Very nice…And…No sweet wine!!! I have not seen this Epi…
Gary, Every thought of having a “Guest Host” for those times you want to take off???
Don’t worry, no one could replace you, but might be fun to see a guest host every once in a while…

Gary,
I enjoyed this episode with Santiago Achaval of Achaval Ferrer. I did not see this when it originally aired and watched it for the first time today. I will be looking for these wines and hopefully I will like them as I have not been a great fan of Malbec recently. Maybe they will change my mind. Iâ??d like to compare them to some wines from Cahors. Thanks again.

This was indeed a great episode. But Gary, I understand you were already in holiday mood, but that, in NO way, in NO POSSIBLE way forgot THE QUESTION OF THE DAY! Disgrace and a shame! Tsk tsk 😉 …
Enjoy your Piña and see you next week!

The 2003 Quimera is one of the most interesting wines I have ever tasted. Here are my notes from that bottle:
Not sure how I feel about this wine. Beautiful in color. The nose not showing much at first but then opening up to raspberry and other berry scents. Bright berry fruit continues on the palette, which also was quite closed at first but started to open up with time in the glass. The wine is medium bodied with significant acidity. Elegant is a good descriptor. For me there is an interesting tamarind note that I’ve never come across in any wine before. The tannins are fine but also quite noticeable and still dominating the fruit on the finsh. Will re-evaluate tomorrow. It may improve. Second night…Has opened up a bit more, now showing currant and blackberry flavors but still noticeably firm structure and acid. Reminds me somewhat of a Washington State Cab. This wine was very friendly with dinner from Whole Foods consisting of chicken breast stuffed with eggplant, feta and roasted red pepper and a cold pasta dish of smoked mozarella and basil. Lots of fine sediment at the end of the bottle. This is one for the cellar. While it’s enjoyable now, I think it could benefit from a few more years of laying down. Molesworth from Wine Spectator has the drinking window ending at 2008, but I think it extends a few years beyond that.

G-man,
Great rerun. This was your best interview by far. “Silent but deadly?”
2003 quimera was indeed a great wine. I have been through a few bottles, and it definitely benefits from at least 2 hours decanting. When I popped and poured it smelled like burnt wood and had REALLY bitter tannins.
Hope all is well in Naples.
