    Gary –

What type of camera do you shoot the show with?
Picture is much clearer than the first episodes. What did you do different between now and then?

    No,
I am sure that SS Chris killed Gary
with the Revolver in the Kitchen!

    Tim,
I would bet on improved lighting being the difference in quality.

Interesting to see the topic of high-end disappointments. I just walked out of a local wine shop with three bottles of ’97 Rubicon for $90/each (I’m pretty sure my wife does not troll these message boards). A bit steep, surely, but how many of these ’97’s can there still be floating around? I also justify it by telling myself that I’ve paid that much on restaurant wine lists for much lower quality. Right? Who’s with me here?

Now back to my Twenty Rows…

  • I just paid $70 each at the winery for 2002 Rubicon, that was with a club discount. I dont think there is any 1997 rubicon around.

    Gary, Gary, Gary!!

If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him. You pontificate
WAY too much. Remember, it’s only wine and you are just
    one little man!!

Kudos! Sir Brian Woolley Thank you also for all your hard work in the SS. It’s a cool tool!
Brandon M: When do the polls close? No dangling chads, I hope.

To all who know something about Chicago:

My hubby and I will be headed to the Windy City first week in Nov.
Never been there before. So excited to go!

Will try to see King Tut exhibit (1400 S. Lake Shore Drive – Field Museum)
and “Wicked” Oriental Theatre, 24 West Randolph

I don’t know where either of these places are yet, nor do we have tickets, but I do hope they’re
near good hotels and the good Chicago food/wine/blues experience.

You all are so full of information and great advice..I was hoping for some directed my way.
    1) Where to stay
    2) Dining…Of course good wine is the pre-req ( I do have SS Chris’ data)
    3) What to see (If I get my way, we’ll be there Thurs. eve through Sun night)

Any tidbits that might be helpful. I could buy a Frommer’s book, but I figured you all would be more helpful. If I can’t get Wicked tics, we’ll just have more time for wining, dining and music.
    Thanks all
    The Countdown to 100…can’t wait

Julius / Rick E / Rick McQ – Thanks so much for the wine ed. info! (Excuse me for being out of this loop for a few days…i.e. delayed thanks.) Thankfully, I actually have access to some of the finest wine courses offered (!). I truly am interested to know specifically what wine BOOKS Gary (or anyone else) might recommend. I have my favorites but am always interested in recommendations and am interested to know if my favorites rank in those recommendations. (I’ll tell you mine, if you tell me yours.)

    Thanks again!

Wow! I just finished the 04 Bodegas Arrocal Ribera Del Duero. GO BUY A CASE! Right Now. What an incredible mouth feel. Silky through to the finish. Balanced. It was the best $12 bottle I have ever had.

kind of like Vaynernation. has a good flow, nice one Sue. I just opened La Forge Merlot, tastes “mediciny” and “bitter”. I think I’ll move on to something else.

Okay, it’s not quite a Chinon but here’s a ’00 Ch de Fesles Anjou Rouge VV which is seriously green (maybe even slightly corked?) but really not bad with pizza. Most interesting, but I liked the Baumard red better.

Denise – I found these two books to be informative and well written:

Oz Clarke’s New Essential Wine Book
Wine Style: Using Your Senses to Explore and Enjoy Wine by Mary Ewing-Mulligan

I also have a copy and find valuable the Jancis Robinson Oxford Companion to Wine. It’s like having a dictionary on your shelf, a good “go-to” book.

On an entertaining note, I found the following two books worthwhile:

Bacchus and Me: Adventures in the Wine Cellar by Jay McInerney
The Accidental Connoisseur: An Irreverent Journey Through the Wine World by Lawrence Osborne

BrandonM, you have a very talented cousin if she owns the Farm House Inn. Fantastic restaurant and the wine list is excellent. Prices reasonable, too.

Looking forward to the end result of the voting.

    AND CAN’T WAIT UNTIL #100!!!

  • Thanks Paul…yes, Cathy and her brother do a wonderful job!
They have been in a wine family for years and years!

They are selling their Pinot grapes to Red Car this year….can’t wait.

Susan #207 Dont worry its not my fault the voices made me do it, doesent everyone hear the voices

One book I liked was…. “Great Wine Made Simple: Straight Talk from a Master Sommelier” by Andrea Robinson, it gave me a good knoledge base to start from.

not having #100 posted yet is costing me more work time this week than if it would of posted already, as I am checking every hour or two for #100
