My guess is GV has the phones in to hear what the mic picks up, like, uh, a rock star. They use the phones to hear the output from the mixing desk and to filter out other noise. GV might be trying to filter out the birds……..

Gotta love the Thomas Muster call-out! That dude is such a stud, taken out of the sport due to a terrible accident but worked his way back in and was a master on the clay courts! I remember seeing pictures of him standin on the court, with one leg proped up on a table while he hit forehands for practice and wishing that I was that tough. However, favorite tennis player……..Michael Chang.

    good episode.

Still a virgin—never had a GV. QOTD…Arthur Ashe, for poise and professionalism

Great show Gary! I have never tried a Groovy wine before, but now I will. London is a great town and the beer ain’t bad either, so check it out.

Johnny Mac hands down. Being a fellow lefty tennis player myself, I was inspired as a kid to pick up the game and I still play competitively.

    GO TARHEELS!

Another interesting and entertaining episode to learn from. (That tasting glass looked bigger than Gary’s head…..scary!)

For your one year anniversary, go back and re-taste the same wines you did originally. Don’t watch the shows, don’t look at your notes. Just taste.

Great Episode Gary. You bust out the best descriptions lol. I dont know if i am considered long time but if i am i would adopt a lurker lol. We were all lurkers at one point right.

QOTD: I dont watch tennis so all I know is anna kornacova (sp)

What were you listening to Gary?

I’ll bite….what that hell is with the ear phones?
Favorite tennis player – Tomas Muster (Salute to Austria and the clay court)
I love the gruner! I lived in Austria for a while and became a mainstay in Wachau. Willi Brundlmayer is also making some killer wines! FX Pichler as well.
    I would love to adopt a lurker….
Why not do shows from London? You can buy the wines at Berry Brothers for Farr and get serious! Maybe you could raid Berry and get some 19th century claret.

QOTD: Roger Federer. We’re also enjoying an ice/sleet/snow storm here in Indy. Fortunately most folks played it safe and stayed off the roads today.

Thanks for the episode on Gruner Veltliner. It is very food friendly, indeed.

Good episode. I find Grüner Veltliner to be almost as versatile with food as Riesling. Too bad the lower priced Grüner Veltliners didn’t work out. Huber makes some good lower priced GV. Be on the lookout for them.

QOD: Men – Andre Agassi for his guts, determination and long career. Women – Jennifer Capriati for her comeback to excellence after looking so down & out.

Just record everything you do, check in on the boards, and then put it all together for a show when you get back.

I’ll adopt a lurker, I’ll adopt 10 lurkers if need be, I want more people to see how great this show is….

And you won’t believe this but, I’m leaving for London on friday!!! I’ll be there all next week as well, maybe a cafe meet up sometime for a nice bottle?

QOTD: It would have to be Agassi

QOTD: I didn’t have one, but since I have to choose and in consideration of today’s show, I choose Thomas Muster. Not ONLY an Austrian tennis player (mid 90’s) but also a wine maker in…….Austria. His brand is “Tom’s Wine” -> http://www.toms-wine.at/
Yes siree Bob, I score high on today’s QOTD relevance quotient.

Enjoyed the episode. I have had these wines sev times with sushi although I can’t recall the names, but they were an excellent match
QOD- Jimmy Connor no doubt. Never forget his run at the US open in his later years and a great entertainer on the court. Also he is left-handed like me!

    Great episode.

I love GruV. It was my introduction to real wine while studying in Austria 30 years ago. Most of what I drank was poured from gallon jugs by bartenders, but all of it was more enchanting than the wine I had tasted at home.

A great pairing Gary didn’t mention is the classic–Wiener Schnitzel with a crisp GruV. Squeeze a little lemon over this thin, breaded cutlet, and sip a little crisp Veltliner. You have a perfect match. Even a sharp finishing wine, such as the last one, works.

QOTD: Yay! tennis kicks footballs ass! Grew up watching McEnroe and Conners rivelry, most entertaining. Sexiest tennis players would have to be…Yannick Noah and Gabriela Sabatini. Best hair goes to Bjorn Borg, I miss the long hair and headband days.
