From my understanding, pinot blanc is a derivation of pinot gris (which itself is derived from pinot noir) – is this right? I had a pretty decent Alsatian pinot blanc the other day – not spectacular, but very pleasing. Very banana-ish on the nose. Classic grass/grapefruit/melonish. Good mouthfeel, evident alcohol content but the fruitiness balanced things out really well.

And as a super-late answer to the QOD – PIRATE SHIPS AND NINJA TURTLES, duh.

Pinot Gris is my new love. Thanks for this episode. Tonight I tried the Schoffit 2004 Tokay Pinot Gris Colmar – from Alsace. Very beautiful! Had it with hot dogs with the works.

quick question while I’m still watching this episode: Is it my imagination, or do I see more screw caps on pinot gris and sauvignon blanc than on other varietals? Why have these two seemed to overcome the stigma easier than others?
