Great episode. I’m a fan of Albarino. Had my first bottle with grilled lobster….yummm

I discovered Albariño a few years ago and it has fast replaced my old friend Pinot Grigio as my hot summer with seafood wine of choice.

Nice ep. Funny, I had just opened a bottle of Nora da Neve 2005, the somewhat more high end cuvee. Zingy, lot of structure (awful lot), falvours of cumquat, passion fruit and lime, great, cross between riesling, viognier and bouboulenc. Love it.

Nice switch from the usual white suspects~

    QOTD from Jen

….2003 Beaujolais Nouveau in Paris. 7:00 in the morning, thanksgiving week, my first time in Paris, off the plane and my hotel wasn’t ready for me. I dropped my bags there and walked until I stumbled across an outdoors Farmer’s Market setting up for the Saturday Morning. All French farmers. After several minutes of me mumbling and stumbling around it, a 23 year old English speaking French girl took me under her wing and brought me to each vendor, introducing me. By the end of the row of vendors, I was eating a freshly made, steaming hot… Ham and Cheese Crepe… ( REAL Ham and REAL French cheese). 8 am in the 40 degree weather with my new girl of my dreams. Suddenly the Beaujolais Nouveau arrives by truck since it was the third weekend in November (remember?). The old farmers were partying, filling my plastic cup, dinking and beaming toothles smiles and lot’s of bottles. Me, loving the crepe, the smell of the market in the cold air, Paris waking up……and that beautifully thin delicious perfect wine washing it all down!

One of the best experiences in my lifetime.

Excellent episode. To be honest, these are the types of episodes I love on WLTV – featuring a slightly different varietal (not the common 5 reds and whites) or wine region. Most excellent, my friend. But wait! No QOTD? Oh, I see Jen asked one earlier in the comment list. Okay, let’s see, a wine that brought tears to my eyes – the Gruet sparkling wine that we used for the toast at my wedding. And it wasn’t because of the quality or lack thereof of the wine. ;-)

Agh…first time posting here, I thought I would try to come in and type Vaynerchuk backwards, but I see I was beat to it by the posee. In any case, I started watching this a short while ago, I am about ten episodes in and I know that is nothing compared to the entire archive you have here, but I have to say I am loving the show. I am new to wines to, so I really do not know squat, needless to say I am getting schooled here real nicely…

i’ve had them before. You used to carry one by Bürgans (I think that was the label) that I liked there for a while.

nice job on the getting the HD camera, you can definitely tell. Now can you just do something about your ilghting? I’ll even help you set it up, but really, the lighting isn’t the best (to pick-nits!)

Interesting stuff there, Gary! I’ll see if any of our shops here have any Albarino; it sounds great!

    Another great ep, Yrag Kuhcrenyav.
With reference to Bossman’s number crunching post above: I think GV’s might be counting down to when WLTV goes High-Def.

Hi all! Most of the albarinos I’ve had so far are very good. Many of the ones I prefer are aged ’sur lie’ where they tend to have a fuller body and more intense flavors. Try the Do Zoe Albarino ‘05 and ‘06. The 05 is a little smokey with apricot and peach flavors. To me, the ‘06 doen’t have the smokiness and it has more peach flavors with apricot accents.

How about some more value wines G? One $12 bottle is ok but if I still lived at home with my parents like you do I could afford those $20 bottles.

That was interesting to learn that Albarino is one of the grapes used to make Vihno Verde. I’ve had a Vihno Verde and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the wine store I get most of my wine from is currently out! :(

Here’s a link for the 411 on Albarino:

I’ll have to pick up an Albarino and try it.

QOTD: How do the rest of us order a picle wine T-shirt?

I know little about any other wines other than Spanish, mostly in deference to my mother being Spanish. I have been drinking albarinos here and over there for the better part of 10 years, and they have always been priced higher than other whites. Perhaps they truly are rising now more than before, but I actually think that the Nora is still one of the lowest priced albarinos that I have seen in a long, long time.

That’s amazing, because I also like to eat lemons whole. I also like my fresh squeezed lemonade absolutely sweetener free! Good stuff. Now if you could find a wine that tastes like a tom collins…

Nice episode, always looking to try wines I never have had.

    dude

Gary, you’re killin’ me. Between Rioja the other day, Bordeaux this weekend and now albarino! Man, forget traveling, I’m going to have to spend the cashflow on drinking some serious wines. Nice episode, I will have to seek out some of those wines at the local bodega here in Espana. Keep it comin’ man, although, where is the QOTD?

Like the Nora OK, but I love the Pazo de Senorans, and have for years. I can’t agree with your conclusion. This is a terrific white wine which blows away all those NZ Sauv Blancs and even some Chablis. It’s also a favorite among guests and at a tasting of 20 wine enthusiasts last year. Great complexity, meatiness and food-friendliness. I thought the 92 was a bit on the high side, but this is an outstanding bottle of wine. I am sad that the price broke the $15 barrier.

    Gary,
What’s up with the price of these Albarino’s? Seems like just yesterday they were selling at the $10 – $12 price point. These prices plus some of the inflated scores I’ve seen lately smells like cat pee. In general, I have been supportive of your stewardship of the Wine Library’s customers and our best interests, but ……. something here is amiss.

Hey G, good call on the albarino, I love that with some serrano ham and manchego cheese, serious tapas heaven. Albarino is also really good with, get this, bagel, lox and cream cheese, no joke! The store was awesome btw. It’s great to be in the NY/NJ area, I miss this weather, the LV desert sucks.
