Big Billy from Big D & EVERYBODY,

Vaynerchuklers doesn’t flow well, but I have another suggeston that is “related” to what you said about the deadheads:

    What about, “VaynerHEADS”….we’re all “VaynerHEADS”!!!!

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!!!!

Definitely need more bloopers. that would be awesome! there have to be plenty. Gary iss too much of a goof to do it in one take ;o

For a look at one of Gary’s scowls, go back to episode #56 with Robert Mondavi Jr. After he pours the first wine, he continues to swirl and sniff and swirl and sniff not looking very impressed as Robert goes on and on about how this is one of his favorites. Then Gary tastes, spits, dumps the rest and pushes the bucket over to Robert as if to say “just dump it and move on”. I would have liked to see and hear his reaction if Robert wasn’t there.

By the way, has anyone tried the 2002 Monchhof Urzinger Wurzgarten Auslese? It’s one of the Saturday only coupon specials. I’m trying to expand my wine experience beyond Beringer White Zinfandel and wonder if this is a good one to try. Gary recommended Rieslings to me in a prior episode. Would appreciate any recommendations from experienced white wine drinkers! Thanks.

Aaah, my WLTV fixx for the day. I’ll be nodding off now for a bit. THANKS to the WL crew for putting together a few choice moments, including at least one Veyner-BOB, and the hand sweep was pretty well timed with the song wrap up at the end. Looking forward to the real EP 100 next Wednesday!

Nice work Chris. I wasn’t expecting a show, so the retrospective was a nice treat.

Real fun episode and a great filler until next week. You folks are too hard on Pat B. My 14 yr old and some of his friends are getting into Benatar – as you know, everything old is new again!
As for the Vayner-isms, I’m with Big Billy from Big D (comment 7) – there was definitely a Vayner-glug or Vayner-gulp and that one should be added to the lexicon. You only see those when the wine is too good to spit.
Finally, Kudos to Andre – I have used the Ah-so – it’s a good wine-opener to keep in your bag when travelling – but it is definitely not easy to use. BrandonM said it right – Andre aka MacGyver.

Nice one Andre! One time I tried the very old “heat the neck of the bottle with an iron rod that fits around the neck, swipe the neck with a feather dipped in cold water, and snap…the glass breaks at the hot spot and you have wine” method.
I don’t recommend doing this with hand fashioned rod made from two coat hangers and a mock feather made of thick pipe cleaners!!! It was a mess. The bottle cracked alright but not the way I thought it would. The neck and I nice long chunk from the shoulder came off and then wine started pouring everywhere! I was scrambling for towels and laughing my ass off. I felt like Mr. Wizard though so it was cool.
I have since seen this done on a very old bottle of Port with tools made for the job and it was quite a success as the bottle/cork was well over 60 years old…the Port you ask? Yeah it was damn good.
Did you see this method in your research?

CHRIS MOTT, thanks for the fix. What a nice little surprise!! & HUGE Kudos for starting w/ the Corte Riva 1st….I laughed out loud. There is no question that the next “CHRIS MOTT JOINT” needs to be a “VAYNERism Greatest Hits”. IT WOULD BE AWESOME!!! You can use slow motion, replay and digital zooming…the possibility’s are endless. (GARY, please forward this to Chris and CC: me, so I know).

TONY DUNN, thanks for finding another V-CLANK (last wine on Ep #63). As you indicated…kind of a medium bodied V-CLANK. We’ll both keep looking for the full-blown V-CLANK

TO ALL, thanks for the many people who answered MY QOD from Ep #99 about their favorite V-ism. Also, some great new V-ism’s have been suggested. SUGGESTION moving forward – when nominating a new V-ism, try to footnote it w/ the actual episode/wine where the V-ism in question can be viewed (I say this because some of the descriptions have been so GREAT–phig’s comment #51 above for one, but many others–that I NEED to immediately see it.) I know some times this is not possible, but let’s all agree to try!!!!

Andre, GOL just changed my name blog name from “Chris Stanisci” to “SS Chris” for spreadsheet Chris.

I say from now on, you follow Brandon M. suggestion, and from now on your WLTV Blog name is “Andre McGyver” rather than “Andre aka asr2021″. What do you say? GREAT STORY & resourcefullness!!

I saw a story on BBC the other week in my hotel room in Kuala Lumpur about a guy who took a phto of himself every day for 6 years. He then put all the stills into a movie to show how he’d aged. Very similar experience GV… Good to see all the style… Can’t wait for #100

    Hey All,
I’m just now tryin to catch up on my WLTV. I’m away at school in NYC and so missed the episodes since early september. I just had what I thought to be a remarkable wine experience (maybe Gary’ll give me a prize or shout out for this) and needed to share it with y’all.

Before going to rugby practice I stopped by my local wineshop to grab a bottle of red for my late dinner, Argentine Malbec if you’re curious. Coming back to the dorms at 11pm I realized that I had left my corkscrew at my gf’s place. So, wanting to let the bottle breathe a little, I couldn’t wait to open it. I googled “open wine without a corkscrew” and got some crazy ideas. But I for one hate to waste wine (which would occur due to pushing the cork in) and was without a long fat screw to use in conjunction with my leatherman pliers in extracting the cork. So i thought about what to do. Then I remembered a funny corkscrew I read about in my faithful Wine for Dummies book: The Ah-So. It consists of a T shaped handle attached to two long, flat prongs spaced about the width of a cork. To use it one would work the prongs into the neck of the bottle around the cork with a seesaw motion, then turn and simultaneously pull out the cork.

I had never used this method before, but faced with my dilemma I improvised and created my own Ah-so. Using 2 collar-stays and a pair of pliers, I slid the collar stays in between the glass and cork an 1/8″ at a time until the tip of the collarstay passed the bottom of the cork, making a slight hissing noise. I had to plane down the thickness of the tip of the second collarstay with a scissor blade since it was more difficult to get it in between the glass and cork opposite the other previously inserted collarstay. Having inserted both past the bottom of the cork, I simultaneously grabbed the 2 exposed ends with my pliers and pulled; to my utter amazement and fascination the cork effortlessly glided out intact.

And so, having bored everyone, I sit here with the euphoric feeling of having solved a most daunting problem. Btw I did not see this method anywhere on the web. So I shall let my wine breathe and say cheers to you all for allowing me to share this with you and cheers to the writers of Wine for Dummies, my invaluable, first wine reference. ¡Salud!

Actually what cracks me up is the VeynerBOB. Its where the sholders scrunch up and the head bounces up and down right before the spit. We know that what follows will be happy review of a wine that has been appreciated. Conversely there is the no-bob prune face pucker where the whole head looks like its about to be sucked into the mouth followed by a pause and then an angry lip smack. That bodes ill for the wine being assessed. I don’t need the sound on or the comments to know where it’s going but it is kind of reassuring. Wouldn’t change a thing.
As for the out-take, it does give the lie to the one take myth. I had suspected as much since there was a lingering question in my mind about where the wine in the various bottles had gone before the tasting we see. In some cases they are full, in other half full, in some it looks like there is only a glass left. I thought the crew just gor thirsty before the shot but now I suspect there are a few takes and the spit bucket gets filled a bit more than we suspected.

Hey, we should just all consider ourselves fortunate that Gary loves us enough to NOT give us a camera shot inside the spit bucket!

Nice montage, and a great choice of soundtrack! Can’t wait until next week.
