Gary, Prentemps is Spring, not summer! Summer is L’ete.
QOTD: Like everyone else- generally they taste like s@#t.

Love those T-Shirts….tell me you ship to Canada!!!
QOTD – I was in the Languadoc last year and fell in love with some of these wines but have been underwhelmed by some of the crap rose that is coming out of Ontario….I need to look elsewhere as we just don’t get enough of these through our Licqour control board.

Excellent episode but you illustrated why I often shy away from Rose. 3 out of the 4 you tasted were passzzzesssz. I’ve been burned by too many bad roses. When its good, its lovely and I really enjoy it, but I never know what to buy. Even decent ratings for Roses seem to be a bad barometer – Look at Jay Miller’s praise for one that you rejected. (By the way, Jay Miller is great but I fear he is too enthusiastic. I never agree with every critic, but I’ve recently stumbled on too much desparity from Miller and I’m starting to not trust in his ratings. Gary V, Parker, Tanzer and Wine Spectator are true and true. I mean that sincerely. I think those 4 are the only ones I can still trust.

Anyway, thanks again for finding a good Rose in the bunch. I’ll try it for sure. I’m not afraid of the pink, I’m just afraid of wasting money on bad wine.

PS…BANFI’S ROSA REGALE is the bomb!! That’s the best pink I’ve ever tasted on the planet. It is sooooooo good and delicious and refreshing and ocean breeze, raspberry and roses that I could drink it everyday like water. With only 7% alcohol, you almost could.

QOTD: Nothing! Rosé isn’t my favorite wine, but it’s great for the summer and ever since I had a 100% Cab. Franc Rosé I became a believer.

Gary , we have always loved the pink stuff.. Found wine by drinking Glen Ellen white zinfadel and went there on our honeymoon. We found in Napa & Sonoma the world of wine. Thank you for the great ROSE …..

    Cheers,,

    QOD:

Didn’t you already say it? A-R-O-M-A-T-I-C-S

No really. Rose is ok. Speaking of pink wines, isn’t it about time the Champagne boy does some pink bubbly? That’s right I’m calling you out.

QOD: the fact that you didn’t do this show a few months ago before it got too hot to ship so I could grab some of that Copain for the summer … picked up a bunch last year and they were somewhat hit or miss–one of them even had Tannat in it! But the Chateau Guiot was definitely a keeper–creamy strawberry nose but still honestly dry. Something for everyone.

Tipcee: slightly chilled and you should be fine.

Great episode! love dry rose. Became unafraid about 2 years ago visiting Santa Monica Ca. sitting in The Lobster on Ocean Ave overlooking the pacific and the pier my brother inlaw ordered a bottle of Comander Parysal(butchered the spelling)just great with their signature dish a 2.5 lb olive oil marinated grilled lobster been hooked since. Nothing better for summer drinking.

I’ve had some really nice rose in the past, need to revisit it again this summer. I know they are different wines completely, but I LOOOOve a Rose Champagne!!!

thanks for the enthusiastic review of Copain. i just bought 3 of them to try them out thru the summer.

So I’ve always enjoyed the pink stuff, but more so in the sparkling world. I feel rose sparkling wine adds another level of complexity to this already great genre.

I have some pinks the cellar and will be sure to open a couple this summer.

    No holding back here.

Too bad the Spanish rosé wasn’t a winner. I’m really liking the Spanish wines I’ve had recently (a great 2002 Viña Real Crianza last night!) Does anyone have a recommendation for an enjoyable Spanish rosé?

QOTD: What makes me leary of rosé is the fear that I’ll taste something like white Zinfandel :( I had a Malbec rosé lately that was dry and delicious. If I could find more like that I’d be happy!

Kathleen, please thank your soldier friend for all of us. If not for the soldiers who have served in the past and present, we wouldn’t enjoy the freedom we do.

Great episode. BTW “printemps” means spring not summer.

Nothing the last one I tried however was not good at all, and have had to shy away as the money is tight. Riesling is just a better bet these days, but I will give it another chance this weekend.

It’s friday and no couch. Anyway interesting episode. Have great memorial day weekend
QOTD- I am not afraid of the pink, I have had a white merlot on several occasions( can’t remember the particulars) but it was cheap and fun.

Thanx for the alternative summer white/red. Just wish you had found or tasted a few more that appealed to you….maybe do an ep. that’s top heavy with rated 88’s and upward???? QOTD….remember Mateus rose’, many a bottle went down in the 60’s and 70’s….afraid to say it was probably the last time I had one…will try the Copain…

QOD.You said it yourself. They just dont “bring it”.With all the great alsace, albarino,pg, nz sb,loire. Why bother? It’s like everyone is trying to atone for wz.Who cares if a shameless sweet wine is what rose means to 99% of the wine drinking public? Has Roger Godell gotten ahold of the wine media and forced everyone to make good on this decades old travesty.Every wine publication and media outlet seems to be shoving this “new concept” of pink wine down my throat! I’ve had a fair share of rosee and my conclusion is much like this episode. One out of several are decent.VERY hit & miss.My fear of rose is “why is it being so heavily promoted lately”.Wharehouses full of the stuff?Wineries looking to make some $$ off of run off? All said ,I will try and find the Copain!!

QOTD: no holding back… I have a rose on occasion…. as long as it’s dry i’ll give it a try.

This was definitely an episode filled with ups and downs, man. I was pretty excited during your intro to discover Rosé, then completely let down by the first few wines you tasted, then brought back up again by your excitement over the final wine. Looks like I might need to get myself a bottle of Copain for this weekend and showcase the pink proudly.

A(nswer)otD: Dude!?! What holds me back? It’s pink!!! I can’t drink that and be taken seriously! Or can I?

Ep 226? Just guessing here. I do remember the cherry/venison reference.

QOTD: California Rose I have enjoyed: Cuvaison Vin Gris, Flora Springs Rosato & Lazy Creek to name a few and a whole bunch of French ones whose names I can’t recall in the 9.00 to 12.00 price range. Nothing wrong with Rose on a hot summer day. Nothing wrong with Blanc De Noir sparkiling either.

    Sensei,

Have a great time in LA, who will play you in the movie? Would be great QOTD and would bring some interesting answers…..maybe a young howie mandel, when he still had hair…:)

True, am little afraid of the pink and it does come from the white zins my Mom always drank out of a box! Promise to try a dry one but I agree with others…you have to do better than hit 25% with the pinks. You might have to do another episode and find us a couple more winners. 1 out of the 4 was not great…

Hope everybody has a great holiday weekend…pop the cork on a nice bottle and toast our fallen soldiers!! We are Lucky!

Thanks for this episode! allthough I will probably not be able to get the Copain Le Printemps anywhere in The Netherlands ;-)
