QOTD- I have a ton more wines and less money in my checking account- I am on a regular basis drinking wines that are much better in quality and better priced than I ever have before- My wine inventory has diversified in countless ways al thanks to my little Elf GV or shall I say my Little Tea Pot
      “I’m a little teapot
      Short and stout
      Here is my handle
      Here is my spout

QOD – What has changed for me in this past year? I am trying more wines that I probably wouldn’t have before. I am trying to do the whole “1 new bottle” a day thing…Workign out well.. I have really expanded my palate…

QOTD: my wine knowledge has grown ten-fold in the last year. a year ago i couldn’t even name a wine from bordeaux. also, it’s been great being in a wine forum where everyone isn’t a wine snob and it’s about having fun drinking wine. thanks Gary!!

Wait. Something fishy here. I was comment # 11. Now I’ve been pushed down to # 13. Do WLTV staff get ranking privileges? :)

I just Googled, and was surprised to read that the UK has over 200 wine producers! Yeah whiskey and ale, but who knew about wine? Maybe something for a future episode?

Also, thank you Gary for the “Introduce Yourself” link- I’ve already had quite a few welcoming responses. Keep it up, big guy! (and now to watch the rest of the episode for QOTD…

Wine TV is wild, crazy….My palate responds to this Wine Library TV..like….this is unique..its crazy…Never had this sensation from Internet….Let’s score wine TV 99 points classic!

Great Job on the one year!….I’ll be ordering the shirt

QOTD: Had no wine life a year ago until moving to Indiana…It was that Oakford Vineyard 95 cabernet and wine library TV!

Keep it real in London GV

QOTD: I now buy wine online and trust that it’s going to get to me without a problem.

Congrats on the one year, Gary… What’s in store for year two?

    31. February 21, 2007

      Brooklyn Paul

Thanks for the episode Gary. Congrats on reaching 1 year. Amazing really.

QOTD: Well, I could make a joke about having no money left and no space to store anything ;-)

But in all seriousness, the change in my wine world can be summed up 3 ways:
      1) I’m drinking a 2004 Domaine La Garrigue Vacqueyras tonight! Me! That’s awesome!
      2) Not only will I be drinking the Vacqueyras, but I’ll be sharing tasting notes with my friends!
      3) In about a month I’ll be going to my 3rd wine tasting dinner in 4 months, with a bunch of great people. How amazing is that?

      Thanks!

    32. February 21, 2007

      SS Chris

CONGRATULATIONS Gary, Erik, Chris and entire WLTV Team!!

Truly Amazing accomplishment in one year.

It’s funny my wine life hasn’t changed much….last year I was involved w/ a Forum from another Wine Video BLOG, and, coincidentally, was providing a SS for them….but I like this team better!!!

    33. February 21, 2007

      Dom

Tea? “Camomile” I’m guessing Eric never bought any since the spelling is not even close.

I think the British have it right by having “afternoon tea”. I remember this while on vacation in Bermuda when we skipped lunch, had afternoon tea with scones and small sandwiches and then a late dinner. Very nice.

Free shipping! I just placed an order two days ago and it should be delivered to the office tomorrow! Oh well. I need to go order some tea!

QOTD: What has changed for me wine-wise in the past year? Obviously, WLTV and your informative, funny and exciting reviews. I HAVE to watch every day which is saying something since there are only two or three things I HAVE to do: work, sleep, workout. Other than that, just realizing how much more I need to learn and want to learn about wine.

Gary: Happy 1st Anniversary! It has been great and “thank you”!

      Cheerio!

QOTD: one year ago I had no wine “collection”. I bought as i drank, once in a while. Never scored wines, gave TNs, just said “this is good” or “this is bad”…but wine was wine. Now i have approx 175 bottles in 2 coolers, I drink and taste as often as i can, records TNs, score wines, and buy buy buy. WLTV has been a big help for my learning.

Congrats on first year Gary and WLTV staff

QOTD — Redundant, but spending more money on wine and drinking more of it. It shows in the waistline as well as the wallet. No complaints, though.

Happy Anniversary Gary! Nice tea episode, are you going to put on your smoking jacket on Friday and do a Ports and cigars episode?

QOD – Biggest difference for me in the past year has been a bit of a tone-down in chasing expensive, high-scoring wines. They still catch my eye, and wallet, from time to time, but as often and price is more of a factor.

A First Anniversary Tea Party at the Muffin Man in Kensington — how veddy, veddy civilised!

Tasting & scoring tea just as you do wine – jolly good!

It was fun finding you in your first year of WLTV – thanks to Lars for that.

QOD: Wine is now actually a blip on my radar screen – thanks to you for that.

Here’s to another, and many, many more.

      Happy Anniversary, Gar’!

Happy Anniversary Gary and the whole WLTV family. Many kudos to Erik and all the guys behind the scenes for all the hard work.

QOTD: Two things have changed for me. I got married to the most wonderful woman in the world. You met her Gary! And, I found WL and WLTV. It is not kiss assing or glad handing to tell you that WLTV has inspired me to take my interest in wine to a new level.

Here’s to another great year of WLTV, and safe travels!

      Cheers!

Since I’m majoring in music and I have a lot of free time on my hands….What if I composed and recorded a quick Jingle for Wine Library as sort of the theme song to play in the beginning?? Thought that would be a cool idea….

      Congratulations on WLTV’s one-year anniversary!
QOTD: A year ago, I didn’t even drink wine. Now I’m taking classes and seminars, going to tastings almost every weekend, and educating myself as much as time and opportunity will allow.

    46. February 21, 2007

      gordoyflaca

GV- Thanks for the Tea Episode! (TLTV?) Coincidence? While watching the episode, I’m drinking a pot of Golden Monkey, my favorite! (black, Fujian Provence, China)

Incidentally, Lapsang Souchong is also a black tea from the Fujian Provence of China, but it is usually smoked over a fire during processing

QOD: 1 year ago today I had about 30 bottles stored under the sink; never took or read tasting notes; It was just thumbs up or thumbs down. Then my fiancee bought me a 48 bottle wine refrigerator and I started watching WLTV; The fridge is now stuffed full with about 55 bottles, and there are another 140 in the closet, 48 futures purchases, I track my inventory and make tasting notes on CellarTracker… and I love it!

    47. February 21, 2007

      YoungDave

      Fantastic ep!!
Thought: Is it possible that Gary’s passion for wine and black tea is because both have tannins?
QOTD: Well, I pay a lot more attention to what each wine I drink “brings to the table” for the price (quite a modest budget for this guy), and I’ve tried to buy outside the box of large new world producers, and have been buying some old world (Bordeaux and Rhone for the first time, as well as values from Spain), as well as varietals that I’d never heard of before WLTV.
I know you said that this ep is for us, GARY, but THANK YOU so much and sincerest CONGRATS to you and the whole WLTV team.

    48. February 21, 2007

      Harley Stan

Congrats on the one year from someone who has only been watching for a few months!!
QOTD- When I open a bottle I now go for the full experience, I focus on the aroma before the glass touches my lips. when I do taste, I take the time to taste everyting thing in the glass instead of down the hatch look out tummy here it comes. I have only been around WLTV for a short time but what a difference. Thanks!!

    49. February 21, 2007

      James Darling

Thanks for the mention! Was quite surreal to find you sitting there.
As for tea, I spoke to quite a few BBC staff at FOWA, and was outraged at how few have stuck to tea and how many have switched to coffee. Where have all Standards the BBC used to stand for gone? I don’t pay a license fee to have them drinking coffee!
Anyway, well done on the anniversary, if I had paid attention I would have got you a card.

Congrats Gary – Disappointed that the show wasn’t shot at Gordon Ramsey’s 3-Star, inc. a modest dinner w/ 2 or 3 1st growths — that would make for a tidy tab on the expense acct.

    52. February 21, 2007

      Len C

Congrats on your 1st year!!! Great job, great community!

QOD I have a lot more wine in my house and a lot less money in my pocket :-) Seriously though I have entered into the wine world, tasted wines I never thought I would and have learned a ton…more to come.

    53. February 21, 2007

      kenito799

Congrats! And thanks! Spot-on (picked that up from the Brits yet?) with the hip hop soundtrack and the curveball of a tea tasting…if I were in grad school in English probably could do a thesis on wltv with a lit-crit analysis…wait, no, Media Studies/Philosophy at NYU.
QOTD: Corresponding with the explosion of wltv in the past year has been the growth of my interest in wine, beer (when will you taste some fine beers? hey, how about a Belgian lambic tasting???) and food in general. So compared to one year ago, I now have 100 bottles of wine in storage, I have tasted and thought about more than 100 wines and 60 beers. wltv has been hugely educational and fun.
QOTD 2 episodes ago (what is the best $12 wine you have had in the last 39 days?): I looked back and either I didn’t like it or it was less than $12 but TODAY I am drinking a fresh, real, simple but super tasty Castilla-La Mancha Tempranillo (85%) Cab (15%) 02 Fontal Crianza that I picked up for $6.29…medium-bodied, blackberries, cherries, chocolate with a decent bitter finish with well-integrated tannins, EASILY the best under $10 wine I have had in a year, let alone 39 days.

    54. February 21, 2007

      gordoyflaca

I agree with a Beer episode. How about a comparison of Saisons?

I’m feeling and experiencing wine now the same way as Harley Stan.
Thanks to everyone at Winelibrary, and to all the viewers for making this community something fun, educational and exceptional!

      Russ J

Congratulations Gary and the entire WLTV team!
I know you’re not a beer guy, GV, but please find a good pub and try something on the hand pump!

QOTD: WLTV has vastly expanded my wine horizons, from learning how to give an un-self conscious tasting note to better understanding how to categorize my own tastes.

    57. February 21, 2007

      Lars

Congrats on 1 year, Wine Guy.

QOTD: malt vinegar or tartar sauce. MV of course!

      GV-
Congrats on the 1 year anniversary. Hope everything is going well in London.

QOTD: The way I talk about wine has COMPLETELY changed. Before, I was getting most of my vernacular from Wine Spectator and their reviews. Now, I use alot of your terminology, but most importantly, I say exactly what comes to my mind. If my wine smells like a cereal i eat, or a household product i use, then I will say it. As opposed to trying to find smells that I knew were “supposed to be in a wine”.

The second major thing is I have been trying more wines from different regions. It is fun being adventurous, and your show has helped steer my purchases in a great direction.

Congrats, and here’s to another year of changing the wine world!

    59. February 21, 2007

      Joyce

Wow, 1 year! We have seen you grow from a very mild-mannered, quiet, business-like conservative host–to the out-going, fun, rock chewing, dirt eating, sock sucking, freeze your butt off in the sleet crazy guy we all love! I can’t wait for year 2!

QOD: This time last year, my wine vocabulary consisted of “white, or red”?? Now I can use the word ‘terroir’ in a sentence!! HA! Thanks for the entertainment and info, keep it coming! Congrats on year 1!!!!

    60. February 21, 2007

      TommyBoBo of WI

One year? Hell, I’ve only known of this place for less than two weeks, put my wine appreciation has been changed forever. The enthusiasm you share with all of us to explore,, and that’s really what it’s all about, not getting in a rut, but trying new things and learning how to explain what you are sensing. And I laugh everytime I think of you saying, “Let’s drink some God Damn wine!!!”
Yes let’s,. Congratulations and Best Wishes for year two. tks GV

QOD: It’s broadened my wine knowledge, I’ve tried a ton of stuff I wouldn’t otherwise have tried, and I’ve gotten to know (and become friends with) a bunch of folks from this site. It’s been a great year!

QOTD A year ago, we used to read Parker’s reviews and wondered why he never mentioned the lizard backs and worm heads we were tasting. Then we discovered Gary V. Now we look forward to popping a bottle, slicing some cheese and listening to Gary go nuts.

Thanks to the whole crew that makes this happen!

Happy FIRST anniversary! You’ll remember this when you’re old and soaking your “teeth” to get the purple out.

      Julia

Congrats on a great year! As per usual, you’re well ahead of the curve — the predictions are that Southern England will eventually be a world-class wine-producing region. QOD: I am spending more on wine…and drinking varietals I never tried before.

    65. February 21, 2007

      wannaBconnoisseur

      Congrats!!

I’ve only been watching WLTV for a few weeks and I am already completely hooked. I look forward to many years to come.

QOTD – I’m trying new wines and learning a lot, thanks Gary!!!

I’ve learned that the day really flies by when you’re catching up on old WLTV episodes. I’ve aslo learned that ETHUSIASM BREEDS ENTHUSIASM. The more I learn the more I’m humbled by what is the wine world.Wine is fun damn it. Trust you’re palate. Try new stuff. Congrats on ONE YEAR!
      Thanks WLTV and GARY V….!!

oh yeah, I’ve also learned the Bears need a new QB..

Hey WLTV–Kudos, congrats, thanks!!! WineSpectator sent out an email today mentioning how they’re about to start a weekly video blog. Now where do you think they got that idea?!? Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery. but there’s only one GV. And I trust his opinion more than Laube and Co these days. Well done, Gary! Now get some sleep.

Gary – Happy Anniversary! As my grandma used to say, “…and a happy many more!”

QOTD – GV & WLTV is what has changed me wine-wise. You produce a great product. You are contagious, infectious, hilarious, entertaining, informative, and have me totally hooked. Thanks for maxing out my credit cards, tripling the size of my wine cellar, improving my wine education, and helping me to find and drink much better tasting wine. Thanks for creating WLTV and for all you and your staff do to make it so good!

Absolutely awesome episode. I’ve really enjoyed the program over the past few months – - I found it through Google, while I was trying to figure out some information about how to decant wine. Since getting the straight info from you on that, I have learned so much about wine. You might piss off the distributors and the wineries, but from a consumer standpoint, I get the feeling that you’re telling the truth when you praise a wine – - particularly because of your unceremonious way of panning the bad ones. Your enthusiasm and personality really show through, and I appreciate the dedication and hard work of you and the rest of the crew that makes this show happen.

QOTD: I don’t feel embarrassed anymore to roll up into a wine store and ask for anything I’m looking for – - if the director of Ops at Wine Library pronounces things how he wants to, then damnit, so can I! As long as the right bottle ends up on my table, what the hell, it’s just wine.

WLTV has definitely changed my wine world.

    73. February 21, 2007

      Matt the Lurker

QOTD- In the last year I ventured past the reds into the whites. It’s nice to make that jump because my possibilities are now doubled. In addition, this year I’d say my wine knowledge has probably quadrupled. Thanks GV and the WLTV cru. Happy 1st. -MTL

Congrats!! And thank you!! My wine experience has improved by leaps and bounds since first discovering the show. I can actually have an intelligent conversation about varietals and terroir. For this I thank you and the entire WLTV community. (as i raise my glass) To many more years of WLTV!!! Cheers!!!

    75. February 21, 2007

Congratulations Gary! Definitely try to find a “free house” with a good hand pump and locally brewed ale.

QOTD: I’ve learned to trust my nose and palate a lot more than ratings. Also, to get serious and buy some half-decent stemware and a decanter (thank you Riedel and Target!).

    77. February 21, 2007

      Steve R

Congrats to all on the one year anniversary!

QOTD: Tow new wine experiences: (1) I finally buckled under and bought 2005 Bordeaux futures (from WL, of course) and (2) I tried Cahors for the first time.

Thanks for the fun, the learning, and the energy!

Love the enthusiasm, honesty and love you bring to the web.
You should be very proud of what you have done in one year.
As a bit of friendly feedback from a buddy of mine in the “industry”.
Please get a wind guard on the mic when you film outdoors.
      It costs like $.75…….

QOTD: My pallet has changed unbelievably, your descriptions and wine selections have been a part of that….

Peace out…and have some Wagamamas for me……

Great to be part of the Vayniac family!
QOD Although I’ve been into wine for 15 years, I’ve learned alot about certain wine areas that I hadn’t experienced-like Cahors and Bourgeil, plus I’ve learned lots of new ways to describe wines such as “Urinal from a carnival” or tasting my ballglove in right field
Enjoy the rest of the stay in Lomdon

QOTD: I have learned so much about wine in the past year. I’ve gotten out of the California rut and am branching out learning about French wines, Italian wines, Spanish wines, etc. Now have a closet full of wine and am contemplating the big wine fridge purchase (requisite for hardcore.) I found out there’s a lot of wine nuts out there, in my local wine store, at winetastings, and here on wonderful WineLibraryTV! I enjoy the witty comments on this blog and Gary’s wonderfully funny, sometimes satirical sendup of the wine world. No, I know you’re serious about it, but often you seem very tongue-in-cheek and I love it! Gary, I predict an eventual career for you somewhere in the entertainment industry. Remember us Vayniak fans when you hit the big time. Congrats on the one-year anniversary.

QOD – One year ago I had two, maybe three bottles of wine in a cabinet in the kitchen. Today I have 100 (coincidentally, exactly) bottles in the cellar in racks and in the cabinet. Today I know Pinot from Cab, Sav Blanc from Reisling. A year ago I liked an occasional glass of wine. Today I’m an admitted wine geek, reading blogs, visiting ALL the wine stores in town, and NEVER missing an episode of WLTV. Thanks and congrats, Gary!

      Gary,
Congratulations on 1 Fabulous Year! Your energy and heart are as big as the outdoors. Thanks for putting so much of yourself into your shows. QOTD: Easy one. Just happened tonight. One year ago, I would look at a good wine list and go “duh”. Tonight at dinner, looked at a wine list and was able to pick out a Tensley Syrah and David Arthur Meritage, and not hope. but KNOW they would be good. Why? ‘Cause you said they were, and you have never let me down! Needless to say, the wines were fabulous, a big hit, and my guests were impressed with my selections. Of course, when they asked me how I knew about those wines, I said “WLTV”. You know should have 2 new viewers.

Anyway, thanks for my continuing education in the wine world. You have certainly changed it for me. All my best for an even more spectacular 2nd year.

      John

Thank you Gary! Congrats on 1 year.

QOTD: There was a time when I basically stuck with what I knew… Cali cabs, Chiantis, etc. Now I’ll try anything, and am in fact very excited to try new grapes. A lot of the reason for that is WLTV.

Gary, Congrats on one year of a tremendous wine experience, I can not belive hyow time flies by. You made the wine world a diferent place and a friendly place.
QOTD: I have learn a lot in one year, actually 1 year ago I was not interested in wine at all, but men what a diference does a year and wine library does to people. I have learn a lor from books, I am taking a class on how to taste, and the experience that wine library has given me is priceless, and I mean all of WLTV you, the forums, the comments of every body, all in a joint learning experience. I wish you and all of your fans a happy 1st anniversary, and I’m sure that the best is yet to come. Thanks for sharing your knoledge.

Gary and the WLTV crew (Eric and people behind the scenes who make this project possible), congratulations on a job well done. I feel you guys have opened up my eyes to the fascinating world of wine and for that I thank and salute you. Keep doing what you do best (maybe you do other things better. Was that a bit presumptious? hehe).

      True story:
Capt. M emailed me after I mentioned WLTV on my blog and we are starting a little wine group here in Panama and we have WLTV to thank for that. Awesome job guys.

congrats on 1 year…we know how hard you work and do appreciate it. QOTD: Easy…knowledge…I have learned more about wine already than I thought I would ever know. I am trying things I never would have tried and actually feel like I can speak intelligently about wine….sometimes.

Ah, Gary, Ab Fab!!!! Love London!! Great episode!!! QOD: In one year, I’ve become picky in my wines. And I’ve listened to my own palate, decided what it is that I like, and don’t apologize for it. You’re always telling us to taste alot of wines and trust our own palates. Best wine lesson I’ve EVER learned. Thank you, Gary…for the first year of episodes, and, hopefully, for many more years to come. You have revolutionized how wine is perceived. Thank you, Gary.

QOD-What’s different for my husband and me is what it takes (in a bottle!) to make us happy. Just last weekend I opened a wine we used to enjoy as an “every-day” wine. He said, “wow. what happened to this wine – I thought I liked this one?!” and I said, “too many WLTV episodes, too many WL shipments and too many free.winelibrary invoices”. We’ve tasted a LOT because of WLTV and our watermark has risen! Thanks for that, Gary and crew (I think… though our 3rd child may end up paying her own way through college as a result)!

Congrats to all at Wine Library and WLTV! I was hooked from the first episode I watched (just six weeks ago). I love the entertainment, the education and admire the business model too.

QOTD: I moved from DC to NYC this past year. One of my DC neighbors used to come over and drink all my wine, so now my collection is being depleted at a slower rate. But hey – wine is for sharing, right? I look forward to raising a glass (or two) with the Vayniacs in WLTV’s second year!

    93. February 21, 2007

      StanVH

It has been an interesting year — for wine lovers, for video bloggers, for education about wine and fore pure entertainment. This is a whole new way to communicate and exchange information about wine (and tea) and cheeses and jams and jellies and . . . dirt.

Gary, your little bit and the rest of us are, indeed, changing the wine world. Looking forward to the next year of interesting and provacative Wine Library TV.

      Thanks

QOTD I spend way too much $ on wine and I’m not afraid to say things like “this wine tastes exactly like unicorns humping under the rainbow.” Thanks.

Congratulations on the one year anniversary! I’m partial to Silver Needle White, myself.

QOTD: A lot more wine…a lot less beer. As many have already said, I’m trying and enjoying many new wines I never would have experienced if not for GV and WLTV. Thanks, and have a safe trip home!

    97. February 21, 2007

Nice anniversary episode. I mean it. How cool is it that you’re doing a tea tasting from a London shop? Just remember that no matter how much you do, for some people it will never be enough. Follow your heart and you’ll do just fine.

QOTD: Like many on here, I’m spending more time trying to assess what I am tasting and what I am liking and not liking. A year ago I bought primarily based on other people’s recommendations. While that still factors in, I’m making more of an effort to understand my palate. And most of that is due to your influence and that of the forum members who have been extremeley generous with information and advice. And not a few gibes. Congratulations on the anniversary!

      Congrats on your WLTV birthday!

      Big Props to you for:
-having Lady Sov as show open soundtrack today…start of a trend?….I like!
-being a real fresh talent–- at once exciting, down-to-earth, interesting, genuine, yet ridiculous…a rare combo
-being so prolific with your content, and so infectious with your passion
-surprising us every couple episodes with your ridic flavor profiles
-injecting the wine world with some much needed fun
-helping me remember fondly my youth pop culture (Quik, Voltron, Freeze-pops, Cocoa Puffs, “Nards”)
-building a brand and being a pioneer in what you are doing in this new frontier
-and finally, I have to pay belated homage to that truly awesome “Wind Chill” episode last week….again, nice grab!

Keep it up. My 3rd mixed case on the way after today’s offer

QOTD. I’ve only been watching for three months, but my answer would have to be decanting. I decant everything now. From 2, 4, 5, 12 hours. And I can’t wait to try stuff that I’ve never had. Next is Warwick pinot taje.

Hope your doing this for years to come.

      Happy Anniversary GV.

Unfortunately, I drink less wine today than I did a year ago. However, I am more educated and appreciate wine much more than I used to.

Tea, Cheese, Wine, are you going to knock off Zabar’s. Serious effort is appreciated and everyone at WLTV brings the effort. Thanks.

congrats to Gary, Erik, Chris and the WLTV team for a great year!

qotd: WLTV and possibly just as important, the WLTV forum has exposed me to a lot of wines that I normally wouldn’t have known about. Gary’s tastings have prompted me to learn how to taste wines (as opposed to merely drinking them). Along with watching and listening to Gary tasting wine every day, I have bought many books containing essays on winetasting as well as Jancis Robinson’s “How to Taste” which have been extremely informative.

BTW, tea and wine have an important element in common, they both contain tannin. In “How to Taste”, Jancis Robinson devotes a paragraph (p29) on “Tea and Tannin”.

QOTD: Willing to spend over $15 for a bottle of wine (and usually do), buying wine online, keeping more wine on hand than I could possibly binge in a weekend, planning to build a formal wine cellar this spring, and addicted to WLTV.

The biggest difference in my wine life from a year ago is you. I feel that I now have a personal wine taster. No longer do I buy wine ,put it down for 5-10 years and hope I made the right guess. Now I go into the wine room( 300+ )and talk to my new bottles (very important) about our future together. I only hope I live long enough to enjoy the wines I got from you this year. My son assures me that when I’m gone he will pour these on my grave;but only after passing thru his kidneys. Thanks for a great year. Jerry the 2THDR

      QOTD-

      Top 10 list of answers-

      10) I now mispronounce many wine terms I used to say correctly
      9) I sometimes eat cloves for that fun “numb your tongue” feeling
      8) I strangely become hungry when walking by bags of potting soil
      7) I have nightmares about being caught in the camel clutch
      6) I taste different peoples’ dirty socks to experience their terroir
      5) Whenever I say my name, I shout it and over-annunciate (with air quotes)
      4) My wife got wine as a present for Valentine’s Day, X-mas & her birthday (and she doesn’t drink)
      3) Skeletons in the closet, no I hide boxes in the basement!
      2) I hate the Jets even more
      1) Wine tastes better when it’s snowing, 15 degrees, my “nards” are freezing and my glass blows away like a kite!

Congrats Big G! Here’s to many more years of making wine fun!

      How can I follow TheDumbPhase’s top 10 list (comment 107) – HILARIOUS!

      Congratulations Gary!

Most of my friends are beer drinkers or worse yet, NON-drinkers! …so finding you and the WLTV community has been huge! I came in around ep 100, but I have gone back and watched most of the earlier ones. I have yet to order anything, but I will, I promise. Being a left-coaster I’m a little worried about getting a wet purple box on my doorstep, but I will test it out with some cheap stuff.

QOTD: Like many other Vayniacs have said today… you have raised my expectations of wine. Many of the wines that I used to drink you have slammed with some GV-75’s and GV-82’s… lot’s of Vayner-PAZZZZZZ’s. The Cambria Chardonnay comes to mind. I have been drinking Rioja’s and Viogner’s lately because of recent episodes. A year ago I had no idea what a Rioja was? It’s working Gary, you are changing the wine world.

      Thanks man.

I gotta go order a couple shirts now!

Tea tasting for a calming, earthy, spice of life… Great Change of Pace, Gary. You are multi-dimensional and kindly validate other taster’s self esteem. When you describe beverages based on personal experience, preferences and encourage others to do the same, you are enhancing an appreciation of not only the world of wine, cheese and tea, but cultural world view. Hoooray for your one year anniversary. Thank Eric and Chris for all their talented efforts.
It will be exciting to see / hear the new technology you will bring back from your London trip.
QOTD: In the past year we have remodeled our basement wine storage are into a real 1000 btl “Wine Cellar” using “Uncorked” software to keep track of our odd assortment of wines, their value and recommendations for optimal drinking. It feels really great to be organized. WLTV and forums have helped us to consider and make purchases to ‘balance our cellar’ beverages for pairing with our diverse range of favorite foods and new adventures into the Wine and Food world. Thank you for your honesty, enthusiasm and empowerment.

Hey, Gary, it’s also a huge thank you from us to you I think. So: applause!
For me the difference: the big difference, that’s also a big difference for us (OFO): to know that there are other people who think the same about wine as we do: unprejudiced, uncrippled by wine discourse and completely nuts on every bottle they come across. Most valuable difference: the impulse to try eveything unknown, that’s what I like so much. So thx again and go on for some more 80 years, ok ;-) ?

A year ago I was in the Hunter Valley in Australia where my son lives, happy to taste Semillon but not knowing really what I was doing. I started to learn.

Much later (I think December 2006) my wine studies got me to stumble into (isn’t that how web sites get found) WLTV. You, Gary, have gotten me to think. I don’t take everything you say chapter and verse, but you’re a damn smart dude.

Being of Russian background myself (and since I drink about six cups a day) I really appreciated the tea tasting. It would be nice to see something like this every few months or so, kind of a cross training for the palate.

Keep up the good work, and keep nagging those lurkers.

Biggest Difference in my wine life?

learning new, amazing things about wine
      and

QOTD: A year ago the only time I never would have gone into a store and bought wine that I hadn’t tried. Let alone anything that wasn’t from Cali, or Washington. Great episode, and congrats!
I’d say in the past year I’ve tried so many more varietals. I’ve learned more from every bottle and learned how to choose wines better. I’ve spent a lot more $$ on wine, but I know that I will be rewarded in a few years with some nicely aged selections. And wine has turned from a beverage to a hobby!

QOTD: Not only have you expanded my wine knowledge and palatte, but now i take the same approach with everything I eat and drink. I taste foods instead of inhaling them. And I savor them. And I end up eating so much better because of it. great approach to everything in life. thanks again.

Gary, its a bit low on the list, but I just wanted to reiterate how much I appreciate you and the WLTV team have put into this over the last year. True, as you mentioned, you have received a lot in return, but it is so difficult to do something like this day in and day out; and do it well!

Great call on the tea too! LOVE tea, I think that most wine drinkers would — especially loose leaf. I went into this amazing tea shop in Oak Park, Illinois a few years ago (http://www.todd-holland.com/)that floored me in the variety of teas available . . . and I have been a huge fan ever since.

QOTD – like many others have written, the biggest change for me is how much my horizons have expanded and how many different wines I have tried and enjoyed as a result of learning more about them from WLTV. I also now give about a half hour a day to watching each episdoe and trying to keep up with the forums. It has become a favorite time of the day. And….I now get these strange impulses to pick up worms off the sidewalk or wet rocks off the street and lick them, just to find out what they taste like….what’s up with that??..:)

Thanks again Master…keep up the good work!

      Your humble student…

Gary and the WLTV team- Just a great year. “You’ve come a long way baby” (I can’t remember the ad I took that from…some kind of smoke maybe) and so have all of us. Thanks Gary.

QOTD- To be able to say “a huge shot of black licorice” and then try to think what the other flavors might be. Who knew we could do this?

      Cheers!

What’s worse, the Jets secondary or the Brits dental plan? Happy A my friend. It’s been a great year for all of us.

I’m driving home on Rt. 78W last night to Bernardsville and I look out of my driver side window and who do I see on the eastbound billboard? I see you, you sick bastard! I’m used to seeing you on my 19″ monitor and now I see gargantuan Gary VAY-NER-CHUCK. Oh, by the way, you are quite striking at 80 mph.

      Keep it up man.

I’m off to do the work of many.

I’m late today GV.. but better later than never!

Very special ep today(or yesterday). Loved the twist of Tea you’ve added to mark the occasion. WLTV is so much more than just an informative show about wine. The humor, camaraderie, inventiveness, and interactivity are just some of the positive qualities of the show. You’ve been through a whole year and there have been sooo many changes and additions to the format. Who can say what will happen in the coming years. I’m looking forward to each and every one of them :)

Gary, here’s your 140th “Congratulations”! Just watched the episode today (1 day late) and what do I see but my 3 favorite men in their VAYNIAK t shirts and wine tote gear they got at Christmas holding Sharpshooter Cab! Thanks for the #1 spot!
QOTD: Although I’ve been learning about wines for 10 or more years on my own, your daily video has taken that education to a new level. My whole attitude about the wine experience has become so much more open to a wide range of tastes and preferences. You’ve made it fun, accessible and much more of an experience than a drink. The community you’ve created for us allows us to interact and even much more, have questions answered at the click of a button. Your responses to me thru email were always timely and helpful. Can’t imagine where you find more than 24 hours in a day to do it all.
Kudos to all your staff who have never been anything other than polite, helpful and very quick responders!
I’m looking forward to follow your successes in the future, thanks for the ride…Karyn Spengler

Well, I had to make an appearance on the 1 yr anniversary….well, good job! It has been a pleasure to see this unfold from the beginning.

Qotd: well, in my wine world I must say that through the how and the site I have expanded my knowledge immensely because of exposure to wines that I would not have otherwise come into contact with. My palate is a lot stronger as well thanks to a couple of experiments and your notes about wines that I would reference while drinking suggested selections. My cellar is nicely stocked as well…

      thanks gary

      QOTD:
Last year I loved wine. Now I know WHY I love wine.
Last year a tasting note was mumbo jumbo. Now I know what worm heads, girls’ locker room, and black fruit smell & taste like.
Last year I thought I was being cheap or just missing out because I couldn’t spend a fortune on wine. Now I know that great wine is NOT price dependant.
Last year I was a Bears fan. This year I’m STILL A BEARS FAN!!!
A day without Gary VAY-NER-CHUCK is a day without sunshine!!
Congratulations on your aniversary! The distributers may not appreciate you, but we do!!!!!

Gary and the Gang at Wine Library!

Congrats, on the first year anniversay of wine library t.v. I think it is great the way your are changing the way people learn and talk about wine. I want to thank you personally because I know that I have learned alot about wine and discovered new wines due to your webcast. Two of my personal favorite steals that you introduced me to were Pillar Box Red and Las Rocas Garnacha. Both of these wines were great juice for the price… Everyone loves a good deal. I have a question of the day for you all, how much of a difference does the shape and type of glass you are drinking from make in the taste of your vino??? Big Deal or Balderdash? One other note I want to mention is that I am in California and I ordered a few bottles from you, which arrived quickly, safely and were quite yummy! And with free shipping as well… That is high quality service. So keep up the great work guys! Continued Success to you and the show is the next and many years to come.

I agree with what the others have said here, about personal changes over the past year. A year ago, I think I had one bottle of wine in the house. It was probably old and cooked, probably a gift from someone who came over to the house a year earlier.

Today, I have a modest collection of 41 bottles, try new bottles regularly each week, track my tasting notes and collection on manageyourcellar.com (easier to use than cellartracker). I also watch WLTV, read other wine sites and blogs. I maintain my own little wine blog at http://www.tagworld.com/brian1970 (just a collection of links and my own beginner experiences). I subscribe to Wine Spectator. I’m in the middle of a wine book (Windows on the World Complete Wine Course). I’ve reached out to a couple winery mailing lists (so far, Plumpjack and Cayuse). I’m going wine tasting next weekend with my wife. I have sets of Riedel bordeaux, chard, and syrah glasses. I’ve learned to use a rabbit. I use a decanter that I found on sale at Gelsons. I hang out at wine stores here in Los Angeles, including spending too much time at the wine rack when I go to Costco. In short, I’m becoming a mini-wine geek. After 6 months, I don’t know squat yet. I’m just beginning to identify the smells and tastes, and have fun with it like Gary V does. But I’m learning as much as I can, because I love it.

Hi Gary, you’re in London and I’m currently in Geneva, Switzerland. Small world. As for your QOTD, I would have to say is that the biggest difference in MY wine world is that I am much more open to trying more varietals and to experience new tastes. Yesterday evening at dinner, the restaurant had a nice Cahors in the carte du vin, so we tried it since I remembered your episode on Cahors a while back and I had never tried it before. It was a really nice, in fact some in our group said it was better than the Brunello di Montalcino that we had the previously evening at dinner. I doubt I would have dared to try such a wine in a restaurant before the WLTV experience. Thanks!

QOTD: The difference is I had blinds on my Window a year ago. GV and WLTV obliterated the blinds and now the Window to the Wine World (WWW for short) is open and I can see clearly now.

      Sue Z.

Gary and the entire WL team,
As many have said before me, thank you for exposing me to so much more of the wine world than I would have been able or willing to experience on my own! I believe your mission statement at the beginning of this journey was to get folks to try and experience as many different wines as possible and I’m glad I bought in on that. At this point, I have tried so many new wines that my cellar has quadrupled!!! I also feel that although I may never have the $$$$ to try some of the cult Calli cabs or the vintage of the millenium bordeauxes, by watching you night after night I have tasted them vicariously through you. On a side note, I can die happy now that I’ve had the von Hovel & the Casa Emma. (Maybe I’ll wait until after I’ve tried a few of the ‘05 bordeaux futures) Cheers to you all VaynerNation:) Keep up the good, hard work GV, it’s appreciated more than you know!!!!

      Congrats and Happy Anniversary!
QOTD: A year ago, when I wanted a really nice bottle of wine, I would always resort to a Chateuneuf de Pape. Now I go to WL Forum and check out WLTV tasting notes for something new and/or different. :-)

Congrats on the one year. Wish I could say I was with you from the start. After watching my first episode in Oct., I haven’t missed a one. It really makes my day. A year ago I was mainly a CA wine only type–you have really made me want to go out and explore. What fun. Getting my t-shirt today to be a southern billboard for WLTV. I grew up with English grandparents and “love” the tea experience. Enjoy London

Gary, Tea Library TV, sweet! Wine and tea my only beverages (besides aqua). I’ve learned a lot this year from WLTV, my excellent local wine shop and fellow winos,,, er wine aficionados. I love experiencing a new wine varietal or blend. You’ve definitely opened my taste buds to malbecs, Spanish wines and Vacyeres (sp?) to name a few. Keep up the great work.
      Peace brother…

Congrats on 1 year, i think that’s great. Changes for me include buying more wine with an eye to the distant future and the adoption of a collector mentality vs a pure consumer mentality, less effort to balance consumption with purchasing, and a sense of place among a wine-loving community – something i never had before. Also a greater willingness to spend a bitr more per bottle. Thanks for that – all of it.

No Gary, thank you! Happy Anniversary to you and the whole WL crew.

      JOEYdaMUSH

After all the craziness and rebelliousness of the year, I thought today’s 1 year anniversary was pure class. WELL DONE GARY.

The #1 difference in my wine world is this – a year ago today I didn’t even drink or have any knowledge of wine whatsoever. All I knew was that my family drank it during dinner (and not even good stuff at that). Wine intimidated the hell out of me but watching your show has truly enlightened me, not only about wine but also the wine world, making of, ordering of…just everything having to do with this wonderful juice. I can actually hold a decent conversation about wine and hopefully soon I’ll finally be able to do some tasting notes and such, and articulate why I like a certain wine. The show has been like a free wine class and I’d like to say THANK YOU.

QOTD: I have tasted quite a few “rated” wines this year and come to the conclusion that ratings are right for me just as often as they are wrong – I guess I will just have to drink some more, to find my favourites for myself…gee, what a pitty!

Happy Anniversary!!.. from a Vayniac who’s been watching WLTV from the get-go and been purchasing from WL since October 2004. My first order was a mixed case of California wines; 7 chards and 5 cabs…my last WL order included 3 Australian white meritage, 2 Australian shiraz, 2 Riojas, 3 Italian reds and 2 Los Carneros Merlots. Big difference. I have Gary V, WLTV, my fellow Vayniacs and the forums to thank for helping me to expand my wine drinking horizons. Thank you all!!
Great Idea….”T” Shirts and “TEA” tasting.
QOD: My “wine-life” has changed considerably since I’ve been a student at WLU. I’ve learned why I stay away from certain low dollar wines. I knew I didn’t really like them, but I couldn’t tell you why. Now I can. I’ve learned about and tasted world wines. All I ever had before WLTV were the typical grocery store American wines. My palate thanks you and my bank account is…..

Fantizzy! Biggest change is that I know wine comes from grapes and not purple paint; however dissappointing that realization is. Also, now that I have earned my green belt in “Wine Tay Su Ting” I feel more confident than ever. It was only last week when I stopped a robbery of an old lady by a one armed man. I couldn’t have done it without you Senor Gary. I flew into Super Vaninjyac Death Pose 4 and disarmed the one armed bandit Mondavi style (but DEFINATELY not JETS style…that would have gotten me and the old lady killed). My wife and family are so proud of me. It was the raddest, you should have been there to see it. I can’t wait until I’m a green belt with a stripe!!!

      Congrats GaryV. WLTV rocks.

Just want to recap a few things: Winery & distrubutor backlash?! Whoa Nellie! I’d love to hear more scoop on this…?

t-shirts: as flavasauce says, consider girly styles. I have so many boy t’s from being in the tech industry it ain’t funny and they is UGLY. I still wear the rare girly ones I’ve gotten and I’d love to fly my Vayniac flag ;-)

Patt: WWW = Window to the Wine World. Effing brilliant!

OK, so I’ve not watched ALL eps yet, but I’ve yet to hear you use the descriptor “merde” for a wine, particularly a french wine… it’s one I’ve used, freely and often!

QOTD: WLTV has already changed me, even after just a couple of weeks. Decanting for a proper amount of time, not just 5-10 minutes; and the descriptors… worm heads!! It’s given me valuable buying advice, indeed!
