    Listen Big Guy,

I’ve given you some fabuloso suggestions (um, Albarinos anybody?).
I give and I give, but still you want more.

    OK, ready?

You’ve got a great team there on the floor of WL. There’s at least a full baseball team roster – POSTSEASON. (that’s 40 – not 25) kicking ass for us simple folk. Great people all of them… so let’s see what they’ve got. Go down and ask 4 or 5 of your staff for their suggestion of the best sub-30 or sub-20 dollar bottle of wine to match a certain meal.

Maybe it’s you, maybe someone anonymous – give them each the same menu – roast pork and parsnips, t-bone steak and asparagus, whatever – ask for their recommendation. You can tell them they’re all in running for GV’s seal of awesomeness or some such nonsense.

Maybe the winner gets a wristband

QOTD – How about good QPR from the Rhone? or Portugal? or Eastern Europe? Or another blinded tasting and let Eric pick them (say less than $20)?

Someone recharged his batteries over the weekend! Welcome back!

    Show tomorrow: 2004 white burgs.

Yeah Gary! Fun episode. Lots of good suggestions. I agree with Arneis: it’s a fun wine, and great for summer.

Agree with Comment 52 by Stewart: petite syrah can offer great value and flavor while removing all your tooth enamel. Why not compare a couple of the super values to the heavy hitters like Turley or Rosenblum’s stunning Rockpile?

Oh, hey, since you’re really busy, here’s a possible line-up from WL:

    Bogle (60570; $10–sometimes a solid value buy along with…)
Concannon Limited Release (9674; $11–again, can be a great value in certain years)
Earthquake (9068; $23–awarded best red of the entire S.F. Chronical wine competition; over-rated?)
Carver Sutro (30312; $40–never had it but Parker obviously likes it)

Will eventually be buying the Rutherglen…thanks for the show.

A number of years ago a friend served fruit wine not made from grapes. The wine was from Virginia. Don’t think this is a tomorrow episode, but if we’re really after changing the wine world why not do something unconventional.

If you do Virginia whites as mentioned, may I suggest the Williamsburg Winery Acte 12 Chardonnay.

Or how about Cal-Ital? Recently I was impressed by the 2002 Monte Volpe Sangiovese (from Mendocino). It came in at only $15 “bones” and was surprisingly good.

QOTD: How about some pinotage? I’ve had three in my lifetime: One stunk to high hell, one was extra-average, and the other was one of the best wines I’ve ever had. And you’ve never done a Pinotage!

Gary, I enjoy the good inexpensive wines and your thoughts on them.

QOTD: How about an episode on Orvieto wines?

QOD: Gary, I sent you an email re: doing a show on Bret-infected wines. Those “horsey”, “barnyardy” old-school cabs and Bordeauxs that dad would drink with a filet and a cigar in the early 70’s. Finding new wines in this style has become a sport for me…love ‘em.

Love the dentist reference on the Denis Dutron Macon. The only thing missing in the Denis is the 2 “T’s”!!! :D
    QOTD: Sparklers! Love the Sparklers!!

oh oh, I see what is happening. Your website does not like the (less than) sign since I said I do not care about less than $10 wines or ugly labels.

    A third time:

QOTD: I have three options: 1) VIRGINIA whites esp Horton Viognier; 2) South African wines which has been mentioned and 3) Dominus vertical, i.e. ‘87, ‘88 and ‘89.

    Cheers!

… what happened? Cut off my response.

    Anyway, I said . . . not that I care about

Wowwwww, as you always do, you come through in the clutch and give the Vayniacs what they ask for. Not that I care about

    Gary,

QTD – How about tasting the wines from Kilikanoon? All have good scores and reasonably priced.

QOTD: Non-Pinot Grigio Italian whites–Falanghina, Fiano, Grillo, Ribolla Gialla, Vermentino, Verdicchio, Inzolia, whatever floats your bottega!

    Dave Canada

Nice one Gary, hope you were watching last night as the Raps beat your Knicks…I almost got on the court and killed Francis when he closeline dmy boy Parker.
QOTD – I agree with spautz in comment #62. It’d be cool to see you do a vertical tasting with 4 or five wines. Don’t think you have tried that yet.

QOTD — why not try something on value Bordeaux futures.

    Enjoyed the episode today.

Another great show! QOTD Head to head between CA zin and Italian primitivo. $15-20

Watching notes: Great episode. Irreverant, clever, and charismatic without forcing it. Very easygoing. I give it a 93.

QOTD: I’d like to see the 2002 Domaine Nizas Cotes Du Languedoc (WLcode# 31174). It would also be great to see an episode on changing palates sometime. What I mean is that you could do an ep composed of nothing but wines you’ve already tasted on WLTV, and see what you think of them this time around. It might sound like a waste of time, but it might be fun to explore how different the palate can be from day to day. Besides, if you did such an episode you could at least have one ep in which you wouldn’t have to score anything (because they’ve already been scored). You could just see how the tasting notes change.

QOD = Cheeseburger wines! How about it?? or how about the long awaited Sake episode??

Good show today. I love the value driven episodes
