    Welcome back! We missed you.
I’ve been reading about Riojas. I haven’t had that many, but I really enjoyed the few that I’ve had.

QOTD: Since I’ve never really had an expensive wine, I think that I’d like to taste a 96+ expensive wine, old world, new world, I don’t think I’d quibble about that, and then a comparable 96+ wine that is more affordable (if there is such a thing) and compare the two. BUT…the 96+ rating would have to be according to GV, the only one who hasn’t steered me wrong yet!

Cool that you could even find an ‘81 white to drink! Never saw that before … I’m a fan of Lopez de Heredia Riojas – I like the fact they don’t release until they feel the wine is ready. Old school …

QOTD: http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=11532 I’m ready to pull the trigger but would love to know what you think …

    Welcome back Sensei!

Rioja is very special to Mrs. Grasshopper and me. We were married in the Rioja room at Meson Sabika in Naperville Illinois (Spanish Tapas) and we Honeymooned in Spain. We love Rioja wines and they have a very sentimental place in our hearts!!!….

QOTD; 2002 Contador Rioja is a wine I have wanted to taste. It was rated a 96 by Parker and is very limited production.

QOTD: I would like to see one day a Rayas ‘90: http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=31445 or maybe just a good Cornas or Côte-Rotie.

    Glad you’re back, Gary.

QOTD: Any 100 point wine. (Just to see what people are talking about) Never bought one, never had one. Especially P-O’ed that I did not buy some 2001 Rieussec when it was more available. Guess I may just have to bite the bullet spend what it takes for a bottle now.

thanks for returning with those Riojas. QOTD : Remirez de Ganuza Rioja Alavesa 1998 Reserva. though i tried this once already last spring at a dinner in Granada, Spain it is the wine that pushed me over the top and i fell in love with Riojas. I’ve since had the ‘99 and ‘00 but would love to try another of the ‘98.

    cheers and welcome back.

QOTD: I got to taste some really good wines at the Whole Foods in Fairfax VA. I had a Carneros Kistler Chardonnay and 2001 Camigliano Brunello. They have this enomatic wine dispensers where you get an ounce taste for $7.

If I could taste one wine and money was not a consideration it would be the 2001 Gaja Costa Russi.

I could justify it if I get a much better job than I anticipate after getting my degree, or if I will be getting my tongue removed and I need to enjoy flavor before the event.

    Welcome back Gary!

    QOTD:

One wine that I’ve been wanting to try more of is Sauternes. After having a tiny tasting of this kind of wine for the first time ever at the Chicago party last month, I’ve been interested in trying it again. TimF brought the ‘01 Chateau Guiraud to the Chicago party, and I’m interested to see how the ‘99 is, since it is on the WL website and looks like a good deal!

Great to see you back GV!

Good comeback show GV! Rioja rocks!!
I tasted the white Tondonia 1981 last month!! and I loved it! Vayniacs, I agree with GV that this wine is not for everybody but I think what I said might scare too many people! This bottle is very, very nice! I great to taste a white wine that is this old and still holds! honestly, not as scary as “eating live frog hearts” like G said! I gave it a 91+ and the winemakers at the tasting thought it was the white wine of the weekend!
Also tried Torre Muga 2004, which was a stunner too… Just amazing juice, everything Gary said… Rated it 92+.

QOTD: GV, how about a little northern Rhone? Didn’t you promise a Guigal’s La La wine episode a long time ago? Keep on rocking!

PS: What is th big annoucement about? I’m scared….

QOTD: Would love to taste any vintage Dominus, perhaps http://winelibrary.com/search.asp?Vint=&size=%5B+all+%5D&sDept=&search=dominus
I am one of those Europeans who can get really excited about good napa reds. Unfortunately (college kid), pricey ones are way beyond my possibilities.

Nice episode, I think that I might just have a bottle of Rioja this evening.

QOTD: I think you should treat yourself to a fine bottle of 2003 Chateau Leoville Poyferre (#23266) and tell us if it is really as good as some have said.

  23. May 21, 2007

    Good to have you back!

QOTD: How about a Columbia Crest Two Vines shootout…all of the varietals in one episode. For my money, some of the best under $7.00 wines out there!

    Gary,
Welcome back. Great show. Nice range of $$$ on the wines. I am looking forward to opening a bottle of the Chateau Angelus I ordered presale. Plan on this as the 50th birthday present to myself in 4 years. If I can hold out that long!!!

BTW, cork’d is a blast. I’m telling all my friends about it!
