Global warming scares me too….maybe not as much as “Fake 92-94 Parker” Shiraz.

Gary, terrific and controversial ending. I too am afraid of the “Parker-ization” of the world’s wines. I want Bordeaux to taste like Bordeaux and Brunello to taste like Brunello. If I ever taste a Barolo tasting like a cab – I’ll quit drinking wine and go back to beer. Outside of Civil War in Iraq nothing scares me more than every wine in world becoming “Fake 92-94 Parker Shiraz”

    The Raging Platypus

The Platypus is always down for a game or five of basketball. I’m 5′6 of pure undilated fury on the hardtop, so don’t ya’all be dissin’ us undersized point guards! I am the poorest of the poor man’s version of Marc Jackson. Really poor. Oh yeah. I can hear the league quacking in their boots already.

Nice job on the jock strap analogy – I was eating a salad while I was watching this, and I had to look down, a deep sigh escaping my lips as I pushed my plate away in disgust. =P Keep up the great work!

    QOTD: HELLS YEAH

I would put Gary V. on a chain and place that chain around my neck and make fun of him because i would own him on the court. ha ha…seriously i would school ya. We have a game mon-wed-fri 12:30-2pm in westchester county ny if you dare. Two ways i know you have no game, the justin timberlake reference and that weak ass shot you took at the end of the video. Good episode though. Stick with what you know….wine.

CQOD: I would NEVER say no to free shipping for any reason!
I’m a little disappointed to hear about the WOTY. I probably would never have tried it anyway, just because of the cost. But I do hope the wine world isn’t headed south. (No offense TampaSteve ;) )
I like the idea of a wine that doesn’t try to mask its own identity.
I’m proud of my roots; so should a wine be.

QOTD: Yes, particularly if that includes the EU!!

    T-Shirt question. 0

Though not the first, maybe the first answer from a European location? Does that count?

Way to go on the Pomerol! I’m dying to get my hands on some…

Still watching everyday from Hong Kong.

Gary, follow the money trail. The wine world will follow the money trail the same way everything else does. Old world wines will gravitate to what the general population is drinking. Case in point the mass of fruit bombs from nowhere else but the country with the largest surplus of juice.. Australia. Not all bad, but a little disheartening to traditional wine lovers like us. Great for the uneducated public. That is why a lot of you, with a little bit of us need to keep changing the wine world. PLEASE keep up the GREAT work!!!

Alright..first off GV…gotta apologize…I have Procrastinated and do not have a shirt yet to take a pic…Your Jedi has let you down.

Secondly: Kahuna and Locals….Free shipping yes….and not to start a Blog war…but dougdell said it…you get to see the WL everyday you want….you get to see and smell the real GVs jock strap or whatever it is you locals do

Good show gary….about the athletics…I wrestled in school, but once you get older…something just doesn’t sound right about challenging another man to wrestle around on a mat in a tight suit:) How about some good old fashion rugby!

Got some bordeaux’s in the shopping cart, but wondered about the weather and shipping!

Being the true entrepenuer that you are I figured you would hand out free T’s for the 1 year…it works as free advertisement for you and keeps the vayniacs happy..but free shipping is a bonus!

Thanks for keeping it real GV!

interesting variety of wines today gary…….so glad to hear your take on the mollydooker….i totally agree that such a wine should have a warning on it about it being a beverage other than wine…in fact, when i tasted it, my first thought was that they should have called it a port. i hate that much sugar and alc…..esp. when there’s nothing else going on but BIG. the le gay sounds more like my kind of wine. also interesting to point out the italian brunello attempt at mollydookerizing……and in addition, to show at least one reason why mollydookerizing is happening: lynch-bages sour grapes effort. nice complex show. i am all for wine makers to use the mininum amount of technology to make a tasty wine with varietal typicity. wines with character over wines that intentionally act like wines made from other grapes.

It’s not shocking to me that you’re athletic, but you appear to be a bit vertically challenged. Unless you can channel the talent of Steve Nash, I’m afraid your palate might get damaged with all the leather you be tastin’….you’ll be picking up brett in every sip, homestyle…bring it…peace out.

QOTD: Yes, of course! I only need a tiny push to order more wine… Another great episode.

    Gary-
    Another fabulous ep!
    Great job!
I hope that not all wines will start tasting alike:(
Variety is the spice of life!

QOTD….SHOULD GV GIVE US FREE SHIPPING FOR THE ONE YEAR WLTV ANNIVERSARY?

Comment 16: By TampaSteve on February 15th, 2007 at 5:11 pm

    TampaSteve:
    Yes – he should!
    I NEED more free shipping!?!?!?
    :)

I agree free shipping would be a great anniversary gift. And thanks Gary for throwing in the plug for Texas wines.

QOTD: No, how about 1/2 price shipping and Eric gets 1/2. For the arithmetically challenged, if shipping was $20, you pay $10 and Eric gets $5.
I’d travel to NJ to play WLTV Soccer, but Soccer is not in ‘your face’ enough like B-ball.

    GV – great episode…
    as usual.

Come ON guys, we all know we’re going to buy more wine, free shipping or not.

Granted, twenty bucks less spent on shipping means twenty bucks more spent on wine – and I’m all for that.

Personally, I’m not big on the basketball, but the softball and golf outing are intriguing

Come out to Chicagoland for the Midwest tour and you’ll get your bball game…what are you, 5′5″, 5′6″ tops? Everyone keeps commenting on the huge wine glass you use…to me, it looks just about to scale. Better start asking Dad for some more OT…

    And the JT comment? Please…

Thanks for the continued balance on new and old world wines. i’m drinking enough these days to start noticing the difference but if i didn’t want to purchase $50+ bottles in order to do a side by side, old world/new world cagematch for friends, are there under $30 bottles i can buy to do this with?

    great QOTD. obvious answer: yep.

thanks again for another informative episode!
