I prefer the way you have been doing it. I like the spontaneity of your response to tasting the wines which would clearly be lost if you have recently tried them.

Dude, you are killing me on the oak comments…Trevor Jones ‘virgin’ has no friggin’ oak, settle down my woodland friend!

QOTD: I prefer the way you do it now. Watching your immediate reaction to the wines you taste is part of the education and enjoyment of WLTV.

Good show. I feel exactly the same way about the Sarah’s – almost undrinkable for me.

    Gary,

I like the current format but am always open to new ideas. My 2 cents for the day!

Wow, what a ton of letters. Keep Gary happy everyone. I like the mix it up format for the most part and like to hear about new wines most of the time. I would occasionally like reviews of restaurant wine list wines because these are rarely ones that I buy and I eat out often enough at restaurants I have never been to to want to get some idea of what not to waste money on in a restaurant. I’m with Gary here on the fake CA, OZ, South American, and occaasional Spanish wines that are so over the top that they don’t taste at all like the grape they are made from or have no bearing on the region they’re from. I don’t think this divides Old World and New World just terroir or not. If you make a wine that is nothing more than a chemistry experiment is that wine or some other type of beverage resembling wine?

QOTD: I think I’m on the side of the fence where you keep the current format but I might have like one foot dangling over the other side. So that said if you occasionally brought in something that you’ve tasted that you would drink and shared it with that would be sweet too.

    Hope the trip is great!

QOTD: I like the format of your show now, however I love when you did the sampler pack shows and would like to be apart of the next one.

great program! I’m officially hooked; my sommelier at work turned me on to you. Very cool and fun!

I hate Garnacha. But, I love Gary. Unknowingly, he’s been hosting many of my wine-tasting parties (via YouTube simulcast). I hope he doesn’t get mad.

    Keep the same format, however….
    perhaps introduce:
“My Wine Library Wednesdays” ….where on Wed’s we can expect to hear from you about wines you personally have tasted the past week….maybe use the current 4 bottle format….with an an additional 2 bottles at the end of the video…you don’t have to taste them, but keep the bottle for presentation and briefly tell us about it. I think it’s important to also add whether or not is is available to purchase and at what price. This will also boost your viewership in the middle of the week…hump Wed so to speak.

As usual a fun and informative show…I’m running out to find the Silverado. But why the Sofitel plug? There are better places in L.A. to stay.
QOTD: either one is fine. I love the stand up “Belorussian” comic aspect of surprise and why not offer up suggestions? As long as it’s not just to empty the warehouse. This is just my opinion (my Humble Opinion) but I would like to know in advance what you will be tasting. Have fun in Bella Italia!

I think you it’s cool if you mix it up – though I’d rather see you go in cold and try wines you haven’t had before. Would also be fun if you did an episode of wines that have blown you away and wanted to recommend and share? How’s that for lying on the top of the fence?

Question for you: Do you look at the Parker, Spectator, WE, ratings and descriptions before you taste the wines on WLTV?

  15. June 5, 2007

    cumpari

QOTD: Leave it alone. Everyone once in while a recommendation is OK. Too much of that can threaten WLTV becoming a program that more about sales and adverts than exploration. I prefer the latter.

    Have fun!

QOTD: Don’t change a thing. I have little reason to watch a 15-20 minute video when I already know the outcome. The unexpected highs and lows are what make this format entertaining. Besides, I find that “passes” are more beneficial than a positive recommendation. With the addition of your cork’d reviews on the side I think we get enough of a feel for what you are drinking and what you like.

Yet another video with wines that my current wine shop does not offer. Sucks.

Current approach works – because us, with a lot of you are changing the wine world!!!

    QOTD:
    keep mixing it up gary.

you have def had some nice eps where you have featured things you have tried before.

My favorite eps are when you focus on a region/varietal/theme, and not the 90 point themed eps. I have also liked the episodes where you feature wines with huge disparities in their scores between two major critics.

    Keep up the great work!

Have a great time in Venice and drink some good prosecco.

QOTD. Just keep doing it the way you want to. That way you’e always interested and happy about the episode, and that’s an important factor to keep you doing it. And keep drinking all sorts of wines from obscure regions made from strange grapes. Yay for diversity.

    jason carey

drink wines you have never had,, if you are going to just reccommend wines you have tasted, that ruins the fun and suprise that you have when you taste them for the first time. That is what makes the show good, the suprise …

    Gary, ‘you da man’

I’ll definitely seek out the Silverado, even though i’m an old world man . . .

Answer to the Question: I like your format, but maybe like three wines a week or one every other day throw in something you know and love with the new ones.

  23. June 5, 2007

    Justin S

My .02; Thank God for the rain in south GA!

QOTD: How about 3 wines you’ve never tasted along with 1 recommendation, then everyone will be happy.

  24. June 5, 2007

    camanoman

Current format is great, but it wouldn’t hurt to throw in an episode once in a while highlighting your favorites. You have worlds of experience, old and new, that is, and I for one would like to see what Gary considers his favorites once in a while. Just don’t get carried away with yourself!
