Gary, I have to agree with Michael P (post 108), I am worried about your palate that you could find columbia Crest and the this other swill even close to the RIdge Lynton Springs (87 points) which is “REAL” wine. Maybe it is the new small glass hiding the flaws of these wines. Maybe that is the trick. If any of us are forced to drink swill like this we should to so the smallest orange Juice glass we have – – perhaps the oak monster can be subdued.

Gary, you mayu have to go back to the BIG glass so we can compare 2007 ratings to 2006.

  • Hey Gary…great episode, sorta. I agree with some of the folks’ posts I’ve been reading: There’s much more interesting 5-15$ wines to try besides these wines that are made in the 100 of thousand’s of cases. And somebody mentioned in a post that out of soooo many bottles produced, there are going to be a lot of variations from bottle to bottle. I’m not a snob, but I’m just not interested in chain grocery store or chain restaruant wine.

Secondly: That glass. I thought the purpose of the stem is to keep the warmth of your hand away from the tempurature of the wine (assuming you’re tasting wine at ideal temps). And when you’re down to the last taste, you can’t really get a good swirl and really experience the nose. I’ll try out one of those glasses if I get a chance though, but I’m not going to go buy one.

QOD: 1) My friend Danny showed me your show when I was over there for dinner. I think it was around episode 40 or 50. I’ve been hooked ever sense. But, I’m not a huge fan of computer’s, so I just watch while I’m on my lunch break at work, and that means I always catch the previous day’s episode. Part 2) I’ve referred a few people. My friends Dale and Lars always watch and I’ve told other folks, but I don’t know if I bothered. Part 3) Not applicable. But, I’m not one of those people (like you) who shouts it out to the world. I just tell people who I think would really get it. I like your sense of humor and the fact that you looove wine, but you’re not a wine snob.

OK…again, I’m gonna root for your Jets against the Patriots (c’mon, they’ve got 3 Super Bowl championships after losing to both the Bears and the Packers in previous SB’s…eww, did I just give props to the Packers?!?!?!?) So ya, I have no urge to see the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Every other team would be a nice mix though. Bears/Jets would be great.

OK…see you later, take care man. GO BEARS!!!!

Looks like I can buy a featured wine. Stopping by later to pick up my very own 2005 Boekenhoutskloof Wolf Trap. Awesome.

QOTD: I heard about Wine Library (the physical store) from my dad. He knows your father (my dad got your dad interested in chickens. I know. I’m sorry for that). He convinced me to purchase my wines at Wine Library instead of an unnamed store in Madison. From there I discovered the web site and Wine Library TV.

  • Found WLTV via Digg.com/Podcasts when i searched for “wine” you are the number 1 wine podcast!

Enjoy the energy of the show and the sheer volume of episodes! Also as a techie im drawn to your cool website. Comments on episodes, forums, and ask section are all features that are a great way for a new viewer to check out what established viewers think of a show and have helped me become a regular viewer to WLTV. Im kind of suprised that there are so few diggs for WLTV. Searching this page i found no one mentioned Digg!

You should get everyone to Digg your podcast! (You can digg a podcast or individual episodes.)
A direct link to the show’s main page on digg – http://digg.com/podcasts/Wine_Library_TV

Get this show above a sad 59 diggs…

I would have just watched your show on digg, but then you started waving your arms and pointing to links that digg doesnt show! WTF? Ok, guess i gotta go check out the webpage…. Oh cool layout! Much better, Gary doesnt seem as crazy now!

QOD. I was a WL customer for several years. Before you on WLTV and the new store. Ordered occasionally and then saw the link to WLTV once while ordering. From there on it was history.

#2. Anyone and everyone that I can. Several already in the Bay Area of CA, Chicago area as well as the President of the company I work for. I was even able to get her to visit the store(I took her there) just before Christmas. We both droped some “bones”. Even at the Gourmet Shop.

Keep up the good work and I may no longer “lurk”.

A friend of mine told me about Wine Library years ago, and I saw the billboard on Rt 78 (I think it was 78), but never stopped in. Then a different friend told me about the Manor Wine Tasting a few months ago, and that is how it all started for me! I went online a few days later, saw Wine Library TV and was hooked! Wish I listened to my other friend years ago.

  • WOW!
    What TVWL social terroir!

I want to thank all of you for reading my posting.
    I am truly flattered!

Now, the quote I gave at the top of my posting was word-for-word
what GARY said after sampling the first three of these wines. It’s
not my quote. It was rather strange that right after Gary said this,
I paused the “tape” and composed my comment. Then, I came back
and listened to the final review…

And guess what Gary went and did.

Yup, he sang all sorts of praises on this cheap-but-good bacon
flavored $7 Boekenhoutskloof Wolf Trap! Geeeeez….

Needless to say: I went to THREE wine stores in the Twin Cities
last night and looked for this wine. No dice. And our stupid
Minnesota prude state has effectively threatened TVWL from shipping
here – so that option is out also…

Whatever happened to our Libertarian laws which prevent the
government from opening our mail without a warrant?

    Anyway…

    1. Thank you Brandon for your reply.

    2. Dan C.: Thank you so much for taking the time to recommend
    all those cheap-but-goods.

    3. Katonah Dave… OK

    4. Chito, thanks for the flame.

    5. Matt, get back to work.

    6. And Gary, thank you – you KNOW I’m your bud.

    Many interesting restaurants in Providence:
Al Forno is a ***** … not sure the best value, but very well known
Mill Tavern on South Main I tried about 4 months ago…food was very good and reasonable wine list
Federal Hill has several Italian restaurants if interested .. some have a fairly extensive wine list.
If into French .. try Pot au feu … traditional French food and wine.

I saw some suggestions for Cafe Nuovo and others as well … all of these are either in walking distance or fairly short cab ride from downtown Providence.

Need more suggestions … send me an email … good luck on Sunday! (Although I have to admit ..that free shipping code came in very handy the last time 🙂

    (1) Grappa Restaurant in Providence.
    (2) Learned of WLTV via e-mail from your master site.
    (3) Made about 20 recommendations, e.g. my kids, my sister, wine-drinking friends.
    (4) Feedback from these folks is that they would watch more regularly, but recently some of your shows have been a little long. A friendly suggestion is that you keep them about 10 to 12 minutes to hook people as regulars. Otherwise you’ll wear them out and they will go away.

Two things: I like seeing you use the tasting glass and have been considering getting one. You’ve convinced me.

QOD 1 – I’ve been shopping at WL for a long time and buy on-line. Saw the link, watched, got hooked.
QOD 2 – Lots of people, can’t count the number. Some watch and lurk, some don’t. Haven’t seen any I recognize in the comments or forums.

First and foremost let’s Go Jets! Have a great time in New England. Hope to see pain on Belichick’s face when he has to shake Mangini’s hand in defeat.

QOD 1 – It was featured on Dan Cedarholm’s blog simplebits. And I also saw the ad on Cork’d.
QOD 2 – My wife and a few of my friends whom we get together with and taste different wines.

Gary- I referred myself while looking for a wine on Google, stumbling upon your site inadvertently. Then, my wife Kathy who was a lurker over my shoulder for a few episodes wrote you about the Bob Parker incident at Fieldstone Winery as you may recall? I then referred my son Adrian whose question you recently answered on WLTV regarding flavors and their origins in wine. We are all VaynerROOTING for your continued success with the show as in your life itself…

This show needed the Rex Goliath. You can’t beat ‘His Royal Majesty’ for 7 bucks. I’m waiting for their Shiraz to be widely distributed – already good press.

I found out about Wine Library and then Wine Library TV (via the Bertani Amarone ‘watch the video for this product’ link) through ‘WineZap.com’. You had the best price, but the video encouraged me to buy the Allegrini instead (I had tasted a different vintage of the Bertani already) and here ever since, my self-described ‘Dickhead’ friend.

Answer for my QOD: Biggest GV Dickhead moment: “[I’m awarding the prize to the best question: ‘How many times have you picked your nose today’]”. It was then that I knew who I was dealing with. . .

. . . but you never put me to sleep like those other wine blogs

I have become a desciple for Gary.I usually tell customers and sales people at liquor stores to check out WLTV. You’d think I’m on commission; I guess I am, I did win a T-shirt!!
