I tasted this wine last week and couldn’t agree with you more. I liked it, but it really came up short. BTW, couldn’t place the mustard, but I think you’re right, still not sure. Definitely a strange combo of mellon and something….good, crips pretty clean, but not 90+

qotd – stick figures and geometric shapes. cant do anything else.

QOTD: Weird, abstract doodles. Sometimes curvy lines, sometimes jagged, depending on my mood I guess. But nothing ever took real form.

Ah, Pinot Gris, probably my favorite white wine. To me, most Pinot Gris have a tootie-fruity like aroma, almost like bubble gum. And that leads me to the QOTD:

When I was a kid I drew cartoon-like monsters in school, imitating some pictures on bubble gum collecting cards, available back in the mid-60s, that featured comical fantasy monsters. Wonder if that is why I like the bouquet of Pinot Gris now ??

    No longer a lurker am I !!!!!!!

Love the show. I put it on my iPod and watch it during the commute on the way home. It gets me in the mood to try something in my cellar.

Keep up the good work, a little bit of everyone really adds up.

    89 = prime!

No Alsace? First PG I ever had, long ago, was a Zind-Humbrecht from Alsace which was, indeed, crisp acidic and light … and then I cracked open the very same bottle several years later and wonderful things had happened.

QOD: bah, I can’t draw. But that’s why the Xerox machine is our friend.

    QOTD: I drew mushrooms…

Did any of you ever waste an entire pad of paper drawing a stick man walking across the bottom edge of the paper?

Here’s a request. There’s a bunch of cheap ($6) Romanian wines available here in Estonia. The brand name is “Dreamer”. And for $6, they’re pretty good. In fact, the Dreamer Premiere Harvest Pinot Noir is the only pinot noir you’ll find at a regular supermarket here. That’s also *the* wine that made me appreciate wines in the first place. (I have a 2003 bottle on my shelf here right now.)

So if you could do an episode on the Dreamer brand of wines, or just Romanian wines in general, that would be great. I’d love to see what you think of them.

Almost forgot, we also got pretty good at drawing a hand with the middle finger extended. Did anyone else or everyone else do this?

I join the protest against the fact that Alsace was not represented in the tasting!! Although I must say I never thought PG could be “crisp, acidic and light” when for me it is a fuller bodied, honeyed and rich wine… My most memorable bottle was Zind Humbrecht Herrenweg de Turckheim 1997, awesome stuff!!

    QOTD: Golf course layouts!

Thanks for Pinot Gris ep, more great info Gary. Congrats on the ABC bit also That is so freakin funny I laugh just thinking about it. You are the real deal!
QOTD:I used to be part of a 6th grade AM paperboy delivery “gang” and once drew a series of bicycle stunts and tricks we used to pull or imagined doing. My teacher busted me for that so I switched to “an island in the ocean with a palm tree on it”. By the way, what did you draw?

  16. June 1, 2007

I drew rainbows in kindergarten. They mean nothing to me now though.

Gary, you didn’t taste any butter in the Pinot Gris?

QOTD: horses, me riding horses, horses against landscapes (yes, I was a pony-crazed little girl). Then I went through my cubist period and everything became abstract and angular. :)

Good episode, Gary. I’m glad you taped a bunch for us, so we don’t have to go for too long without a fun review!

QOTD: loved to doodle, usually did faces and dogs, plus the “see-through cube”

Hmmmm…not too excited to try a lot of pinot gris if acidity is a big player.

i always just drew lines and circles and shapes that intersected. i can’t draw actual ‘things’ for the life of me.

I use to write my name backwards…and one time I wrote a whole letter to my girlfriend..she cheated though held it up to a mirror!!!
pass on the Pinot Gris….thanks for the info!

    Pinot Gris…pazzzz.
QOTD: Pre-Vietnam war baby boomers thought military planes and tanks were cool. These drawing endured until early teens when all we drew were cars.

SF Party Rocked!!! Kudos to Brandon and Ken for coordinating. GV a lot of girls came up to me and said they thought you were better looking in person than on the screen. Or did they say I was better looking? Can’t remember.

Thanks for the PGris show Gary, bring on the Alsace (and the Marsanne please)!
QOTD: my name on my desk ( kind of stupid as it’s hard to plead innocence)

PS for Karl Laczko: we were, as you say, robbed but looked more like a team (and that was without Rooney!)

QTOD: I drew the old skool thanksgiving turkey using my hand as a template… oh yeah!

QOTD: Anotomically correct body parts. ;-)

QOTD: Portraits of Jerry Garcia. His art shows up in galleries, on ties and even bottles of wine from Clos Du Bois, he is a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor and oh, yeh, was a pretty good musician too.
