Thank you! Portugal wines do not seem to get enough praise or even notes. I’d love to see you do more shows on them.

Wine! I forgot about the wine! Great episode once again. I actually have a couple bottles of a 2003 Meandro in my cellar that I believe WS scored 90 points. Now I can’t wait to try it.

OK, posting the score prediction would be pointless since everyone knows that the Jets won. Boy, those Monday Night Football announcers sure didn’t give much love to Chad Pennington. But he gets the last laugh with another win. The weird thing is, despite the fact that I don’t give a hoot about the Jets, I found myself rooting for them. I figure if the Jets make it to the Superbowl, Gary will probably be very generous and give all Vayniacs free shipping for a week! :-)

Santa read my letter! I received my official Vayniac T-shirt for Christmas! Other gifts cost more, but none made me more happy than my V-shirt.

Hope you found your heart’s desire under the tree on Christmas morning. Happy holidays to all.

Hey Gary, congratulations on a great win by the Jets! Oakland (Jokeland) should not be a problem. Now that the Steelers are out (what a bizarre season they had!) I have a new team to root for. I hope you had a great Christmas and have a great New Years. Go Jets and go Gary!

Great episode today! I’m just getting into wine, and I’m trying as many different ones as I possibly can, seeing what’s out there, and enjoying my favorites because they taste good to me….no matter how they’re rated by the ‘pros’. Wine–like any food or beverage we consume–is so personal and subjective. Ratings are helpful, sort of like general guidelines, but how can we all be expected to like the same thing? I agree that you have to go with your own personal taste. It only makes sense.

Thanks for another great episode, Gary, and I wish happy and safe holidays to everybody.

Oh, and has the Vaynerwife ever been a guest on the show? I’d like to see Liz!

So I understand that the numbers today happened to be a prediction, but what about all the other days? What are you counting down to? Episode 400ish, apparently….

    Wine-O:

From one restaurant operator to another, beware there are pitfalls to having your suppliers print your list for you. Seems like today things change too rapidly regarding vintage etc. When printing is so cheap, why have a supplier do it?

Gary is right on the money, you want YOUR STYLE AND YOUR TASTE to come through on the list.

My money is on a Vaynerbaby as well, Joe P.
Many people don’t believe in making an “official” announcement until the first trimester is over, which would be a feasible explanation for the mystery.
Gary better watch himself though, because if she is anything like me, his wife is going to give him MAJOR hell over the beard!!

Gary, you were oh so coy about avoiding mention of your apparent countdown numbers. I believe a few of us matched the starting number with a possible baby V. Any truth to that? If not that, then it’s a real stumper for the moment. Thanks for the show! jp

Good to see the questions being anwered again. Folowing up on Eugene, I think it would always be better to pair, “Taste lots of different wines” with “Trust your own palate”, since our palates change and adventure keeps everything fresh and interesting. Happy, healthy and joyous holidays to all, except the Fins (they only get healthy and joyous).

Gary, I wanted to respond to Grasshopper’s question and your comments relative to the Spreadsheet.

Please take a look at the following thread for my response.

    SS Chris

Gary, I wanted do respond directly to Grasshopper’s questions as well as your comments about the spreadsheet (SS). A few weeks ago there was a THREAD created by Brooklyn Paul (BP). The topic was whether or not (there was a POLL set up) I deserved my own Moniker…this is different than the screen name…it is the designation under the Avitar’s on the Forum (i.e. Wine Newbie, Oenophile, Wine Connoisseur, etc., etc.). This had already been done for MarcT and for Jason Hicks (this is an important point…it’s not as if it had never been done before, in which case, I would expect some people to be against anyone getting there own Moniker (Hi. Julius ;-D…luv ya buddy).

BP was good enough to start this THREAD saying, “As we all know, our buddy SS Chris created the famous WLTV spread sheet. And he still provides updates for it today. I’d say he deserves consideration for a special title.”

As you can see, it was, specifically about expressing appreciation for the SS and the work that went into creating it; as well as the continued efforts to keep it updated. I believed it would be a relative no brainer as NO Vayniac puts in as much time as I do for something that I get nothing for (GV will confirm this). Well, to both my and BP’s surprise, the votes over the first few days were decidedly against me (it has since swung marginally the other way). Poor BP felt a need to apologize to me for creating the thread. And let me be clear that this is not about the special name at this point…I don’t care about that. I do care about what I do being appreciated however. Part of what I took from this was that perhaps the SS wasn’t as valuable as I had thought and, at the very least, both the SS and I weren’t feeling much if any appreciation (yes, the SS actually DOES have feelings)

So, it was at this point that I discontinued updating the web SS. I just wasn’t feeling much love from the VAYNIACS….all’s I need is just a little LOVE for the ALL of the time I put in (or I just may need to take my bat, ball, SS and go home). Gary, perhaps you could weigh in on this and maybe prod the Vayniacs a little here…they need a little VaynerPROD. (that’s for you MichaelP)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS and HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR to everyone (except those who voted “NO”) :-D :-D

Here’s the link to the THREAD mentioned”

Sorry Gary, Dolphs 20 Jets 7

It’s for your own good. You can’t grow a beard. Beards and wine do not mix. Name one prominent figure in the wine world with a big bushy beard. Name one. You would be gross and vile on WLTV slurping wines through your beard. Not to mention how having all those flavors and aromas of yesterday’s lox and whatnot mixed in will totally screw up your palate. No one will trust you anymore. No one will watch. Actually, Dolphs 31 Jets 3. That’s even better. The chastening experience will prompt you to never ever again miss a day of shaving.

The only two guys I’ve met in the wine business with beards are Stuart and Charlie Smith of Smith-Madrone on Spring Mt. in Napa. Great guys, great beards, great wines. But they don’t eat lox. Oh, and Ed Sbragia of Beringer has a beard. Can’t think of any others. Maybe a good QOD– people in the “wine world” with beards…hmmmm
