Wines tasted in this episode:

Petite Sirah is it the same as Syrah? Is Petite Sirah bigger or smaller then Syrah? Is Petite Sirah the same as Durif? All these questions and more will be answered by a sad Gary Vaynerchuk.

    HEy buddy,

Sorry about the JETS loss…..You should have kept the beard going anyway.

QOD: When someone is sad…the best drink is Hemlock..lol

When I’m sad I drink gin and tonics and lots of them. If I’m out of tonic water I drink nice WA cab. Love the Abeja, Owen Roe, Woodward Canyon. If that’s not enough I’ll even reach for St. Michelle if I have to. It’s the wine equivalent of wrapping myself up in a big wool blanket on the couch.

Gary, sorry about the game…I felt your pain when they lost!

Snap out of it dude, it’s only a game. BTW…like the “standard” glass

    Gary Somberchuk is back!

Sorry about the Jets loss. I don’t want to repeat all the silver linings. It sucks that their run is over.

QOD: The wine cure for sadness= Finger Lakes rieslings for me. They put me in a good place and make me feel all happy.

Cheer up Gary! At least you won’t have any Giant’s fans giving to you!!!

Wow, hopefully you cheer up this week because this episode was definitely a Vayner-PAZZZZZZZZZZZ in itself.

QOD – Does Jim Beam count?

Gary I almost want to cry for you… shames me to think that I said all those nasty things about The Beard (which WAS horrible) and the pathetic little tasting glass that you pulled out last week (it WAS dorky). And I am glad to see that both are gone.

The Quixote Petite Sirah is a very nice wine. The winery itself is a work of art, designed by the Austrian architect Hundertwasser. Vayniacs should check out the Quixote website and the photos of the place. I think there was something in the architect’s contract that the winery could not accept visitors until X years after his death (go figure), and I think Quixote will start accepting visitors this year.

Wine to drink when sad? An inexpensive young Chianti– a sundrenched and happy wine– with simple Tuscan fare like tagliatelle with some olive oil and shaved parmesan.

Dude, please tell me that was at least partly an act. I’m a little worried about you if you are really taking the loss that badly. It’s funny, though, because this is what the early shows were like. In those early shows, you didn’t do the shouting and the funny antics. Were you always sad back then?

QOTD: When I’m sad, I like to do Jello shots. There’s always room for Jello, no matter how sad you are!

I think a five star cognac is probably your best bet. Thank goddness half the green teams won-I’m still smiling.

Wow Gary…I’m surprised that you even did a show today. Some words come to mind: morose, sullen, austere, melancholy. Though not a Jets fan, I feel for you and other disheartened fans today. Saying it was a good run just doesn’t seem to provide much comfort at this point.

When I’m sad, a nice Rhone blend proves to be a good, comforting friend.

    Hang in there buddy!

Hang in there, Gary! Thanks for toughin’ out an episode today…

Take solace in the fact that the Jets delivered much more than any of us thought they would during the regular season and are a team on a rise. It’s painful right now, but after they add a RB and some depth on defense, we’ll be looking for a big 2007-2008 season!

Gary- So Sorry about the Jets. My brother-in-law is way down too. Your team is on the upswing and will be back strong, just like you will.

QOD- Something big and over the top like Turley Zin, Torbreck Shiraz and this year maybe a Mollydooker. Reminds me that a lot of people are having big fun making wine.

Oh, my God…I feel like I just attended a funeral. I can’t stand the ‘Subdued Gary’…..it’s so sad. I want to cry….Cheer up Bud, like Scarlett said, “tomorrow is another day.”

In this frame of mind, drink whatever you get your hands on……..sniff

    Beyond sad.

    Episode # 161 – The Depressed Episode.

Business as usual. Not a hint of a smile. “Let’s move on.”

Suggestion: forget comparing Petit Sirahs — how about Prozac vs. Zoloft?!

See that, Gar’? Even when you’re down, you bring us up!

awww po’ po’ Gary! I don’t really care about football but I can still feel your pain. My advice is not to drink at all lest you sink into a deeper pit of despair.

Again….sorry for your loss man. Hopefully our exicted Gary will return tommorow
As for what I like to drink when I am sad….it must be something spectacular. Pop a 1990 Latour or a 98 Grange or something like that…try to not be happy when drinking that!

    Dan

    Somne kind of sad Gary!

When I am sad, I like to hold the bottle by the neck… (You didn’t even comment on my joke!)

Champagne when I’m happy, champagne when I’m sad.

And when I am in no sort of mood at all, I like to drink Champagne.

Cheer up, at least you have hope for NEXT year!

    Gary:

When I’m really sad it just doesn’t matter. That’s the only time I go for Quantity over Quality. The Jets will be tough next year, just be glad Herm Edwards and Bubby Brister are both gone!

A dead-pan G V. Nice to know you havn’t lost your since of humor. If feel you pain. #1 AND #2 down for the count. Nuthin like a little korn likker to raise your spirits (or make you go blind) when you sad.

    Buehler….Buehler….Buehler

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the… Anyone? Anyone?… the Great Depression, passed the… Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?… raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. “Voodoo” economics.

Gary, Keep your head up only 4 months until the Jets get to confuse or excite you at the draft. I like Michael Turgy Champaigne when I’m sad. I am also a big fan of the Jacob Franklin Chavez-Leeds Petite Syrah.

I know it is a day of mourning, but it helps to talk about it! When I am sad,I like to drink a lively zin with high alcohol content[Rosenblum-Richard Sauret or Rockpile]. Don’t watch replays or listen to any analysis of the game for at least a week. Rent some comedies or go to the caribbean for a week without any TV’s.

I like to drink something bubbly and fun like Rustico Prosecco when I am sad. Bubbles are happy!

    Hi Gary,

The loss sucks, worst cause it started close till the end o’f the 3rd. Btw, why the Jets spit bucket. If i wanted to spit on a team it would be the Patriots. ;)

Maybe next season will bring more promise.
