qotd: fav between $10-13? not an easy question. Best I can remember would be Marquis de Fonseguille Vacqueyras 2006. I remember being really happy with it for the price I paid.
I’d also be really happy Gary if you tackled a vin jaune episode. One on tasting different charbono’s would be awesome too.

Looking back..This is classic Vay-Ner-Chuk. He is putting down the future shows all right here.

The Toro from Rejadorada is another one that Bubble Brothers have recently tasted and decided to bring in to Ireland. A popular style all right; for something a bit different we’re also importing Otero’s 2004 Prieto Picudo crianza.

QOD: The 2002 Castano Hecula and the 2004 Bodegas Arrocal. Perhaps there is something about Spain…

AnthonyS- I agree with you. It is a young wine that benefits from air. As Gary might say (if he is paying any attention to these comments) it has a lot of “structure”. I think it will drink well for several more years. Pretty exceptional for the price.

Just bustin’ your chops while you’re gone Gary, enjoy Paris.

Dan C., I have had the Lyeth Meritage and feel that it was better after being open for a while. I definitely enjoyed it more the day after opening it.

I am a long time lurker, first time poster! My favorite has to be Bodegas Arrocal. I ordered 6 bottles from WL and only have 1 left! No more to be found anywhere.

Ditto here on the Arrocal Duero at Gary’s recommendation though I like many Beujolais that fall in the sam price point. Celebrated big victories last night with 1989 Dunn Howell Mountain. Still a huge wine but so nice.

Gary- #123 was a perfect, quick episode with two very different wines. Thanks.

QOD: $10-$13 wine is the 2002 Lyeth Meritage Red. Classy for the price ($11), silky finish, and the cool bottle makes a nice party gift.

Michael P, I agree. The Lunada Cab/Merlot was a great value wine. I went through mine in no time this summer. I think I had 6 or 8 bottles.

Rick the Model?! Sounds like you’ve got a not-so-secret admirer Gary!

QOD: Sierra Cantabria Crianza-$12 Spanish. Can’t go wrong. (won’t find good California wines in that price range).

Even better, the Meerendal Shiraz for 8 bucks that Gary reviewed on WLTV earlier this year. Problem is, it is nowhere to be found! Get some more Gary!

    QOD:
    Oreana “?” Chardonnay – $9.99, and
    Oreana “?” Red Blend – $9.99.

Bought a case of each last year direct from the winery. $6 shipping – coast to coast. Very solid cheap, everyday wine.

The Seghesio Sonoma Zin ‘02 for $12 from WL of course. Always good prices with great flavor from this vineyard. Avoir et bon chance Gary.

The Trittico is an outstanding wine. Have had 3 bottles & will def buy more.

QOD: The Lunada Cab/Merlot (out of stock..PLEASE get more :) ) & Hawks Crest Cab

Miguelo – Yes, I am sad to say it is true. In the $10-$13 range I would have to go with my standby BV NAPA CAB. Of course I prefer the Rutherford Cab (typically both deliver as much as the Georges De Latour as I think that recent vintages of this have been lack luster). The BV NAPA CAB would only get an 85 from me when drank young, but the late 90’s that I am drinking now have really come around and I have been giving 88-89 on… Just love the dusty fruit!!!

Now if the QOD was $20-25 the game changes and I am stuck in Bordeaux for the next $30 bucks – $20-$50!!!

Definately the Domaine “La Garrigue” Cuvee Romaine. Great restrained fruit, terroir (WHAT!), and spice (yeah baby!). 9.99. Oh sorry Miguelo…don’t have one in the $10-13 price range. One that’s a little above, well in NYC at least…Bodegas Vizcarra “Roble” $14-15(in NYC) great restrained fruit (again, but a little more than the La Garrigue), nice chocolate notes as well. Amazing nose! Floral, fruity, and a hint of vanilla. My go-to gift wine. WL ought to carry it.

Hey….who says I’m not a man??? I’m the only kind of man that counts…a WO-MAN. :) yowza! Great epidsode for the price range Gary!

And JASON R. – say it ain’t so! BV? The best between $10-$13? Are we talking Cab or Zin?

In the California “non-chalant” classification, wouldn’t you rather have a Ravenswood “County Series” or a Kenwood?

Great brief episode. One can never have too many high-QPR recommendations and I like it when Italy and Spain get their due appreciation.

Some people missed the detail of the Q.O.D.: what’s the best wine between $10 and $13.
But I agree with SLICK NICK that Torres Sangre de Toro is all killer, no filler and the little plastic bull dangling from the foil is pretty cool. A wine for WL to consider carrying!

My choice in the price range is easily Masi Campofiorin -the first Ripasso- because of the Amarone “experience” it delivers for a fraction of the cost. It’s generally priced under $15, but can be found for $11 or $12, so it’s my answer and vote for election day.

My two favorites from opposite ends are:
    1 Josef Leitz Dragonstone – a riesling
    2. Villa Marie from New Zealand – a Sauvignon Blanc
