QOTD: I’m with Trish da Dish…every once in awhile you may come across a nice crisp dry Rose…and then maybe forget about the 10 before that that were junk.

I think that’s why Spectator and Parker and now GV’s reviews are so welcome…because you’re not “flying blind” anymore. At least SOMEOne had the wine and threw some opinion in to the mix….

I’ll take Northern italian whites any day for summer..Alto Adige…!

I’m not exactly “skeered” of the pink…what often holds me back is what you just illustrated on your show. The pink, for me, is riskier on the wallet than the red and the white. I don’t buy Roses unless I’ve tried them, or someone who I trust has. Even if a lot of Roses are affordably priced, I am just too cheap to fly blind and risk repeatedly throwing out 3/4 bottles (like you essentially just did, G-Man!

I’m afraid of rose wines because many years ago when I first started drinking wine I was given a really tasty rose that came in a really big bottle and it made me physically ill, not just for 10 or 15 minutes, but for hours. It happened twice and now I approach rose with extreme caution.

Just coming to your defense here GV, but some were writing in their comments about how you don’t pronounce French words properly. But in doing so they spelled PRONUNCIATION wrong 2 times. Maybe that’s like the pot calling the kettle black!

QOTD: I am a bit scared of the pink. At a restaurant I would guess people would think I was drinking white zin, so no way. But at home I would probably have enjoyed that last one you tasted.

What, no Tavel? And Provence?
‘Printemps’ means springtime, ‘ete’ is summer, BTW. (I have to figure out how to add accents.) And Spanish Roses, I’ve heard they are often blends of white and red wines. Wouldn’t doubt Las Rocas does this.

What holds me back is I don’t have a ton of money so when I go buy something, I usually stick to what I know because i hate dropping 20 or 30 bucks on a bottle of something and not even being able to drink it. I’ve seen a pink sangiovese around that really intrigues me. I think i’ll have to go get it this weekend. Thanks for trying to get all of us to expand our horizons. I wish you would’ve gotten into what a rose wine is. How it’s made differently from reds and whites. I think alot less people would be leary of them if they knew they where made from the grape varieties that they already drink.

How can anyone be afraid of pink? I like the Kosta Browne Pinot Rose. Nice. And let’s not know the white zinfandel. Yes it is sweet and tastes like strawberry cotton candy – but it is a way to introduce people to wine beyond wine boxes or sangria or wine coolers.
QOTD – Very few GOOD pink wines make it to the shelves near me. Tavel? faggetabout it. The only pink I ever see is candied mass produced stuff. Or high end (did someone say Expen$ive) Champagne.

Long overdue and awaited episode. In fact, do another one on rose. There are so many; many of them tight on the nose. They pair great with asparagus (and mayo or blue cheese dressing), and/or artichokes. Pair well with most salads in fact. Pairs well with lobster. Gary, don’t take long before doing another episode on rose.

QOTD: What’s been holding me back is the whole idea that rose is a “pink girlie wine,” and I’m not that kinda girl. But hey, rose got a huge article in Wine Spectator, and now Gary’s telling me not to fear the rose, I’m gonna give it a whirl.

QOTD: Not afraid of the pink. As a matter of fact the Pink Panther was my favorite cartoon character! Banfi Rose Regale – absolutely marvelous.

PS: GV you need to make a trip down New Orleans way since I see you like to travel. It will definitely expand your palate with Cajun food!

Here’s my $.04 worth.

3 passzzzez out of 4, and you’re wondering why we as a collective group are afraid of the pink? If excitement to the pink is to found out there, then stack the lineup on a show with rose that you’ve liked before. Also, rose is not so easy to find, especially in the barren wine markets of Maine. Up here it seems that half the shelf space is devoted to jugs and boxes. The vendors that actually stock quality wines are few and far between, and the selection is limited due to the few consumers up here too. Sigh. I’m moving to Springfield, NJ. I’m almost willing to bet that the population of your county is close to the entire population of the State of Maine.

A good presentation nonetheless. However, I am still afraid of the pink.
