A big day for us here at winelibrary.com. Some very big announcements are made in todays episode. Today Gary tastes a shiraz, a gigondas both highly requested by WLTV viewers to be tasted. He also tastes two other reds to round out the episode.

    As the father of four, oldest being 26, we never popped a bottle upon the fact of expecting, rather we purchased a special wine and put it away. We have had some remarkable tasting discoverys with each child turning 21 as we tasted each wine. Our youngest is not yet 18, but we have enjoyed each one discovering the world of fine wines and have found it to be one of the more rewarding experiences of parenthood. Happy birthday.     Gary, Happy Birthday!
    It’s been a long time since I had children, But now I’m a grandparent. To celebrate my granddaugher’s birth last March, we opened a 1996 Opus One with my son and daughter-in-law. It was like drinking velvet (without the fuzz). We had been holding it for a long time, and this was the best time to try it.

    Good luck against the Bears. The Jets will need all the luck they can get.

    Krug Vintage was the wine always popped for celebration. Still is though Billecart Salmon runs a close second for that.

    Ok, thats enough….seriously though, congrats to Gary on your anniversary and birthday and Eric for him becoming a daddy.

    QOD: I don’t have any children nor am I even married yet, but when I do find out that I will be a daddy I will open my bottle of 2001 Phelps Insignia….and I will also go out and buy a bottle of whatever champagne Gary says is the best he’s ever had…I really don’t know much about champagne as I do with wine, but whatever Gary recommends as the best possible champagne to buy is what I will get. I will spare no expense….because that would probably be one of the greatest days of my life.

    Couple questions for the Master….

    1. What wine will you be drinking tonight for your Anniversay, we would all love to know which one and how you liked it!

    2. I know you are a huge Spanish wine fan and with the Clio being such a WLTV wine, I thought you could give us your thoughts and more information about the importer, Jorge Ordonez? It seems that almost any wine imported by him are great wines and it might be good for all the Vaniacs to check out more of his offerings. Altos de Luzon, Juan Gil, Codice, Garnacha de Fuego to name a few. Maybe you could do an all Jorge Ordonez episode?

    3. Are you still offering the free shipping to the team who beats the Jets? Going to be a good game next week and I would love to have another reason to be rooting for the Bears..:)

    Thank you for Free.winelibrary. Got some ordered. I already had some Clio ordered; I’m soooo glad you liked it.

    QOD: We weren’t wine drinkers when I was pregnant with any of our kids; we didn’t really have the money for “extras”. My husband popped a cap off some cheap beer, looked at me (when I told him about number four), and said, “Where the hell are we going to put this one?” He’s such a romantic. :) But everything worked out, we worked really hard, and now I am able to enjoy some really good wines. BTW, now all four are in college, and if tuition keeps going up, we might have to revert to cheap beer. But at least I’ll have a little wine stash built up!

    Gary, Happy Happy BD. If I were popping a SPECIAL cork, it would be a 1995 Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Had one about 2-plus years ago and it was yummy!

    Just wait till you’re married 30 years….3 kids (27,25,23)….all I pop at night is my bottle of Zocor! Enjoy it now and appreciate it because it goes by pretty damn quick!

    ‘Ham Sandwich - no cheese’ and I was sitting here eating a ham sandwich with no cheese.

    Congrats Gary, and congrats Eric.
    I was not drinking a lot of wine when my kids were born (or when I found out my wife was pregnant), but my two kids were born in 1997 and 2001, and I am a cali cab fan- I hope to open bottles on each of their wedding days.
    Gary, PLEASE try the 2003 Finca Sandoval. I had the 2002 at Charleston in Baltimore and thought it was excellent. The first three bottles of wine I ever bought from WL was the 02 Finca Sandoval(92 RP). I also bought 3 bottles of the 2003 from WL, and that is 93 RP. I think they both are excellent wines, exceptional QPR, and wonder why it does not sell out (unless you have many, many cases).
    Great idea with free.winelibrary.com- I plan to partake immediately!

    Long time watcher first time poster! Congrats on drawing out another long time lurker! The free shipping deal def worked out for me as im going to have a few people over who aren’t “in the know” wine drinkers, but the high alc. will def. be appealing. I really enjoy the show gary, but what really makes it special is your pasion and enthusiasm. Keep it up buddy.

    Will anyone be going to the PJ Grand Tasting on Wednesday evening? Ill be there with my best friend who is also a budding wino.

    Gary, Happy Anniversary. We hope you enjoyed Cru. We had a great time there last time in New York. Also, the only Clio we can find locally is the 2002. Do you know how that compared to the 2003 or the 2004?
