    QOTD,
I enjoy the current format other than when you go on vacation and feel obligated to tape twelve shows in one day…guilt raises its ugly head. Perhaps you could just do a one or two wines/show. Also I love the wine and cheese pairing episodes…but what’s with this watching your cholesterol thing anyway…we’re mammals if we don’t consume it we produce it…right

QOD: As is dude. I like to see wines that aren’t great too. There have been many times you tasted wines I was interested in and you panned them. I also like to see your natural reaction and the enthusiams you have when you make a new find. PLEASE keep the format the same

I like the idea of the occasional blind test…

QOTD: Definitely keep the format as is. I think that if you go into tastings with a lot of pre-conceived notions about the outcome, it’s going to cloud your judgement and ruin the spontanaeity of the show. I love it when you a genuinely surprised by a wine.

You already have a pretty good track record of mixing things up. When you do a theme-based show perhaps you could highlight one wine that you feel truly represents the theme in an outstanding way. The basic format of the show however should stay the same – that is constantly shifting focus all around the wine world so we can change all of it.

Keep it the way it is…..BUT
Maybe add some extra BLIND tastings,
Every couple months have a week of GUESTS,, winemakers, Vayniacs????
Selfishly….. I just want to be able to come home at night and before bed, sit and watch a little WLTV,,, learn something and be entertained,,, Is that ASKING all that much?????
Hope you are having a great trip,,,, I’m off to another exotic land, like you….. CANADA!!! in pursuit of Wally Walleye!

QOTD: I love the show as it is, however, I can also see value in dedicating something like an episode per week towards recommendations (maybe based on requested themes). This would provide a useful service to viewers looking to buy wines.

Oh, and by the way, why have all of the “Gary V’s picks” on the main page become nothing but premium priced wines (averaging almost $50 per bottle). Come on throw some value priced bones!

Big G. Love the episode. I’m looking forward to that Silverado Merlot. QOTD. Do not, Do not, change a thing about the show I love. The Show brings the thunder just the way it is. The people who write to will just have to match up their tastes with yours and then they will know if they will enjoy a Wine that you recommend.
    Keep Killing it Big G.

Why not mix it up a bit? It might not be bad to have an episode now and then of “Gary’s Picks”.

Oh yeah – the place where pre-tasting might come in handy is when you have guests from a winery. If you don’t know what you’re getting and you taste a real clunker, you might not want to embarrass your guests by being brutally honest. I will reiterate a suggestion that I remember from someone else that the way around this would be to taste all of the potential offerings from that winery and only re-taste those that you truly liked on the show. That way, you don’t have to be tough on your guests and we get to see the wines you really believe to be worth the effort.

    Gary,
keep the show as you are doing it, but every now and then throw in an episode of recommended value wines.

    Have a good trip!

QOTD – keep doing what you are doing. I like the unrehearsed aspect of it. It is like sitting down in a friend’s kitchen and tasting wine together without knowing what to expect.

    Welcome back, Gary, kalimera.

QOTD: Fresh tastings, element of surprise, that’s the ticket. More than that… please please do some BLIND TASTING on WLTV. Eric will cover up the bottles and you’ll have to taste them, then uncover at the end. I always fall off on the adventure side of the fence (once I started climbing).

Now and then do a pair-off, more competitive. Like, “old world Merlot” versus “New World Merlot” or orginal French Rhone blend versus “New World Rhone blend”. Or $12 Aussie Shirazs against $12 American Shiraz (North or South)… and do that in blind tasting. Oh, Vayniacs, this will take us to episode 1000, easy.

    Hey Gary V
Hope Venice is rockin’, I will be there later this month after I visit the Piemonte region.

QOTD: Keep the show as is, especially now that you are hooked up with cork’d, we can see your drinking ratings that way as long as you keep it up to date.

I’m on the fence… I would love to hear some of your favorites and recommendations, but the mystery- seeing your facial expressions and hearing your off-the-cuff comments when you taste a wine for the first time- is what makes this show priceless. Mix it up!

Keep the show as it is.

QOTD: Taste the things you haven’t had before, it keeps the show exciting. Every once in a while do an episide for value, then the next day change it up. You do a great job keeping the show fresh, and I’ve already learned so much.

  19. June 4, 2007

    Jon K

QOTD: Stick with status quo, but throw in something you want to share now and then.

Can’t agree with you on there being a place for wines like that Marquis Phillips. If I want 16% alcohol, I’ll drink Amarone….there is way too much shit going one (ie over extraction, 100% new oak, limited selection of grapes) for those types of wine to be enjoyable. I drink one glass and am smashed both by the alcohol and the five alive….not for me…..
QOTD – I say you mix it up Gary….sometime it would be nice for you to do a show about wine you tasted where you stick you face right up against the lense and say “BUY THIS OR YOU ARE STUPID SHIT!” Just my two cents ;)

    Dude,

Forget the laptop, forget the email, the store, the comments, Cork’d, Twizzler/Twither or whatever the heck it’s called. Relax, regenerate, revitalize and re-energize for gosh sake you’re on vacation. It isn’t going anywhere and you’re not missing anything you can’t catch up on. The taping of 12 shows was going above and bbeyond any reasonable expectation.

Threw me for a loop there, the “Sarah’s blend” link leads to Cork’d instead of the WL page, redundant in that there is a Cork’d link to the right. I like to click into WL and put wines you’ve piqued my interest in into the cart for my next purchase. No biggie this time given your take on the wine (ha ha) although I was “seeking” it out on my visit to WL on Memorial day and it wasn’t on the shelf which, in retrospect, is a good thing.

Also, you might want to reconsider the whole Winezap link on the buy it button in Cork’d. Given the value-added provided by your reviews on WLTV and Cork’d and the fact your prices are among the best anyway you don’t need to steer people to the competition. Frankly I wouldn’t mind paying a little more for all the steering to and from once one understands your palates relation to one’s own.

QOTD: Straddling the fence (doesn’t on the fence mean undecided anymore?), once every two weeks or so do a show on what struck you (good or bad) to illustrate a specific point you’re making but the rest of the time don’t change a thing from current format. If it ain’t broke….

QOTD: It would be a grave injustice to the entire wine world to change the format of the show. It is fine to change the wine world, but why tinker with what is working so well?

As always, a great informative ep.

A good mix of wines today. Always looking for labels on your shows that i can find in the barren winelands of Maine.

Nice appearance from your dad. Spontaneous. What did you do to the birds? I don’t hear them chirping in the background lately. Had a BBQ did you?

QOTD: reading the earlier comments and it’s clear that the majority want you “to keep it the same”. The way I see it, the same would be most episodes like you did for today, the occasional Friday couch, the occasional stacked lineup of prior sampled wines, the occasional guest, off site ep’s like Bordeaux and London, once a blue moon blind tastings, and so on and so on.

Sounds like a great mix to me.

Keep up the great work. We are becoming believers.
