I found wltv link on wine.woot – saw Gary’s video on Monkey Prize – I’ve been hooked every since.

I’ve email all my co-workers, my friends and family wltv link.

I’m just sorry I wasn’t here from the very beginning. I’m going to a wine tasting at the end of the month locally here on Long Island, and I’m hyped. :)

Gary, best show ever. What a great idea for a show, heh heh.

I agree, for this price range, I’d rather have a Tres Picos, Castano Solanero, or a Woot Monkey Prize, but I don’t always have those on hand. I usually have a couple of bottles of the Columbia Crest around. I agree it’s a little heavy on the oak, but it’s pretty decent as a daily dinner wine.

Dan C, thanks for the suggestions. I’ve tried some of them (I really didn’t like the Di Majo), but I’ll definitely look for some of the others. I guess I’m hesitant to try random $10 wines, but maybe I’m better off risking getting some losers than defaulting to a mediocre fallback.

QOTD: I was referred here by Woot Wine. I referred one friend that I know is into wine, but I don’t know that many other people who are really “into” wine. I have some other friends who drink wine, but they’re happy with Kendall Jackson chard.

QOTD – I heard about WLTV from Wine Spectator and have reffered two of my other wino friends who are serial lurkers….you know who you are Jon and Matt. Throw Gary a bone!!!!
Great episode….I know that I should put this in the forums but here is an idea for a show. How about tasting some wines from the Finger Lake region. I have travelled through there and found that they have some nice wines.

Great episode, Gary. You’ve been on a roll lately. Solid, well-informed, very smart efforts recently. The Ridge episode was excellent. Of today’s work I especially enjoyed the shout out to Cote Rotie and Hermitage.

I was introduced to WineLibrary TV by the MSNBC special on MSN homepage. I have told everyone I know that drinks wine. However, that is my problem. I know 6 people who also enjoy wine. Maybe that has something to do with being from the midwest (Iowa) and living in Hawai’i (5 months). I love the idea from yesterday though about getting a tasting group together, especially to offset some of the cost of trying some higher end wines. Right now I need to find everyday wines, so I often look to other countries (Australia, Chile, New Zealand, Argentina, South Africa) as they seem to be the best bargains. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode!

    Large Format Fever

Columbia Crest Two Vines, roughly 7ish dollars. It is great for 7 bucks. But please decant…for a long time!!! Definatly not as much oak as Grand Estate and a bit one dimensional, but for 7 dollars is pretty good wine. Consider it for parties!

Gary, when in Providence, you want to visit the Italian section known as Federal Hill. The main drag is Atwells Avenue. I’m there about once a month. My favorite restaurant is Cassarino’s. Check it out.

The Hype Machine is a nice mp3 blog aggregator, but there are lots of good individual music blogs. E-mail me if you’d like some recommendations.

Ok show since I try to avoid those garbage wines since I have tried them years ago. Never again but I thought the SA ringer would do well. Now, let’s do an entire show on SA wines?

QOD: How did I find out about WLTV? The same way Eric finds out about sites. I surf alot, found your site, ordered some wines and they came the next day which is always shocking how you do that and then started watching your reviews.

Who have I referred? All of my wine geeks at work and my foodie group.

And yes, if i see a great site, I tell everyone I know who I think may find it interesting.

Go Colts and good luck to the Jets. Spank Tom Brady.

Wall Street Journal article brought me – and I love it. I have tried to bring everyone I know who loves wine (that’s not many in Pittsburgh), but I guess they have been too busy.

I brought a DC wine store owner – and I bet he gets hooked.

QOTD: I found WLTV via cork’d and referred my tasting buddies to WLTV.

Great episode, and thanks for the Canadian shout-out!

Love this episode. It’s nice to get the Wine Guy’s take on these high volume wines. Great idea and one I’d like to see again in the future.

    Good luck against the Pats.

    Gary,
Ah yes, the dilemna. As the palate improves, the cost goes up! Since I have been drinking better wine, it is hard to go back to cheaper ones that are not as good. Your restaurant comment is perfect. Unless you have a place with a great wine list, it’s tough to take. It’s like watching sports on regular vs HDTV. You can sit through the regular, but it JUST AIN’T QUITE THERE! Same with the better wines.

I for one am greatful that you introduce us to wines like God’s Hill Shiraz and Tumbling Tractors Zin. These are fabulous wines at reasonable (not cheap, but fair) prices. I also like the fact that you show us the high end stuff, so we can buy one or two, hold them and enjoy for special occassions. WLTV has nice balance, and a long, clean finish!!!

QOD: I saw an article in the WSJ on wine sites, and compared 5 or 6. Your prices and selection was the best. Then I got hooked on WLTV, and now my wife says “You ordered more wine???”

As far as referrals go, I have a group of friends who enjoy fine food and beverages. We regularly get together and share a fine single malt scotch. I think we will be doing some wines next time we gather, and I have passed on the WLTV link to them all. The episode that got me hooked was the Amarone episode, since it is my absolute favorite wine. Case in point: on Christmas eve I delivered a bottle of wine to one of these friends, and we started talking about Champagne. He mentioned he has a connection to get Pol Roget for $30. I came home and checked WL: $24. Immediately sent him the link.

Hey, there’s another show in the future: Amarone redux!!! Pair it with some of that sharp provolone and some Pecorino Romano! Throw in some roasted red peppers on Chiabatta bread, and you have a PARTY!!

    Keep up the good work.

    Gary,

Thanks for tasting my request of the Wolf Trap and THANKS for stocking it. I’ve been a huge fan of Boekenhoutskloof (pronounced boo – ken – hoots – kloof by the way)wines for a long time but they are hard to find. Almost everything I’ve tasted from them has been excellent. I think I’ve hounded you or your staff for about a year now to get more than just Chocolate Block so I’m thrilled that you’ve added another from this winery. Add more. They are a great producer.

OK, now I’m off to go buy some quick before your rave review leaves me empty handed.

QOD: I found the site on my own and have turned on about 20 co-workers and 10 friends and family to the site. I even wore my Vayniac shirt on NYE. Is that hard core or what?

QOTD – 1. Got the link while surfing wine websites ( I think it was corkd.com, that I never returned to). 2. Showed WLTV to my father, an experienced surfer and amateur wine taster.

On another subject, I pay twice the price for these wines at my liquor store (SAQ in Quebec, Canada – a state monopole on fine alcohols). That’s pretty frustrating. Somehow though European Wines and more expensive ones are closer to the price you would pay anywhere in the US. The Robert Mondavi one was 19$ CAN (ouch! not gonna try that one I think).

How I wish I could buy from WLTV!

    QOTD:
I came across it while on the WL site which I learned via an article in the STAR LEDGER about 3 years ago.

Surprise, surprise….but I tell just about EVERYBODY (friends, family, co-workers, strangers on the street). Seriously have told about 150 people…at least

oh….and I tend to mention that spreadsheet thing from time to time

Tangaroa- There is a ton of good under $10, and certainly under $15, wine out there. It’s just that very little of it is from the U.S. Gary has recommended a whole bunch of under $15 wines that he really likes and I think all he is saying is that you should try some because they are so much better than BV, etc…I am a dedicated buyer of under $15 wines. Try Spain (Artazuri, Las Rocas, Mas Que Vinos Ercavio Roble, Olivares Altos de la Hoya, Castano Hecula, Castano Solanera, Capcanes Mas Donis Barrica, Juan Gil); Italy (Farnese Casale Vecchio, Di Majo Norante Sangiovese, Masciarelli Montepulciano, Lucarelli Primitivo, Cantele Primitivo Salerno); Australia (Pillar Box Red, Trevor Jones Virgin Chardonnay, Milton Park Shiraz, Penfolds Koonunga Hill, Water Wheel, Kangarilla Road);also, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, S. Africa, Languedoc Roussillon, France. I mean, if you like BV, Rosemount and Columbia Crest, drink and enjoy, but if you don’t, try some others at the same price. It’s fun!

    Cheers, Dan C.
