WOW TS finally get’s his wish.. Invalidate his code just to mess with him.. hehehe Alone, he’ll probably gonna cost you $500.

Pitty I can’t take advantage either because I pick up too, but give me a hunk of cheese tho and I’ll be happy!

Good luck with the Jets free agency!

Free shipping is enough to bring me out of lurkerland!

    Marc

Awesome, free shipping. Out here in Iowa we can’t get most of the stuff on the show so I’m pumped.

QOTD: None, really. Then again, only been drinking wine for a year and a half.

I have never(knowingly) sampled jug wine of any sort, chablis, etc. In the college days (1980’s)I worked in a restaurant in Montecito, CA, and all the well-heeled women at the time ordered “Chablis” for cocktail hour. It’s kind of funny how the trend changed to chardonnay along the way…

When dining at french restaurants in SF I usually look to the Chablis offerings because they typically offer better value and more food friendly wines. Hopefully the prices won’t go up now that WLTV let the cat out of the bag!

    Free Agency

    Mike S.

My dad drank Chablis, albeit the Carlo Rossi jug ilk. Fortunately, that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the good stuff myself. In fact, the only white wine I really drink. And I don’t copping the looks from other people for that, either!!

  28. March 1, 2007

    A

I have never purchased jug Chablis.

However, I have tasted some. I liked the show on real Chablis, because it has always been one of favored whites.

  29. March 1, 2007

    Ken

Good episode. I’ve always not liked a ton of oak in my Chards and these wines are well suited for my palate. As an even less expensive alternative to the Chablis, there are some pretty decent Maconnais wines out there that are very crisp and clean tasting. So, is FREE AGENCY the code? Hopefully some of those Rieslings I missed out on last time will be in stock.

I can’t make any recommendations for the Jets because I am an unfortunate Browns fan – hopefully they’ll make some key pickups.

I’ll be looking for some Chablis after this. Thanks for the shipping Gary.

Jets recommendations – well, it sounds like they are going to waive or trace Ramsey, so they will be looking for a backup QB in the near future….

But, who cares now, it’s Baseball season! GO CUBS!!!!

I confess. Had lots of jug Chablis at parties including Gallo and Italian Swiss (Swill) Colony Chablis but I always stock a few Chablis at home. Thanks for the tips on these. Can always use more and I will order with the free shipping.

  36. March 1, 2007

    mbannon

Does it have to be a quality comment to get the free shipping? ‘Cuz I’m all tapped out.

QOD – Don’t think I’ve ever had a jug “chablis” although I’ve added some to my homemade wines to lend them a bit of “grapiness.” As for REAL Chablis, I love the stuff. Prices do seem to be creeping up, although maybe it’s just the strong Euro?

Another comment, when you smell the wine you get aromas. I know,—– you knew that.

  42. March 1, 2007

    Brad

Jugs of Chablis? Hah- straight up Almaden, box style…countless college headaches.
I’m obviously more interested in Big Blue’s free agency over the little green gumby monsters; we’ll need a baby Tiki number 2, an offensive line that doesn’t net 10 false start penalties per game and a an entirely new secondary that doesn’t get injured every other game.
NY football has it’s work cut out for them.

    Great episode!
Did I hear you try and compare Chalk Hill, Ferrari-Carano, and Fair Niente chardonnays to a night a Medieval Times? Hilarious.

  49. March 1, 2007

    Michael Goldfine

    Dear Gary,

Thank you for educating me about Chablis. And I am only commenting just in case you were serious about it being necessary for free shipping. What sucks is I live in PA and can’t have it shipped here anyway. I love the education.

    Cheers,

QOTD: Never had the big jug wine, I’ve seen it though, and it always looked like what it sounds like: a pig dressed up with a French name.

I would look for maybe a second running back. Jamal Lewis maybe? Although I hope he looks at the Lions, since Kevin Jones might be out for a while, and even then I think that would be a nice two-back system, although they are pretty similar.

long time lurker (well since the wine.woot.com episode that led me here) QOTD – i think it was 2 barrels of chablis, of course i couldnt lift my head off the pillow the next day so the number is a bit groggy. i picked up my shirt on the anniv show and now time for the 1st vino order. Thanks for the energy you put into the shows. it brings life and color into a usually dull day.

I don’t remember having any wine in a jug. But back when I was much younger, and didn’t appreciate wine yet, I was at a party that had wine in the box. I think I drank almost a whole box. Needless to say I didn’t drink wine for a long time after that.

I have NEVER had a California Chablis. Well, OK. I was 19 and my mom had a box of it in the fridge- and how can you judge the amount of wine in a 50 gallon box? Awful stuff.

Nice episode, Gary. The more I watch the more I realize what I don’t know about wine. I did not know that Chablis was Chardonnay!! Thanks for the free shipping. Now, I need to find a cubby hole for another 12 bottle styrofoam wine cellar. I think I’ll get some more San Felipe Malbec and try a few Chianti Classicos.

I’m old enough to have drunk plenty of jug chablis. But many years ago, don’t remember the vintage, a Drouhin Les Grenouilles got me hooked on the real thing. One or two bottles in the cellar now. Really should add a few more.

I have enjoyed many petit chablis and premier cru chablis though. Much better than the over oaked california chards IMHO.

    Gary:

Great episode – I lvoe Chablis – especially Boucard, Verget and LaRoche.
I have NEVER bought California JUG Chablis…but did buy a 750 ml bottle (not a jug) of Mirassou “Chablis” 1976 when I visited the winery in 1978. Talk about a memory! Back then Mirassou was a big deal and I think that wine, even though labeled Chablis, was not “low Brow”.

THanks for the free shipping to California!

Very informative episode. I bet the “window of opportunity” on these wines is less than what you are predicting.

Nice reviews Gary – I’ve really been enjoy your show; just found it a few days ago.

I’ll admit I never (knowingly) had the California “Chablis” … I did have a 2002 La Chablisienne Mont de Milieu last year that really opened my eyes to these wines. I think Pouilly-Fuisse also can provide some good QPRs.

I guess I missed out on the free shipping, I think my first order shipped this morning!

Can someone point me to a guide to grape varieties, regions, and the like? I’m totally confused now about chardonnay, chablis, bordeaux – which is a region, which is a grape…

I don’t recall ever buying a jug or box.. but I’m almost certain I’ve partaken…

  105. March 1, 2007

    YoungDave

Ok- that’s it- I’m posting from now on, no matter what. I have said that I’m a 21-year-old stuent and restaurant Server/Bartender in Boston, and have gotten into wine over the past 2 years (in part thanks to Gary!) I was so happy with all of the responses on the “introduce yourself” page and the encouragement to post even if I can only do so at about 1AM after work each night, around the 100 post mark. Well, that doesn’t matter, because I watch EVERY episode, am almost caught up on all of the ones I missed before I became an official “Vayniac” (yes, I have my shirt to prove it), and I’m going to post this far down all the time from now on!
That being said, thank you Gary for another enjoyable and informative episode- Chablis deffinitely has a bad name in the U.S. thanks to Mr. Rossi, and I’ll try to seek out an affordable (real) Chablis before we (with a miniscule bit of of Gary) change the Wine World too much and everyone finds out about these values. THANKS AGAIN, BIG G.!

QOTD: I’ve never EVER purchased a US jug Chablis, but I tasted Mr. Rossi’s effort at a friend’s house party once instead of the crappy keg beer there (I guess there are worse things than jug wine!) Basically, it was like Welch’s grape juice (which I like) with way too much acidity and noticeable alcohol (…which I don’t like).

QOTD: 8-10 if Almaden makes fake Chablis. Oh to be young and uninformed again, I can only dream. C’est la vie.

To be honest with you, as for the JETS I don’t know who would be the best fit. Thats a quandry which needs much discussion over many glasses of red burgundy, the most thought provoking of all wines. I am available for counsel when needed. Cheers.

First time posting. Thanks for the Chablis episode. I had a Bessin Chablis tonight with some Mahi Mahi and it was perfect. Also, thanks for the free shipping. Some tasty Cote du Rhones are coming my way shortly.

QotD – My parents always had 3 jugs when I was growing up. “Chablis” (white), “Burgundy” (red) and gin. At 5:00 the evening wind-down began with a dry martini… or 2, while they played a game of cribbage and vented about their day at work. Then my dad would ask mom, “honey – do you want red or white with dinner??” and the appropriate JUG would come to the table. Until a few years ago – I thought chablis and burgundy were the names of 2 grapes -a green grape and a purple grape! Needless to say – I never personally tasted the wine, I just remember my mom always had that “smell” (cheap jug wine!) when she tucked me in to bed!

They still have the jug-o-gin, they’ve progressed to BOX “chablis” (yikes! – but it saves me money when they visit me because they bring their own in a cooler!) – but the system has served them well as they are happily celebrating their 5oth anniversary this summer. Maybe the tons of jug wine helped them make it?!…

  124. March 1, 2007

When are you gonna bring it to Seattle…This town has great WA state wines and can always use another party…

  125. March 1, 2007

    Trish da' Dish

I’ve never had a jug wine. Perhaps this is because I never drank in high school and just once in college (But boy did I drink that 1 time! I weighed 103 lbs and drank a 1/2 pint of Bacardi Dark in about 2 hrs….I’m VERY sure that I almost Darwinized myself that night :-) Anyway, after that the taste of alcohol made me nauseous for several years, then I got married and had kids and my life was on hold—but now I’m cured! I love beer and wine! But now there are no jug wines to be found. Right? At least, none that I’ve seen. I tend to go to the wine store vs the grocery store unless there is something very specific to buy that I’ve already had. Plus it has to be on sale…

  126. March 1, 2007

Thanks for the heads up on chablis — will try. Never been into jug wine.

    G,
    You’re the man!
Thank you for the tremendous, tremendous, tremendous, tremendous, tremendous, tremendous, tremendous free shipping episode.
QOTD: I swear I have never had any jug Chablis…..Chianti maybe…at Buca de Bebo in Old Town Pasadena.

  128. March 1, 2007

    Lil Luce

Woh- ho- ho! Very excited for my upcoming shopping spree!!!! Thanks Gary & all at WL! I can tell you that my order will include the Grossot, thanks to today’s show.

QOTD: I grew up in the south, so I cannot quantify the amount of Jug o’ Chablis I have had in my lifetime. It must be lots. In fact, I think I must have had an entire jug to myself during a friend’s wedding in Alabama in the early ’90’s. At least, that is how my head felt the next day.

Sadly, I cannot do any NFL predictions. I love football, but I am a girl devoted to college ball.

    Thanks again, Gary!

As long as the Jets don’t pick up Brett Farve or any important defensive players from the Packers, they can get whomever they want. Pacman Jones might be available. He might be a good replacement for Jumbo Elliot, who is sorely missed. It’s tough to find players nowadays who can urinate into a sink effectively. Pacman has the potential to do that effectively.

QOTD: Never had a Chablis. . . anything in a jug means I should be drinking the macro-brew instead. Besides, the big jugs are too much work the lift and pour.

  131. March 1, 2007

    Douglas

Hi Gary! Thanks for the free shipping, we are looking forward to it here in Chicago!

Unfortunately, most of the posts today so far have been along the lines of YEAH! FREE SHIPPING! GARY ROCKS!

There hasn’t been much real diagogue today in the episode forum. So I would like to ask a question that would start a nice online conversation. But before that, I would like to submit an editorial comment:

    YEAH! FREE SHIPPING! GARY ROCKS!

Now for my question: For those of you who have drunk the real Chablis (or claim to have) for awhile now, let me ask you, how well do you think these wines age compared to other Burgundy Chards?

  132. March 1, 2007

    DrewG

It has nothing to do with the free shipping offer. I don’t even know about it. Just felt like temporarily unlurking. That’s all.

  133. March 1, 2007

    stevek1510

great show as usual….QOTD…no jugs for me

No NFL predictions….too emotionally involved with College Basketball and the fact that my Wichita State Shockers suck this year

  137. March 1, 2007

    Slick

Damn you Vaynerchuk! I admonished you after the Riesling episode, now you let the masses know the Chablis secret. How low will you stoop? But I suppose the free shipping will appease me (hmmm, what to order?) The Knights of Columbus comment was a classic Vayner-bloop (being a Knight I never recall the feast you mentioned, a pinochle game with some hopped beverages and hot dogs, but never a 30 course feast!) Peace brother.

I started watching WLTV about two weeks ago. My wife have watched almost all the episodes now. We love it. Everyday when I get home from work, we check to see if there is a new episode.

Just ordered some wine from winelibrary for the first time with free shipping.

Looks like between wine.woot.com and winelibrary, I am going to go broke.

I couldn’t sleep and my compuyer was screwing up so I got it running and voila! Free shipping!

Now I have a reason to go to work tomorrow to whip up a few bottles.

QOTD: I remember years ago going to a party that had some boxed Chablis but thankfully, have never had the inkling to buy a gallon or box. I will buy some of the “real thing.”

Great show and good luck to the Jets in “free agency.” Jerry Porter is available!!

    Cheers and thanks

  143. March 1, 2007

I don’t think I have ever had a Chablis, let alone a jug of it… So, thanks for introducing me to yet another region that I didn’t know about. Oh, and the free shipping, that’s also good. :)

Thanks for the free shipping. I’ll be trying 3 of the 4 you showed today. I brought a great Corton to my son’s house for dinner. He tucked it away and served me Chablis from a BOX in his fridge. I think it was Franzia. Some days its harder to love your children that other days. Jerry the 2THDR

Great episode, thanks for the free shipping! It’s nice to see Chablis’ name being restored in the public marketplace, hopefully it doesn’t send their prices through the roof. I had a recent vintage of the Droin (’04 I believe) and it was excellent, had a distinctive flavor but also paired excellently with the scallops I was eating.

QOTD: Lots of jugs, but all Chiantis.

  153. March 2, 2007

    Corrado

QOTD: never stooped to jug o’ wine. Box o’ wine, yes. Jug o’ wine, no.

I would love the Jets to get a guy like Brandon Stokley, but they’ll probably end up with more of a ‘twilight’ reciever like Moulds.

  158. March 2, 2007

QOTD: Not too much Cha-Bliss experience here. Perhaps 1 jug that I don’t remember.

Thank you for your generosity, Wine Guy! I just ordered a case and a half. I finally got some of the Nalle Zin and Clone 5 that I have been eyeballin’ for a while. I also ordered a bunch of friends to keep them company during their trip out to Cali.

Say, the Mighty Vikes just released Brad Johnson. Whaddaya say the Jets pick him up and release Chad P. so that we can grab him? Sounds fair to me.

    Go Vikes. Please.

Yours in green, I mean purple, envy,

Jets will sign Joey Porter and NY will be in an uproar, especially after he pops off his mouth all the time. Go Steelers and Pats!!!

  163. March 2, 2007

QOTD: None. I have to admit that I haven’t tried chablis yet. But I plan to remedy that soon! Thanks!

Great episode, and a huge thank you for the shipping! You are such a pushover.

  165. March 2, 2007

By the way, I drank tons of Almaden “Chablis” in my college days. It was mostly chenin blanc, and the nearest thing (in price) to everyday generic white wines of Europe, but nothing like the real thing. I first tried real Chablis in France in the early 80s.

  166. March 2, 2007

    Mike

No jug Chablis for me, GV. I didn’t discover wine till late in life. I was beer and coctail drinker primarily in college.

Thanks for the freebie, Gary. I will be buying the middle two Chablis you reviewed with this order along with a couple of Wolf Traps and a Mabileau Bourgeuil St. Nicolas ‘05 and an Aries Los Carneros Merlot ‘01.

    Thank you very much!

Definitely going to seek out some Chablis!
QOTD- Never purchased jug wine. My parents however (back in the day) used to buy Lancers Rose in that funky little terra cotta bottle (’lil jug). I’m happy to report they have evolved since then.

Thanks, Gary. Free shipping is enough to lure me out of Lurkersville. Not too many wine choices at the local one stop out here in the wild west. Thanks for the opportunity to try new stuff and for the great education.

  177. March 2, 2007

    damon

    gotta love it!!

No jug chablis here. Haven’t had much of the real stuff either. I promise, I will try some soon.

Hey, can you describe what a mature premiere or grand cru chablis is like?

    thanks for the gift GV!!!!!
    time to go shopping.

Great episode on Chablis. You make it all so interesting. If I’ve ever had the chablis that comes in the jug or box, maybe I have and I don’t remember. Maybe in a pizzeria. But not that I went out and bought it. I just took my “Free Agency” ride. THANKS SO MUCH! :-D

great!! chablis my very favorite!! NEVER had a jug chaabbliss am happy to say.

  181. March 2, 2007

    Dude Man

Jets can go Yankees during free agency but will still be second to the Pats. Sorry, but that is the truth. At least there will be jugs and of course bottles of Chablis around to comfort all, on those miserable Sundays. Great episode. I love free shipping.

  182. March 2, 2007

    wildebeest

Jeez! I almost had a heart attack when I watched the show at about 2:30 a.m., I was so worried that I’d missed the free shipping. Thanks for giving us an extra day!!!

QOTD: My introduction to wine was Carlo Rossi Burgundy & Sangria. That’s about all I drank for a whole summer. There’s a large Basque population where I live, as well as a yearly Basque Festival (the largest outside of Spain, I’m told), which kicks off with the biggest party of the year. The Basqos mix Carlo with Coke and call it a kalimotxo. …I guess it all starts w/ binge drinking.

  183. March 2, 2007

    Bill

Cute tricks Gary! Never had a single sip – nada – of any of those bulk flaggon-style “chablis”, but I did have some nice chablis by complete accident in Paris a few years ago, so this was a timely reminder!!

  184. March 2, 2007

    GregL

    Gary,
Just stopped by the store yesterday,no need for free shipping, the store is gorgeous but there was some kind of foul odor floating around . Any reason ? maybe the cheese section had an incident ? Didn’t stop me from buying 5 bottles though.
Love the store and the show keep up the good work!

  185. March 2, 2007

    wildebeest

…I forgot to metion the bota bags. My college friends and I would go to the festival armed with a full bota over each shoulder. I’m convinced that there’s no faster way to get obliterated.

  186. March 2, 2007

    Joe Po

Thanks, Gary. Did not know that Chablis is Chardonnay. Since I’m a PA whiner, I’ll just have to visit again for some authentic Chablis( sorry, no jugs in white, just the Hearty Burgundy).

  187. March 2, 2007

    yowens44

Cant say I have jug chablis or actually any chablis for that matter. But will buy a bottle today to broaden the herizons a bit. Thanks for the episode.

  188. March 2, 2007

Thank you for the chablis episode I learned a lot. Even though I missed spelled chablis earlier in my first post.

  189. March 2, 2007

    Carlitos

Thanks for the free shipping, Gary!

We love Chablis and agree that it’s still one of those few wines that are undervalued out there. Yep, we love that minerality and liveliness you just can’t find in Cali Chard.

QOTD. I have NEVER bought a jug of chablis, though I have “tasted” it in a few open bar situations where that was all they had. Yeah! Great party!

  190. March 2, 2007

    JOEinLA

Grat Episode. I’m too excited right now with the Free Shipping to fiugre it all out. Late to work cuz I’m working on my order!

I went for the Grossot Chablis and it’s already sold out…

I’ll manage to find something ;)

    Put me down for Frisco.

Could the JETS use Joey Porter?Joe Horn?

  191. March 2, 2007

    Adam B

Never had jug chablis dude, sorry. I did enjoy a lovely jug of hearty burgundy, however, with the goal of making myself a change jar (that I’ve used for 8 years). You should definitely make the Chicago party over the weekend April 14-15, because I’ll be flying up from Omaha to take the Intro. Sommelier Class — I mention the class because it means there will be at least 79 other wine geeks there to take part in the party. Great episode, Gary. Could you do something on the smaller appellations of the Languedoc — Corbieres and Faugeres?

  192. March 2, 2007

Thank you thank you thank you. I don’t know if you’re serious about leaving a comment to get the free shipping, but just in case…

QOTD: Only had burgundy jugs, no chablis. Free shipping on those too?

  199. March 2, 2007

    Big Billy from Big D

Chablis from jugs, and later from boxes. As long as I was drinking and not tasting it was passable.

I have been “off” Chardonnay for several years, but recently a friend brought a white Burgundy to share that showed me that I’m not really an “ABC” person (Anything BUT Chardonnay). With that bottle and today’s episode I want to explore more Burgundian possibilities.

    Thanks for the Free Shipping.

QOTD: Can honestly say I have never had jug chablis in my life and plan to keep it that way.

So who are the Jets after in free agency??? Hmmmmm……maybe Joey Porter now that he has been released. They could really use Nate Clements but I don’t think they will pony up the $$$$ to pay him. I can also see them pursuing an interior OLineman…Steinbach or Dielman maybe.

  201. March 2, 2007

    Tony S.

All’s I’m saying is Lance Briggs BETTER stay in Chicago!! At least the Bears took care of Lovie Smith though.

QOD: I’ve been fortunate enough to have never tried any of that big jug wine. No wait, I did try the “Burgundy” one once, and it tasted like Kool-Aid and alcohol.

    OK…I’ll see you later!

    GO BEARS!!!!

Never tried a Chablis jug wine…never seemed particularly tempting! Glad you are going to do a SF party, especially since public transportation is very good to take after a wine party….and I live near a major BART (SF subway system) station..

Excellent show today. So much more interesting than reading dry wine reviews that don’t really say anything to me. Later today I plan to jump into a vat of bee-ridden honey and split an oak log today, then eat at Medieval Times! Wahoo!

Great show Gary V. Loved the Duty Roads flashback. One of my best friends in H.S. was kicked out of his history class for standing on the desk and impersonating THE AMERICAN DREAM.

QOTD: I admit it, I have had several (5 or 6) jugs of chablis and/or burgundy.

The JETS- Hey maybe they can pick up Drew Bledsoe on the cheap since the Cowboys have released him.

Enjoyed the episode,Last year on Jeopardy they had a question “which one of theese is not a variety of grape” and chablis was on there. I enjoy chablis more than chardonnay because of the minerality and less oak than Ca. chards.
Now don’t get down on Steeler fans! Maybe the Jets will go after Joey Porter?

  211. March 2, 2007

    Top 215….Yeah! :)

Anyway… I love cooking with chablis. I make my wife a baked Salmon dish in which chablis is used as a baster so to say. Comes out awsome, and I hate Salmon. I usually go for the sword fish or tuna, or it available chillean sea bass.

Rhodes looks attractive to in the FA market. J….E…T…S, Jets, Jets, Jets!

Do you listen to graperadio.com? Thanks for the hook-up, Son! Umm, never had chablis. Bought some Macon, but never chablis. My sis and I argued a few years back…she was saying chablis was a red wine?! I guess they were a while back, but…ah, oh well, guess we were both right. Sorry ’bout the tangent. Thanks ‘gin.

    Hey Gary!

I’ve got to admit, I’m more excited about Spring Training for MLB starting than free agency. Go Cardinals!!!

QoTd: When I was ten or eleven I sneaked a sip of big jug Rossi Chablis, and almost ralphed. That taught me in more ways than one!

Jugs and botas at Mardi Gras – that’s good times. Got sick once on chablis and haven’t been back – maybe it’s time to try it again. Thanks

    Robin M.

    Hey Gary:
I love Chablis. We lived in England for 3 years and I would buy Tesco Chablis and make salmon and risotto. I also had that prejudice against Chablis until I moved to England and drank it all the time. You taught me something I didn’t know, I didn’t know it was a Chardonnay grape. After we moved back to Chicago, I started buying nice Chablis here and have a few in the cellar.

QOTD: Don’t remember, but I am sure I have drunk wine from the big jug at, for example, company outings.

    Thanks for the great episode.

  239. March 2, 2007

Ravens released Hartwell…I like BThomas, but picking up Edge would allow BT to stay on the line…stay away from the litney of RBs out there – I LOVE what Denver does. Trades away good but used RBs for other areas of need. RB is the easiest position to fill, especailly on draft day.

BTW – we need another Port episode. 1 in 200 or so is a travesty…and you should incorporate 1 cheese episode / week. It’s really not that hard.

Your lucky the Bills look to be dealing Clements. He’s a blanket. Just noticed you guys sealed the 2007 season with releasing Ramsey – just run Pennington over with the team bus and save you fans the agony.

Do you have your draft day disgust ready? BBBBOOOOOOOO!!!

Oh yeah. QOD – better number from my mom. Hundreds of jugs (wine, that is).

Hey Gary! Its funny you mentioned “Carlo Rossi”..never heard of it before today..and today I heard it twice! Was out to lunch at a local BYO place and didnt think to BMO (Bring My Own) since it was lunchtime..the nice owner must have felt bad for me and gave me a glass of Carlo Rossi jug Burgundy. He didnt tell me the name at first, and I thought it wasnt a bad table wine…so I asked. I probably wouldnt buy it, but it was a nice freebie at lunch!

  251. March 2, 2007

Jug Wine? Love it, at least I did when I was in high school and pre-dance I would sneak a glass (or two or three). Jugs are SOO big nobody notices a missing glass. Gotta love it.

    Great Episode Gary
QOTD Yes…have tasted Jug and Boxed Chablis, because we have friends who invite us to dinner and those are the only QPR wines they keep to serve. Needless to say, we usually bring a bottle of wine to open and share…but they are adamant that they are not going to spend money on good wine. Too bad for them, but that means the rest of us who DO buy more expensive wines will have more to go around.

    Hey Gary,

I’ll go ahead and send you an e-mail with this info as well. I contacted the Director of the NOWFE with regards to having you come down as press and do some videos that offer a little promotional content to the event. It would be great if you could make an announcement about the NOWFE on one of the upcoming shows. So, I’m still awaiting her reply, but she’s a really cool person and I think it should work out. So, are we going to have a New Orleans party when you’re down here? I’ve got many great bottles that I’m sure would love to be opened. I’ll be more than happy to coordinate the get together if it works out. The sooner I can get started, though, the better it will be. I really hope you can make it down. It’ll be a great time. Talk to you soon.

QOTD: Of course… what else do they serve at church functions!!!

Gary, you’re forgetting your roots. All the free shipping deals doesn’t do squat for the people that have been trekking for years to your store from the tri-state area. Even though I live in NYC, I rather pick up my order at WL and check out what’s on the floor that intrigues me. How about a bone for pickup orders?

  265. March 3, 2007

    Badger Ann

QOTD: I may have had jug chablis unknowingly in sangria at some party, but I can honestly say I’ve never bought it. Out of all the styles of white burgundy, chablis is my favorite, and for all the reasons you stated.

Just got back from vacation in Florida, away from a good broad band connection. I missed out on the free shipping – boo hoo!

  266. March 3, 2007

  267. March 3, 2007

    Where people go on Winelibrary.com:

    calendar.winelibrary.com – 6%
    labels.winelibrary.com – 4%

Anyway, same here with Chablis: often underrated, but often also justly downrated … there is still a huge lot of junk Chab on the market over here.
Try Vocoret Père et Fils one time. My favourite: very minerally, terroir-driven, zesty and crisp. Even the crus still have that minerality apparent. Sometimes the crus of others go to buttery, toffee-style to me.
