Yuw. Hadn’t seen this one yet … Nice, and cool to find a wine for 7 bones that delivers. Reminds me of a Chianti I got last year: 2001 Castell’in Villa C. CLassico, € 7 or smth. and really delicious, just couldn’t say anything wrong about it. Perfect, succulent, silky smooth, great balance, fresh, crisp, tobacco, earthy, cherry, … name it, is was all there. In a Sangiovese blind tasting it was also one of the favourites (dunked Frescobaldi and Fonterutolli, isn’t that nice?).

What’s with the bottle of “La Cueva Del Contador” at 11:27 and 12:07 minutes? (10:08 and 10:48 in the original video). Somebody apparently was playing tricks but nobody seemed to have noticed anything. Are there any ghosts in the store?

I haven’t seen this episode yet, so I’m gonna go ahead and reply to the question of that day:

      2003 Achaval-Ferrer Quimera
2003 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Catena Alta
2006 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
      2001 Allegrini Palazzo della Torre
2004 Benton Lane Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
2005 Elk Cove Pinot Gris Willamette Valley

Ok, so I named 6, kill me.

And while I’m at it, the last two wines I had that completely blew me out of my tree each in its own way…

      2002 Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
1998 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau

      Dude

Love, love, love, watching you man - you totally got it going on- wine, brains, experience, honesty, you’re alive, green, herbacious, strawberry, jets, chuck… But, uh, WTF is this 177/108 thing. Can’t help it, I love you man, but this is messed up. There’s a difference between a killer show and a fake one. (FAKE!) Oh and whenever the hostess asks if you have “Reservations” for dinner, say “Yes, but I’ll eat here anyway.”

Gary, You were too vayneramped from the Jets victory and I think it affected your palate on that glorious day. I bought the Coli Senesi. Remarkable? Hardly. Awful? Yes. I don’t think you can even cook with the stuff. Don’t worry, you can’t be perfect all the time. Look forward to your return.

“A beautiful rock of pleasure and flavor” …. you #$%^ing perv.

So here’s my weird tasting note of the day, tasted a two day old very chilled Greco di Tufo today (from Vesevo, decent producer). Absolute nose of grocery store sugary gumballs straight out of the vending machine. Who wooda thunk it.
G-Man come home baby, come home.

I’m an idiot…or at least uninformed…or probably an uninformed idiot. Apologies to Gary and longtime WLTV stalwarts for the occasional redundant question(s) I’ve asked over the past few weeks. With GV gone, I’ve had the chance to go back and read up on such topics as the benefits of decanting, why GV pans some wines they carry, etc. The early episodes have been enlightening…and entertaining…and humbling…. I had no idea so many issues had already been covered.

I should probably go back to lurking for a couple months until I complete my enophilic due diligence and catch up on all past efforts. In the meantime, you’re missed, GV. Hope you’re back soon!

I just figured out what you’re doing… Going on vacation and showing old Jet rah rah episodes to take away the sting of not being in the big game yourself. Well its time you stop sulking and start rooting for the upcoming victory by DA BEARS. I hope you’re watching as the Bears put the spur to the Dolts and revenge your loss. I admit I’d be conflicted if the Jets were playing. I spent 10 years living in NYC during the 80’s rooting for the Jets. But they’re not and I’m a Bear homer. Go figure - two Bear fans in a row. WOW!!!!

      GO BEARS!!!!!

      Gary,
ReRuns are okay, but we all miss the real thing. It’s like waiting for January and the new season of “24″ to start again. Which, by the way, runs with an all new episode each week. So GV, when you are back from vacation, will you promise us 24 straight new episodes. GV–Jack Bauer Both awesome!!! Oh, and a repeat of free shipping will never go without gratitude!

      PS: Go Colts!!!

Alright Gary…way to flaunt this loooong vacation in all of our faces. Will there be a super special Super Bowl episode? Maybe a bottle of an “old school” Bordeaux (for the Bears and their “knock you in your teeth” brand of old school NFL football) against some “hot and flashy” new world wine (for the Colts and their brand of throwing the ball over the place style of football).

OK. See you later. I’m going to continue NOT vacationing now.

Some Grrrreat questions asked in #108. And by the way, I rate that Colli Senesi Chinati a 32. It was terrible. I got two bottles and both were awful. Sour baby diaper nose, sour thin mid palate, and a terrible finish. UUUGGHHH. But I love the show! jp

Hum, something familiar about red & china.

Every time I see an old bottle of wine being opened, it reminds me of when Jacques-Yves Cousteau opened up what I believe to be the oldest bottle of wine consumed by a human(s), or one of the oldest. Does anyone rem where he found it and how old it was? I know he did a dive many decades ago, and found a Greek vessel which was in fact a wine freighter.
