You made me laugh out loud for about 5 minutes (drove my officemates crazy!) with that stick gag.

    Gary,

Hmmm, sophomore year in college maybe. Funny, that’s also when I started to become popular. Just found your site today, love the show.

Gary, I have attended Steven Tanzer led tasting, Michael Broadbent and Robert Parker. You’re more fun to watch and I learn just as much as listening to them. Keep it up. Glad you tasted the Pillar Box. It has been a favorite since the first time we opened it here and my friends keep asking for more and it’s cheap!!!

    Gary,
Martha may be a bit too austere for you, but I do think she knows fun when it is near. And you, dude, are fun! I am a little astonished that here in California, on the Central Coast, I look to you, out in NJ, for a sober yet playful take on wine. I work in a quality winery and yet I am gleefully ‘borrowing’ from your efforts, the marketing tips and general philosophy that I think punctuates a disabling seriousness that interfers with the enjoyment of wine. Go toe to toe with Parker: there is nothing but an upside.
Broadway Joe, byb, was a childhood hero of mine.
    Great work

Gary, sorry for the late response. I’ll tell you, you certainly make wine fun for the rest of us. Your episode reminded me of the words my father said to me when I told him I would like to play football for a living because it was “fun”. He said,” It’s no longer a game when you start getting paid for it”. That was followed by ” it’s a lucky man who gets paid for a job he loves to do”. All along, being a Vascular Surgeon, I thought I had the best job in the world, now I think that anything better would be absolutely Vay-Ner-Chuck!!

Great episode Gary, been a long time since I wrote the last time but here are again.
QOD I have never really cared for what other people think of me, what they see is what they get, if they don’t like it, that is too bad.

    Excellent episode once again, GV.

QOD: Sadly, throughout my ELHI school days, I usually cared what other people thought. Annoyingly to most of my peers, I was an “honors” student and geeks weren’t exactly the most popular students around to many people. That all changed in college. It was about that time that I read a book by the brillian physicist Richard Feynman entitled, “What Do You Care What Other People Think?” (I know, ridiculously geeky reference!) A great book. It has nothing to do with science. It is about living your life to the fullest.

in a superficial way, I quit caring in college when I was around more people with similar interests, etc….

But really, do we every really quit caring what people think? That’s how we all are able to live together…..

One example of being able to think for myself inrespect to wine is how I bought wine. I used to try to get as many things off the WS top 100 that I could afford, which at the time was maybe a half dozen or so. (I bought one this year and was underwhelmed to say the least) Now I rely on my own pallate and people who I know. Its more fun to find a wine that is twice as fun for half the price that flies under the press radar.

Hey GV, how about another episode of great wines we’ve never heard of, or at least not very much about.

    Gary,
What a surprise! I had a busy weekend and didn’t get to view Friday’s WLTV episode until a little while ago. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that you tasted my request! I’m glad I got my order in early, since it sold out. I can’t wait to give it a try! Thanks again.

Gary! Sauternes with the House?! Need I remind you, you also offered Champagne (albiet a “Grower”) as the perfect “first date” wine? I thought you break rules! I thought you lived on the edge! You’ve become predictable, man. I’m beginning to read you like a cheap novel! Work with me, man, work with me. Just kidding…you crack me up as always. Thanks for answering another one of my questions on the air! (For the record…Denise’s questions answered = 2, HLS’s questions answered = 1. I’m winning, chump.)

    I love this show.

    Hi Gary,

Another great episode as always. Love your STICK, although I would not have been as open about pulling it out on WLTV.

Still watching everyday from Hong Kong.

I used to think way too much about it.. now I am enjoying life!

It is funny that this is the QOD, because I was just talking tonight to a friend about this very topic! Right after my divorce, I immediately quit caring what others thought or had to say to me about who I should hook up with. I had dutifully tried it my family’s way, and had failed miserably. Right out of college I married someone with had the requisite college degree, who was of my same racial background, who was supposedly “going places,” yada, yada, yada….my family joyfully thought we were a good “match” and encouraged me to follow the matrimonial track and, being young and dumb, I am sad to say that I was stupid enough to fall for the hype.
By following the expectations of others instead of my own mind, however, I ended up with just what I deserved: An absolute cad who I ended up wasting 6 years of my life with! Stupid me! On a happier note, though, 10 years later I am sooooo happy now, living a full and rich life, surrounded by plenty of positive people who I can cut from my acquaintance if they ever end up getting crazy on me. Yeah, the family does still try to lay that guilt trip on from time to time, but now when they get on my last nerve and won’t shut the * up about what I should be doing with my life, I just go on the counter-attack about THEIR lives, and the skirmish ends easily. If that doesn’t work, well, there’s always wine to help me to forget! :-)

During college (second year) I gave up. I gave the world the finger! I then went into my own computer business.. The rest is history.

Just found WLTV, watched 10 episodes in a row and counting.

I haven’t completely stopped caring, and I probably never will.

I simply try to continually improve my response(s) to both positive and negative opinions.

Gary, I am fairly new to watching your video blog and new to the wine world as well. However, I was vote #348 for your blog because you keep it REAL. Do me a favor, please do some more Chianti’s. Thanks!
