Great episode. I love Grenache and have it often. Mostly from Spain and Southern Rhone.

QOTD: I already have a bottle of Perrier Juet Grand Brut, which I got on sale and it has very nice packaging (metal tube) and a half bottle of Veuve Clicot as a backup.

I am still hoping to buy a grower champagne (real recoltant stuff) or a sparkler from Loire or Alsace-those I find quite nice too.

If I do get the real stuff on time, the Juet and Clicot will end up as gifts.

I knew that Grenache was the most planted red grape in Spain (Airen being the most planted, red or white), but when did Grenache overtake Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon as the most planted grape worldwide?

Don’t no one be disin’ da Vikes, don’t ya know. It’s gonna be a battle royale dis comin’ Sunday. We may be generous and let ya have 20 yards rushin’. But den again, maybe not.

As for me, a bottle of Ms. Gloria Ferrer awaits.

GV- nice surprise to see the episode when I got home from work, after you posted yesterday no show- thx

New Years? I’ll be drinking the Dogfish Fort, like Eric above, and the Nino Franco Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Rustico; then it depends on what we eat, probably rib eye, so maybe ‘02 Torbreck The Steading or Francis Tannahill Mason Dixon Syrah

The wife and I are going big this New Years, we will be opening one of the following: ‘96 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame or ‘88 Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill. Mmmmmmmmmm…..

nice, i love your videos man, i’ve been checking out this and WL every single day since i discovered them about a week ago. Just bummed that the “tuesday tasting” video will not be up until thursday. I just got my 6 wines today and was hoping to do this wed. but guess it will have to wait till january (the next time i’ll have enough time to do it.). Also i wont be drinking anything this new years. I’ll be at work watching wine library tv, pissed off wishing i was off work drinking.

    Gary,

You are a rock. I was not expecting to see you tonight.

QOD: I will be popping whatever Champagne wins the CHAMPAGNE SHOW-DOWN (or sounds the best to my taste), when you pit grower champagnes vs. big-name brands in a blind tasting (hint hint).

Have a good trip in Atlanta!

great tidbit about grenache being the most planted grape…did not know that. my homeroom sophmore year was in the small engine repair class!!! QOTD: not sure yet, not really a champagne drinker. been dieing to pop open another 2002 Match Butterdragon cabernet…

QOTD: Buying a case of Mumm Napa Blanc de Noirs. Yes, it pales in comparison to the wonderful choices I see here, but I will have a houseful of drunk friends, so I had to show some restraint. I gotta admit though, I love the stuff…

    hey Gary, cool episode!

QOTD: for New Year’s, I have a Frank Family Blanc de Noirs sparkling that I’ve had tucked way… I am way more of a red fan than sparkling so I’m hoping to have something new and nice to welcome in the new year.

Been Lurkin for a while now… actually a long time! Hahaha…

What I’m drinking for New Years? Since I’ll be out partying up, it probably won’t be sparkly. It’ll probably some kind of liquor.

Btw, great job with the Grenache. I love grenache and I’m very happy you did an episode on it.

I’ve been lurking since Thanksgiving. Can’t get enough so I started watching old episodes.
I’m a relative newbie to the wine world and I appreciated that little nugget of information about the Grenache grape.

Thanks for doing Grenache Gary, even if your selections were towards a style that doesn’t do the grape justice. Next time throw in a Rayas and watch it trash all the other wines.

I like to consider myself a modified lurker…
G.V., I hope our beloved JETS win next week, I cant take seeing you like this. A low energy, almost depressed sight. I’m so upset. It kills me to see you like this. I should drive down to NJ and slap you a couple of times before your flight. I hope you get a little Vaynitude adjustment before you go on air. I love you anyway. Bummed or not, your still the best.
    QOTD….Why Prosecco of course.

  19. December 11, 2006

    Dale Cruse

QOTD: I’m saving a whole bunch of money and popping open some Prosecco on New Year’s Eve! If I do break down and buy champagne, it’s typically Veuve Clicquot.

Nice show. But who cares about Grenache! Just kidding! I’m actually a big fan. Most I’ve had are from Spain though.

QOD = Grower Bubbley!! I was hoping you could help me with the the selections next time I’m in.

Gary — We’re going to need you to cite a source for your “stat of the day” today. What about Airén?

QOD: well, it’s the Drappier since it was on free shipping! Good episode

ML, you must be Canadian eh? Gary, love the sweater! Was that a Fathers Day present? Not a big Grenache fan. QOTD for Gary…. I’ve noticed you like to empty your empty glass into the spit bucket before tasting, Whats that all about??? :-)

Gary, that was an awesome catch by the left fielder. I went to see him play many times back in the day when Dusty Baker was the 3rd base coach and Roger Craig was the manager for the Giants and not a running back for the 49ers. I was a huge fan of that team. Once, I even saw a fan barehand catch a ball off his bat while holding a baby in his other hand. Amazing!
