Wines tasted in this episode:

Petite Sirah is it the same as Syrah? Is Petite Sirah bigger or smaller then Syrah? Is Petite Sirah the same as Durif? All these questions and more will be answered by a sad Gary Vaynerchuk.

Sorry then to you to Joe, at least your Jets were there.

I can’t drink Mondavi Select. It takes so much energy to swallow that stuff.
Columbia Crest is a little better, but still no WEST SIDE STORY! :-)

    Gary,

Talk about mixed feelings. I’m really physched (sp) about the Pats winning and at the same time feel a little sad knowing what you must be going through. If it’s any consolation, I was really impressed by Mangini’s coaching and I get the feeling next years matchups will be tougher for us up here in NE.

QOD: Drink something that reminds you of some good experience.

    Till next season,

    Wine talk only

Oh-mi-gosh! I remember the year, 1969 where your Jets, Mets and maybe Knicks defeated my Colts, Orioles (at the time) and Bullets for all the marbles. And we were hugely favored! Talk about sad. :(

Regarding the QOD and which wine would I drink when I’m sad? I’m going to go with a Pommery Champagne (Apenage) which reminds me of a trip to Reims where the little woman and I had dinner and stayed the night at Les Crayeres (Chateau Boyer). Unbelievable.

Hang in there Gary. As they say, “the Jets did good.”

    Dom

P.S. Go Colts! Beat the convicts.

    Gary,

Your overall demeanor today reminds me of how I felt after Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals in 1994 when I had to watch my New Jersey Devils lose to the Rangers with all the Ranger fans celebrating around me and freakin’ Messier sprouting a halo before my very eyes (you know, the “Matteau!! Matteau!!! Matteau!!!! One more moutain to climb, Mount Vancouver!!!” game).
(Yes, I know you’re probably a Ranger fan, so this memory should bring at least a hint of a smile to your face.)

Well we all know what happened the following year, right!! A Devils Stanley Cup!!! So, write it down, our J-E-T-S will WIN the Super Bowl next year! You heard it here first! Man-genious will bring it home, so cheer up!!

QOD- When THIS depressed, I’m afraid the only thing that might help is a shot (or three) of Patron… you know, sort of like electro-shock therapy for the palate. : )

    Sorry about the Jets.

QOTD: When I’m sad I stay away from wine (depressant + depression = more sad.) I really stay away from 2006 Raiders.

    Mike

When I’m sad( like I was after the horrific loss by Dallas) I like to drink as much Boone’s Farm Apple Blossom wine as I can. I promise you won’t be able to remember why you were sad.

    Mike F.D.N.Y.

P.S. Did you really think they had a chance??

    Jack:)

    Great episode!

Like performance art. Just as I would expect after this weekend.
I know your are sad but revile in how far the Jets came. This is supposed to be a rebuilding year. This bodes well for next year.

QOTD – double scotch, single malt…and repeat until properly titrated…
or else there’s always tequila – I prefer don julio chilled in a shaker,
served up in a martini glass…and repeat until properly titrated.

Sorry about your Jets…now “let’s move on”

    Hilarious Gary,

I loved the dead pan approach. Don’t want to ever see it again but it was great. How did you keep a stright face during that. Great job My only concern is that newbies will see this and think this is the real you.

Sorry for the loss, now quit mourning and bring the VEY – NER – CHUK back.

QOD: I think of some wine that will cheer me up and it would be Alsace rieseling.

Brandon, with Gary’s mood – I recommend Mondavi Select and Columbia Crest!!!!! I like Your Die Hard selection (but he was in such a Theatrical mood today – both literally and figurtively) that I could not help but pull out some Broadway movie. By the way, I was a Jets fan since 7 years old – and I’m down too….but I was down since Gary switched form the Big Playoff Glass to the “tasting glass”. I knew once he switched – My Jets were history!

    Gary,

Sorry about your Jets. Being a Giants’ fan, I feel your pain!

Johnny Walker Black does the trick for me.

Sorry Gare. The Jets played sucky, I know. But suck it up and enjoy that vino! Please? We miss you!

    Gary,
Sorry about the Jets. But way to get back up in the saddle. No hardship can stop WLTV!! I must admit, it was hard to tell if you were just subdued and saddened by your Jets, or if you were putting us on a bit. And it could be worse. Like Sue Z said, you could be Tony Romo. Or Tom Coughlin. He’ll be unemployed soon!

For a sad day i would definitely skip the wine and go straight to Tequila.

At least you are not a Giants fan.

cheer up man the giants suck ass. where did the writing go on the white board?

  18. January 8, 2007

    Sue Z.

I’m having a hard time figuring out who was more sad this weekend……….Gary V or Tony Romo? QOD – go with some bubbly, the bubbles might scrub the bad taste out of your mouth. Sorry about the loss and KAHUNA’s post………..that was brutal!

  19. January 8, 2007

    Brandon M

So Joe…you should drink a BAD wine when you or down, or no wine at all?
If I was TRULY TRULY sad, I would probably pop a great bottle in an “F IT, I DESERVE IT” kind of way.

And please…no West Side Story….watch Die Hard, or Predator, or Boondock Saints!

    :-)

Suck it up you puppy dog eyed, greatest fan, of a loosing team, whiner. There’s always next year. You don’t need to ack like your goldfish died on the same day that your mom took away your blankie. Oh btw your best friend moved away, you are moving next week in the opposite direction, and you were picked last in dodgeball, again. You need a slap up side the head. Get a box of Scout cookies and a glass of milk and a warm comforter, take a nap and get over it. The 24 hours of mourning is over, I didn’t subscribe to RSVP your pity party.

PS: thanks for making my wife and daughter cry, you whiner.

PPS: Thanks for almost doing a Petite Syrah episode, it’s one ov my favorites.

    Rich S

Cheer up Gary. The Jets did WAY better than anyone would have thought they did at the beginning of the season. That in and of itself is a huge compliment.

QOD: Sad = a big, jammy red like a CA zin or a new world Australian shiraz……….

On the upside, being in the dumps has brought out a dozen lurkers in an effort to console you. You may be on to something here…

I drink A-LOT of wine when I’m sad. Cheer up buddy you have a young team. Show was awful by the way. Bordering on unwatchable.

    Gary,

Sorry to hear about your loss dude. I sounded just like you for about two weeks after we had to put my dog down a few years ago. It’ll get better with time.

QOD: I find the hard stuff works best when your feelin down.

    joe

But honestly Gary, you should take this loss hard. And you should apologize to the Jets. I could not help but think that switching from the big PLAYOFF glass to the tasting glass, you jinxed ‘em. WHY did you switch from the Playoff glass RIGHT BEFORE THE PLAYOFFS??????????????? The timing killed me,

    Joe Willie fan since ‘68
