    Gary -
I introduced my brother-in-law and his wife to WLTV with this show over the weekend (OK I showed my brother in law the snow episode first) and they were instantly hooked! They are big Stillers fans (they’re from Pittsburgh) so they liked the football, but you were in top form in so many ways on this one. The Simpsons cup, the plastic nose gotcha, the riesling basher bashing, they just loved it!

    Gary,

I am finally catching up on all the episodes from around the Holidays/New Year. We’ll have to trade some stories on music and the Simpsons.

I am enjoying this approach to watching WLTV. I basically will be watching 25 episodes in the next 7 days!!!

Thanks and looking forward to seeing you soon.

Love the Ercavio!!! Bought it after the show and had it last night. My first Tempranillo (?) but was very impressed. Keep the bargains coming.

QOD: Hmmm. Well, there’s the traditional hamburger which for me is a 1/3 of a pound, medium rare, with lettuce, sauteed mushrooms, steak sauce, and onions on a whole wheat bun. But then my favorite non-traditional burger is from an Emeril Lagasse recipe and it is ground lamb with some wonderful spices grilled medium-rare, with some pepper-Jack cheese, chopped fresh rosemary, and some sour creme on an onion bun. MMMMM!!

Hamburger (extra lean beef); grilled with chili powder on each side and topped with spicy chili-mayo and onions below the meat and avocado and mushrooms above. Sliced sourdough bread grilled with vegetable oil spray sprayed on the outer sides and [melted] freshly-shredded asiago cheese on the innner sides of the slices. Don’t forget the HRM RG Cabernet chaser.

Wish it’d gone better for you this weekend GV. This the way I like to see you.

As for the QOTD, Black and Blue burger baby. Blackened with a ton of pepper and then slathered with good ass blue cheese. Onions and Tomatoes also are key. Then, maybe, just maybe some good mustard. I’m going to eat that right now!

BTW Riesling is awesome! Just not any from California (that I have tried so far).

Wow, cup is already up to $310. Gary, at this rate you might have to throw in a bottle of Chat Le Pin, too.

QOD: French Burger (Ichabod’s, Sea Bright, NJ) – covered with blue cheese, served au jus for dipping.

Riesling is one of the 6 noble grapes for a reason – it makes the best white wine in the world. Period. Dont believe it – try something 10 or 15 years old from the MOsel and be awakened.

    Burgers medium to medium rare.

    Simpsons cup….nice

Jets….too bad, but better than my Skins.

QOTD: Blue cheese burger, medium, toasted bun, nothing else.

First off, sorry about the Jet’s.

I really like to make my hamburgers with about 70% lean ground beef (be careful you don’t watch close, you can burn them up). There is something about those fatty burgers that tastes so good. A little salt, a little pepper, chopped onions and jalapeños on top, and cheese melted over-the-top at the very end. This must be served on sesame seed buns, that have been warmed on the grill. Dill pickles, lettuce, and tomato with some of my homemade spicy mustard! Served that with a little bit of cold German potato salad and a nice red zin, one with a little bit higher alcohol content, and you’re going to put your mouth and your stomach in heaven.

MMMMM Hamburgers. QOTD: Medium Rare with Lots of Bacon, Swiss, Jalapenos, Sauteed Onions, Mushrooms and BBQ. Also occasionally Fry up some Tomato slices to use instead of buns. Keep up the great work Gary ~ Cheers ~ Jtk

Whataburgers are all over Mississppi and Alabama.

mmmm….burgers. This past summer I got a really good buy on a brisket. Got with the butcher and he ground that baby down to 10 lbs of burger for a cook out. He just shook his head, said something about how fatty it would be then went to putting that brisket to hamburger. gotta tell you…tasty. didn’t have any wine with it (suggestions?) but we did have some ice cold beers.

Is it even possible to get a Whataburger outside Texas anymore?

  22. January 8, 2007

    Eric B

I like to mix some “Butt-Rub” dry rub into the meat before throwing the burger on the grill. MMM.

a couple of review ideas, but not to go with burgers (I will be trying some of your recommended Zins for that) … low cost whites of the no-chard variety

    wines I have tried:
[19120] Dry Creek Chenin Blanc (great pair with hummous and stuffed grape leaves)
    [4183] Hugel Gewurztraminer

    and ones I haven’t:
    [2994] Hugel Gentil
    [16397] Smoking Loon Viognier
    [7090] Chateau St Michelle Eroica

You crack me up bro. Sorry about your Jets though…although, I’m kinda glad they didn’t win because you said that you would have announced the wines for a group tasting “in the nude” had they won. Pheeeww!!! Dodged a bullet there.

Mmmm…hamburgers…medium rare, mustard, lettuce, raw onion, tomato, cheddar cheese, no ketchup. Ketchup makes them taste sweet. And please…none of those “gourmet-fancy-burgers” where some great chef puts crap like foi-gras or something ridiculous like that on it. Burgers are for simply a back yard bar-b-que, not a 5 star restaurant. Thee best fast food burgers: What-a-Burger. There’s none of those in Chicago (or the midwest for that matter), but MAN are they good. Plus their sign looks like the Weezer logo. For the midwest, Culvers is pretty dang good.

OK…see you later, and again, sorry about your Jets. GO BEARS!!!
    T

    PS: nice Simpson’s cup.
