My father – He always pulls out some 1980’s Germans or a 1982 or 1990 Bordeaux on a special night and I always laugh when the sticker is still on the bottle and he paid something like $17.99 and now they are going for $120 bones.. Crazy!!!

cool episode, i’m a npr newbie and I like the enthusiasm! I also like seeing and hearing about wines that i can actually afford (under $30); anything above that it is like pr0n – they would be really cool to try, but ain’t no way I’m gonna be doing that bottle or blonde.

Great ep. Love those old world wines. QOTD: My favorite person to drink wine with is my wife, suerad. She’s a great cook so having a nose for wine seems to be natural to her. We also love to share our love for wine with our best friends, David and Nancy, who are our advance scouts for New York City restaurant scene. And then there’s Chet…

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TAMARA!!!
That loving tribute from your Sonny-Boy is the best birthday card you could get.

QOTD: It’s a short list, with my wife at the top: someone who’s discerning, someone who’s fun, someone who really likes to be with me.

My favorite person to drink wine with is my buddy Phil. He is a lawyer in town, italian descent, makes his own wine. Has a great wine cellar and many unique wines, usually of tremendous value. Best blind taster of wines that I know! Last night he served a Chilean Pinot Noir 2005 for ten bucks that was a great buy!

Hey Gary. Great QOTD. My answer in my Bro -in- Law Ray. This guy has been drinking wine for about 2 years only but he has the most refined Palate of anyone in my wine circle. He is a very easy going person who “Stops to smell the Roses”. What a great guy! This has allowed him to be so respectful of the old world flavors. His palate learns faster than anyone I know. You speak so much of being open minded an I swear this is the key to the very next experience in wine. What a blast to have glass of great wine with someone who really gets it!

I didn’t find the perfect partner… actually , he found me.
Before meeting Claudio, my ‘winelife’ almost didn’t exist.
Right now, we are drinking our wine nº 94. :)
Thanks, babe, for introducing me to this wonderful world.

    Gar,
QOTD : My brother in law/friend Doug . He got me into wine and got me to taste it rather then just gulp it down. I am forever in his debt!

I have been holding some 2000 Bordeaux, but now I realize that it’s time to actually drink some.

QOTD: My lurker wife of course! Wine makes her so damn happy.

You seemed to move pretty quickly today. Normally that seems like it would have taken 20 minutes. Good job on squeezing it into 15!

    QOTD: definitely my dad.

Gary- The stuff around the pie filling is goo. I’d also like to pass on a Happy Birthday your Mom, who is really the mom of all Vayniacs. So Cheers Mom!

QOTD- Tim, who has a lot of wine and is fun to drink it with, and all the Vayniacs at the Chicago party, with a special shout to BDB and LP. Let’s do it again.

    Happy Birthday Ma Vay-ner-chuk!

If the measure of a person is how much joy you’ve brought to the world you done good gal!

Gary is a bright light in a sea of fog (even if his passion on football teams exceeds his common sense)

P.S. – don’t let him see this, for fear he’ll become more humility-challenged.

‘fess up,did you break many wooden spoons over his noggin growin’ up?

Bordeaux has ALWAYS been one of my favorites.

QOTD: Easy…right now, my favorite person to drink wine with is Hugh. It doesn’t happen often but when it does I tell him he has an impressive palette …and he believes me!!!! hahahaha ; )

QOTD: My girlfriend C-dog and my buddy ‘enzo. Our palattes more or less lie on the same spectrum, but we’re each sensitive to different parts of it.

Speaking of eating grasshopers, any of you ever eat a cooked silk worm? They’re popcorn buttery, not unlike some chardonnays (if chardonnay was a giant slug cultivated for human consumption).

The thunder was brought today, Gary. Great ep. I love how you always announce that big news is coming, but you never tell us the news. :) Reminds me of that old joke: How do you keep an idiot in suspense for 24 hours?

My brother Patrick at our family get-togethers. He brings the Barolo and I bring the Bordeaux. Life is very, very good:-)

    G,
Great shout out to your mom.
It seems (although we have not met) she raised a great guy.
QOTD: Brian…a good friend of mine I will see in Cali next weekend.
Just a good soul and anything we drink together tastes better.
