So you’re obviously digging the ‘03 Sansonnet, and previously dug the ‘01. So is there anything about either that makes you solidly prefer one over the other, or is it just a question of mood?

    Hello Gary,
Great episode and one to share!
I have been lurking and buying from WineLibrary for some time. First time poster.
Thank you for this great way to taste along with you, with friends, and family.
I ordered this sampler as soon as you posted and have been looking forward to sharing the moment.
This episode is another example of why I recommend WineLibraryTV.com to all of my wine friends.
You make wine and wine tasting a “fun/enjoyable” event.
I do not always agree with you (or Parker for that matter) but isn’t that what it is all about?
    Happy Holidays!
    Thanks.

Doesn’t sound like this pelican is smiling at all.
Gary pumps enthusiasm into the world of wines.
He points out value oriented wines and wines for less than
20 bones, and even less than 10 bucks! And he wants us all
to enjoy wines in a demystified way. He wants us to try new things
and think about wine out of the box. And he is helping to educate us
all for free via the video-blog. Don’t offend the loyal Vayniac community
by taking pot shots at Gary. I mean really. Can’t you see he’s the real deal?
You know what? Everybody has their own tastes. You like Merlot, I like Shiraz.
No problem. Just don’t rant on the host, know what I mean??

PJ I think you’re right about the phins!!

Christmas day Gary. Hate to say it but the Fins are looking strong and could ruin Christmas for a lot of Jets fans. Great episode. I appreciate your talking about the old versus new world wines and the fruit bomb. Haven’t seen an old world video blog yet. Maybe you have one in your future? Oh, and the winetaste tv lady is about as lame as Robin Leach trying to impersonate Mohamed Ali.

    Gary,
when you were decribing the Starry Night i thought you were decribing my ex-wife at first.;) granted i have not watched as many episodes as other Vaniacs but i don’t believe you are giving a sales pitch at all. i’ve found the episodes VERY informative and honest. keep up the great work!
QOTD for friday: what is one of the oddest tastes/smells you have gotten from a wine?

Smiling Pelican and all other nonbelievers!! Do we question Derek Jeter’s passion cause he makes millions?? Or Michael Jordan, Dan Marino and the list could go on and on!! The guy is just trying to educate us on this wine game. Like I said in the forum he’s “bringing it to the masses”. If you really feel like you’re being used like a pawn or being manipulated what does that say about yourself?? Lighten up and watch the show. People just love to hate!! Human nature I guess. The problem is that many on this board wish that were them looking into that camera everyday, so now you look at any excuse to bash the guy. He’s living the dream! Stop hateing!

RE: pepper allergies; I went through pepper spray training today at the prison where I now work. The training indicated that .0005% of the population is allergic to pepper spray, so I suspect this translates well to peppers as a whole. And yes, I did get sprayed.

Oh, BTW. Before I buy one of those ugly WLTV shirts, GARY has to wear one on a WLTV episode. Then, and only then, will I order one. Also, if people didn’t like the wines Gary rates highly, they wouldn’t buy them! Wine is all about repeat business. If someone doesn’t like someone’s recommendations, they won’t keep coming back. Gary is very honest about the wines he recommends, and I value his opinion. Even if I don’t agree. I hope I got through this post after drinking a bottle of wine without making any spelling mistakes. :) Keep it real Gary.

Nice poster in the background ;)

QOTD – what is your favorite movie? and what wine would you drink while watching it?

Gary, Tomorrow’s ? of the day:
What bottle of wine would you give as a gift to someone else, but you wouldn’t buy for yourself?

It’s great to see how much this stuff is taking off. Thanks to Gary I now have more credit card debt than I really wanted to have.

Well Gary after the last episode you have lured me out. Yes I comment on the forums quite a bit, but as you said “you are a lurker until you post in the comments section” so here I am.

Your QOTD for tomorrow should be what Brandon M suggested. I have found that the wines I choose on my own are never as good as the wines that you suggest.

    Thanks for all you do!

    Smiling Pelican

Look folks … first off, I hadn’t noticed the massive thread on the forum about this. Didn’t mean to beat the proverbial dead horse with my comment.

It’s a sincere compliment to have what you’re doing be on national tv. That’s killer!

The thing is I only know the Wine Library TV, Gary, not the real person Gary. I only have that to go on and after watching the CNBC piece I was left wondering if the Wine Library TV Gary was a character, a creation for the internet or for sales or whatever.

It sounds like from those of you that know Gary that he’s the real deal and that’s great! Those of you that know Gary personally can make that distinction, but us viewing via the internet can’t.

I don’t take my comments back in any way, though, because it’s essential to figure out what’s real and what’s a creation. Hell, that’s what education is all about. Wine Library TV is about education, is it not?

I needed some convincing and I got some. Let’s get back to tasting wine. :)

Great stuff, also good showing in Atlanta.

    I like your style.

  18. December 14, 2006

    Brandon M

Joe…I understand…and I am more suprised by Pelican.
Here’s the thing though…I know Gary’s blowin up, and this was a big deal to do, so why would anyone take the wind out of his sails like that? Also, if you know Gary, and you know what he’s about, why not take the positive out of it? I just refuse, at this time, to back anyone that questions him like that, and frankly, I really am tired of hearing about it!

  19. December 14, 2006

    Susan

    Brandon M and Ken,
I agree with you. You did a great job at explaining the
    real deal at WLTV!!
    Thanks!
    :)

Wow! No PAAAZZZZZZZZ on any of the six pack…I almost like it better when you pan at least one wine…I guess it is that whole Simon-American Idol-syndrome. I’ll be trying the Sansonnet this weekend.
QOTD-I also agree with Brandon M.
Thanks for the link to winetastetv-informative but very dry…it remined me of a something I had to watch for a college class or a cheesy corporate training video.
Speaking of corporate, I manage a well known store and could also sell anything to the right person, it doesn’t mean that I do, or that money is all I care about. The one press interview that I did was totally butchered once it was published. This blog is informative and FUN, it is not about sell, sell, sell. If it was why would Gary pan so many famous and expensive wines? How many times has he lowered his rating of a wine because he felt the price was too high?

    Gary,

I have been lurking here for about a week know, and I just have to say: I think that you are amazing, what you do for wine library TV is revolutionary, and I really appreciate it. I really do.

That said I am now out in the open. I have been part of the corkd.com online wine community since just after it’s inception, and have found WLtv from there. I have been referring my friends to this site, and sincerely hope that wine library TV continues to broadcast, grow and prosper. Gary, thank you.

    Best wishes,
    Joel

    Brandon:
My post wasn’t that I thought Gary or WLTV is not real. I have know and done business with Gary since 1999. I do believe WLTV is a great educational service. My point was that the CNBC interview did not reflect that purpose and I was left feeling it was jadded. My point was with it being not that complimentary, why should Gary post it and direct WLTV viewers to it?
    Joe

    Smiling Pelican and Joe (Kinda)

Are you kidding me? So let me get this straight, the WHOLE interview is about Gary demystifying wine and that’s the squabble you have with the interview? I believe that Gary could sell anything, what is wrong with an honest answer? But his love is wine, so that’s what he sells. To me, your picking fly sh%$ out of the pepper. Man…so many things are wrong with your rant! “Are you just pushing us on used cars or whatever’s handy” TERRIBLE. Would Cal Worthington tell you that a Chevy Cobalt is a piece of crap…PAZZZZZZZ, even though it is? That’s what your missing here. How many WLTV epsiodes have you watched? Go back and watch some early stuff where Gary explains he’s pissing people off. Talk to Ian Doring and see how Gary’s business is ran and the type of customer service they provide. Then remember that everything at WLTV is FREE.

Maybe I’m a little too serious about this, but I for one am getting sick of all the STUPID questions about Gary’s credibility….it’s just getting so damn old!

    Ken

Hey, Smiling Pelican, chill. Your post is more than a bit disrespectful of the much needed consumer service Gary provides. Perhaps it is his common decency or playfulness that seems too good to be true. Perhaps it is his singular lack of guile. Hard to say why you might suspect that some ulterior motivation might be driving him. He is the real deal: a very knowledgeable wine guy overflowing with the desire to share what he has learned. I hope that I can learn just one half of what he knows of wine from his extensive business and tasting experience, and drawn from his personal relationships with winemakers all over the world. Take it from me, and I’m in the wine business, Gary is the best and the brightest of the new generation of wine enthusiasts.
