Gary, Thanks for the free shipping. Purchased some Thanksgiving wines and Christmas gifts. (If I can keep myself from them that long.)Liz V, very nice to meet you. Are you as jazzed by the Jets and wines as Gary?

Tony…I stock up on wines I know I like, but I am now trying to find different wines I like as well. I have been buying more and more mixed cases as of late, but I am also thinking about stocking up on the Massena Eleventh Hour…it is so DAMN good. Did you get any?

BTW…I loved the pictures of your wine collection. I am going to do the same, even though I haven’t got around to it.

Gary…in all seriousness..thanks a ton for the free shipping, it makes picking wine that much more fun….excellent….I will root for the Jets any time, as long as it does not interfere in any way with my Rams!

And being from Northern California, and having to deal with their fans, I LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing the 49ers and Raiders sucking as bad as they do. For some reason it never gets old!

Ok after the third replay of the episode I finally figured it out you have to actually watch it! I made my wife listen to it twiceand she is now stammering around the house mumbling Butterflies and unicorns rocks to opening flowers but she always stops to laugh at the Jets 5-7 Super Bowl wins statement.

OK You dirty dog Gary slick trick but my four cases are on the way on your dime! Though I a pretty sure I am losing out in the end!

Hey, thinking on a comment Gary Danko made in an interview with WS (”I never see a reason to drink the same wine twice, because there are so many incredible wines being produced all over the world.”), I have a question for everybody:

    1. Do you tend to buy lots of bottles of wines that you find that you like or,
    2. Do you tend to buy lots of different wines, always trying to find a new great wine or,
    3. Do you strike a balance between the two.

Me, I’m a mostly #2 kind of guy. I always want to try something new. I was at a wine bar this weekend, talking to the waiter about wines. He started in on Italian wines, and I suddenly realized that I had absolutely no clue about Italian wines. Bordeaux, the Rhone and California I can hold my own on, but Italy and Spain are black holes. So I’m always looking to expand my horizons (to the chagrin of my checkbook).

That said, there are a few wines that are either just so good or so good for the price that I like having them around as a safe fallback.

What about you? Do you stock up on wines you know you like, or do you like to continually experiment?

Top 5 in recent memory – Only the Arrowood Chard would make the Top 5 of year for me. I have been in a slump. Last bottle I had to dump. Picked up a chepo Italian Chianti for $4.99 in bargain bin and it was so acidic and “raw” that it was undrinkable. Cork was fine, smell was o.k., but I would have rather had a $4 bottle of Gallo than this one… Sucks!! I am huge on trying to find a Sub $10 bottle that I love to death and then go back and snag a couple cases. I guess the last 3 this month have bombed on me and I will have to keep looking for “my” affordable house favorite.

Gary – QOD was cut off – How about this as a new Suddo QOD. What is your “go-to” / “house” wine AKA OLD STANDBY that you always have several bottles on hand??? Mine is BV Rutherford… This is my go to…

    1. 2002 Arrowood Chard
    2. 2003 Cakebread Cab
    3. 2003 Deboeuf Julineas Flower Label
    4. 2000 Ch. Meyney
    5. 2005 Ayler Kupp Riesling Spat.

    2004 Rubicon Captain’s Reserve Syrah
2000 Beringer Third Century Cabernet Sauvignon – Howell Mountain
2003 Ritchie Creek Pinot Noir – Spring Mountain
2001 Wolf Blass South Australia Shiraz

Those are probably the last 4 wines I enjoyed. Anyway nice show Gary. Congrats to your Jets. Anyway…Gary, you ever gonna get to that show about wines made from organically grown grapes or biodynamic vineyards?

OH MY GOD…Did I say root for the Jets?!!? Noticed I mistyped, in true Freudian fashion, ROUT for the Jets. I am not that confident in the Lions that I’m calling for a rout, but I will still hold out for the Lions second victory of the season in the Meadowlands.

Thanks Gary, thanks a good episode and the shipping code. I’m going to put in for my first purchase from WL.

Last five wines I’ve really enjoyed.

    Mas de Guiot Cab/Syrah 2003
    Mas de Guiot Cab/Merlot 2003
    Saintsbury Pinot Noir Carneros 2003
    Yalumba LateHartvest Viognier 2003
    Brown Estate Zinfandel 2003

I noticed the connection of the shipping code and your beloved Jets. I look forward to more shipping when the Lions win on Sunday. Will you hold it against me because I live in DC but rout for the Jets? In other words, will you call foul on free shipping because I don’t live in Michigan? It doesn’t really matter. I just can’t wait for the banter building up to the game this week, and the episode next Monday for wines that pair well with humble pie. :D
