Great episode as always GV. I am happy your Jets were able to hold off the Dolphins this weekend but things won’t be as easy when the Bears come to down and beat down on them. :o ) I hope you guys are watching the greatest comeback in the history of MNF. Chicago Bears 24-23 miracle comeback win. Unreal!!!!!

Anyway, the 4 wines that I have been enjoying lately are:

    2003 Lucky Country (Australian shiraz/cab)
    2001 Delorimier Mosaic (CA meritage)
    2000 Tomaiolo Chianti Classico Riserva
2004 Abandon of Sonoma (CA Chardonnay)

    GO BEARS!!!!

    QOTD:
2003 Penfolds Thomas Hyland Shiraz $10(nice spice, pepper licorice)
2005 Davinci Chianti $10 (a nicely balanced wine, nothing remarkable but good)
1999 Uvaguilera Aguilera Palomero $40 (a nice, refined wine)
2001 Eaglepoint Ranch Syrah $14 (I liked this best of all for the money)

QOD– the last 4 favorite wines:

    2003 Achaval Ferrer Quimera
    2002 Justin Isosceles
    2003 Forman Cab
    2004 Lis Neris Pinot Grigio

Can’t wait to try the Chat Haut Gardere and the Clio that are new additions to the cellar. Had tasted the El Nido at the Super Tasting and that was OUTSTANDING! but out of my price range to enter the cellar.

Tony, I am also like your number 2 person in that i like to sample many different wines. In fact, I am often wandering the racks at WL to leave with a bottle or 2, or place on hold for pickup a wine that got a Vaynernod from the night before, as opposed to buying cases of the same wine. If I do find one in particular that are heads above the others, I will by a couple of bottle to store for special occasions when I can introduce those wines that are “perfect for me” to others.

Everyone, enjoy the Jets victory and our victory as well. Cheers! and thank you Gary.

    Go Giants!!!!

my last five favorites are as followed, 1986 Cos d’Estournel,Martinelli Jackass, Turley Zin, Quimera( is there a better 25 dollar wine than that?) and the 99 Cims De Porrera. That was besides the great wines i tasted at the Super Tasting.

Tony…how good is that Guigal CdP 2001 after about 2 hours in the decanter? YUMMY!
And to top it off…you can buy it for around $35 and sell it on WineBid for $45! Not to bad huh?

BrandonM…everyone knew you would have the Eleventh Hour on your list. How did you like the fights this last weekend? I missed them due to another engagement.
    QOD…
    Best five lately…
    1. 2000 Château Henye Tokaji Aszueszencia
    2. 2001 Elderton Shiraz Command
    3. 2001 Cigaral Syrah Pago del Ama
    4. 1999 Sawyer Cellars Bradford Meritage
    5. Barrel tasting at Sawyer cellars.

All in no particular order ;)

Already placed my order for a mixed case of wine…free shipping of course!!!
Thanks Gary and thank you Tuna fisherman!

Tony…I’m a stocker but also an adventurer. I have bought a lot of mixed cases lately. I have run out of cooler space and need to build some more racks so I have toned down a bit over the last couple of weeks also.
Still waiting on reviews and recommendations for large wine coolers.

You want me to remember the last 5 wines I liked? Are you kidding me? Those 5 bottles probably killed the brain cells meant to remember them…

Great episode Gary. I felt bad for the Pinot at the end. You have made me very intrigued by these slections. i wish my store carried that chianti, sounds awesome. I don’t think we have anything from this episode. Have you ever tried Gaudium Rioja? That’s a popular one we sell as far as our pricier Spanish wines. I am really excitd about the Beaujolais Nouveau. Got any plans for that and with the show? I bet you could come up with something really fun. We are getting 80 cases at my shop and expecting to sell very quick. On an end note, I just tried the Kendall Jackson 2005 Pinot and did not have expectations at all, but I gotta say it was wonderful, had an awesome nose, was one of those wines that took me over an hour, maybe 90 minutes to drink one glass because I cherished the nose colour and taste so much. It was a wow, KJ – who woulda thought? And this might sound crazy, but it reminded me of a pinot noir from VIRGINIA I got a glass of at the last wine festival I went to and they have this really interesting nose and flavour that I really enjoy that is way different fom Cali, Oregon and Burgandy. The wine world shocks us all the time, I love it. Oh and just wanted to ask if you heard of 2004 Coteaux du Languedoc Les Hauts de la Brune? – 90 points Wine Spectator, We sold 30 cases in 2 weeks and under $10, what a steal! All of at the shop loved and have been raving about for the past month. Tell me you know it.

Oooohh!!!Nooooooo!!! I’m so sad about your review of the Mahoney!!!! You killed it!! Did you really have to take it off the table, man?!?! I enjoyed that wine many times this past summer and still even have a few bottles left (they just won’t be the same now). I guess it’s a real comfort wine for me…the aroma throws me back to bike rides through Napa Valley during the crush. Please try it again, Gary!! Maybe with some of your favorite cheese?

Did everyone know that LizV was the VaynerBOSS? (admit it Gary..she’s in charge)

I don’t think that anyone can deny that they are the ultimate VaynerPowerCouple.

    And I thought that DedeStan & I had a chance… :-)

    Gary,

I have noticed that your Family Firm is not big on wine auctions, as opposed to your NY friends, the Zuchy’s (sp err intentional).

Why don’t you host one in Monmouth Co.? The “Garage Sale” sale.

Shawn “Rutgers Love is a Battle”Field

PS Thanks for the free shipping, but don’t tell my wife.

Last 4 wines that were out of this world. I finally located some Armand Rousseau in NYC.:

Jean Marc Bouley Les Fremmiers (Pommard) 2002
Armand Rousseau Clos de la Roche 2002
    Meo-Camuzet Clos de Vougeot 2002
    Chateau Langoa-Barton 2001

Excellent Episode, the Chateau Haut-Gardere is a steal at the price, but I liked the Chateau Sansonnet 2001 a little better at this point.

    good old ludwig van

    To Tony’s question (comment 18):

I used to buy 3 bottles of everything age-worthy, with the idea of having one now, one in around 5 years, and the last in 10 years (or whatever, based on the drinking window recommendation and tasting notes on CellarTracker).

I quickly filled up my 200-bottle custom made cellar credenza, bought another 100-or-so bottle Danby wine fridge and have pretty much filled that also. So, I’m changing my philosophy a little from necessity.

Now I usually buy two bottles of each. There’s a ton of wine out there to try, but I figure if I drink a bottle and love it, it would be a downer to not have at least one back up!

    QOD (favorite listed first):
    1. 2002 The Colonial Estate Emigré
    2. 2000 Lewelling Cabernet Sauvignon
    3. 2002 Ross Andrew Winery Cabernet Sauvignon
    4. 1999 Beringer Vineyards Merlot Private Reserve Bancroft Ranch.

Good episode, Gary. You were jacked! Thanks for the code.

Congrats to all you Jets fans!

QOD – 4 best wines I’ve tasted recently: 2002 Maghee (Woodhouse), 2000 Amalthea Cellars Chancellor Reserve, 2001 Glen Eldon Dry Bore Shiraz, 1991 Joseph Phelps Insignia

Thanks muchly (and thanks to the staff for being out of one of my case selections, so I could satisfy my curiosity about the Haut-Gardere). What better way to celebrate it finally being cool enough to ship, with apologies to anyone in Western NY …

Patty – was the Monmousseau a sparkler, or just the regular still Vouvray? I found the regular a few months back and while it was certainly interesting and well worth the rock-bottom price, it came off a lot drier than what I was expecting. I think I used Lavoris mouthwash as a descriptor before, but there was a little of that there as well.

Tony – mixed cases are always more fun. Although I’ve discovered lots of things I’d love to have in quantity (coughCRBcabernetcough), space considerations kind of preclude that and there’s always something else I’d rather try anyway. You may miss, but if you hit with something new, there’s no comparison.

Pinot Grigio – there are lots of great Pinot Grigios! There’s Vermentino, there’s Grillo, there’s Inzolia …

QOD – top five of the last few months or so:

‘03 Produttori Langhe Nebbiolo – decanters are your friend! If there’s a Target near you and they’re still clearing out the Bormioli decanters, grab one or more–absolute steal at $10. Wasn’t blown away by the first one, but this time wonderful things happened with a little air.
    ‘95 Tignanello – thanks Dad!
‘03 Petite Rousse – no typo, I ran across an ‘03 locally and it didn’t disappoint, but good lord, 16% alcohol? Who needs port?
‘00 Curtis Crossroads Vineyard Syrah – lush and opulent in its youth, now speaking with a serious French accent. My last one, alas.
‘85 Charles Krug CS – still alive! First time I’ve ever caught cedar in a Cab too, so that was nice.

Now … who are these gentlemen in red and what have they done with the Arizona Cardinals?

    Gary…you’re so generous! Thanks for the free shipping. It’s enticing me to order wines I can’t find in my wine shops. As far as my personal faves, I’m still working on it. Too soon to tell! :}

    Miguelo DiMarco

So is it the last 4 or 5 wines? 4 is easier.

    1) 2003 Michele Chiarlo Barbera D’Asti
    2) 1988 Bertani Recioto della Valpolicella
    3) 2005 Banfi Rosa Regale Brachetto (the girls love it)
    4) NV Le Grotte Reggiano Lambrusco -from TJ’s (girls love this one too – “Wine is the great plier of love” -M. DiMarco)

Someone told me they’re making wine outside of Italia – how obsurd!

–thanks for the comped shipping; send out the Vini!
