cab, and unbelievable $40 Ca Pinot Noir. Compared to Bordeaux, it’s relatively cheap. I personally think that price could never kill a market. The market will bear what the public will pay. If sales dramatically fall off…price should follow. There are so many people still after Ca Cult Wines and high priced reserves that I think CA could follow Bordeaux and keep rising.

Where’s all the California people? Where’s all the San Francisco votes? I’ll be there, but why would you all really want it in NYC? Just for convenience sake? Cmon…I would vote for Portland, OR for a great wine experience before I would vote NYC. Now I know NYC is the greatest city in the world, best restaurants and all…but let’s get creative and REALLY make it a time to remember!

Looking forward to the WL tasting party GV. Anywhere in NJ or NYC is certainly good with me. I am glad your Jets are doing well but the Bears are going to kill them in the Meadowlands in November. Sorry……………………

Can’t wait until episode 100. Loved the energy on this episode.

Gary – Great episode! Love your energy.
Chris S / Winelibrary team – Amazing job on the spreadsheet! Very useful, I love it! Would be even better if I could download it to my PC. Perhaps someone already knows how to?

    Hey Gary
as you can imagine I was pumped to see this episode. The droin is indeed great wine and your call on the others was good as well though I think that the Fournaux will take a few years to come into its own. Give it 3-4 and watch it flesh out. That is one of the amazing things about white Burgundy. Some of the best ones are virtually undrikable in their youth. Case in point, the Jobard (now being made by the son). I have bottles of 1991 Poruzot and 1994 charmes in my cellar neither of which is an extraordinary year. These were undrikable acid bombs in their youth but a friend who knows said get them and wait (this was in my Burgundy youth). Sure enough, they are among the very best bottles in my cellar today. They have gotten broad and rich and they have the kind of depth of flavor cali chard dreams about and never achieves (including some of the one I like such as Kalin cellars). Which brings me once again to the 2003. You aren’t really doing Jonbard any favours by comparing his 2003 Charmes to a 2004 les clos. 2003 is a messed up year, particularly for whites, and all the more so for Chard. 2004 is a classic vintage whose wines have the grace one expects from Burgundy, especially in the grand crus. So aside from the apples and oranges of appelation (which I will forgive you for–though a strait Chablis tasting would be good, as would a strait low end Burgundy tasting-Macon et al), you are comparing a totally funky vintage to a great one. Try the Charmes from 2002 and tell me what you think. That is serious wine.
Oh yea, good on ya for giving Burghound a shoutout. He is THE MAN. Do a comparison of his ratings with Parkers and see how off Parker can really be when it comes to Burgundy–if nothing else. Anyway, thanks for giving us this and I’m waiting for my red episode.

Hats off to my big bro! The spreadsheet is absolutely amazing, you’ve obviously put alot of time and effort into this. Way to go Chris!

Lose the green background. When you showed the Chablis color, it looked like limeaid.

How about some place in Jersey? WL may be too small for the crowd but there are lots of good venues. How about where your Supertasting is being held?

I am in for Chicago!!! (I dont think that you would get a good turn out in IOWA, so I would make the drive (2.5 hours).
