Gary, I loved VaynerPop’s phone call. You’re blessed to still have your parents. I lost my Mom early in her life, 10 years ago, and still had a lot to learn from her.

QOD: I love the show the way it is. It might be cool if somehow, we could know in enough time what wines you are tasting, so we could get our own and taste along with you. I learned so much in Chicago from doing just that. Kind of like the WOTM on the forums.

    Gary,
Could you make similar episode with more of a old world value wines?
It is easy nowadays to pick a fruit bomb with 90 rating.

    QOTD:

Leave it the way it is now.
If you bring to the show the wines that really impressed you, pretend you taste them for the first time!

Great ep G —- Keep up the good work … Don’t change a thing. Appreciate your honesty and humor in the wine world.

Gary: I like the current format because it keeps it/YOU fresh. Maybe on Fridays you could pick grapes or regions that are not popular. I’m a big fan of Barolo’s from Piedmont and always drank red. I just broke out and tried Gavi. I also tried Erbaluce from Italy from Ferrando, which I thought was very good.

    Gary,
I loved the live call in from your dad! And you must have had him in the back of your mind, because I can’t remember ever seeing you give a wine the ‘I’m disappointed in you’ look that -my- father has down pat.
“Now, sonny, you know that fruity Hi-C punch aroma isn’t the best you can do.”
Perfect subliminal reminder to everyone to get those Father’s Day cards out!

    Gary,
I like the show like it is now, if people want to know which wines we like, they can peruse our corkd profiles!

    Here is my corkd profile:

If anyone wants to see the power of corkd on the wine world, do a search for Rkatsitelli on Google. Luckily, Dr. Franks’ Rkatsitelli is one of my favorite wines, because my profile of it is in the #1 spot.

QOTD: For the most part, I like the way the show is already, but, that being said, a show every now and then with a wine that you liked and would recommend would be nice. DON’T CHANGE THE SHOW, but special episodes would be cool.

BESIDES, if you change the format we all will end up buying the same stuff and NOT CHANGING the wine world :S, so, keep it as it is!! :)

PS: thank you for leaving taped episodes while you’re gone… i LOVE to see this kind of effort :)

QOTD: Love the current format! Very interesting and great. However, once every week or two, it would be nice to have a G’s picks show. OR even better… Wines you HATED, a “beware” show. Also fun to watch I expect.

I like the way you’re currently doing the show. Its fun not knowing how you will react.

    Thanks Gary!!!

Keep it the same G , doing only wines you already had may make it a little to fake or sugarfied . Some of your first reactions on a wine you never had are priceless . Like some others said maybe once a week do some wines you had recently and liked . Thanks for all you do .

QOTD: Ok, BIG G.- I can’t lie. I appreciate your oppinion about wines that you have tried, like, and then re-taste and rate on the show. HOWEVER- your honestly and on-the-spot evaluation is what keeps this whole show from being just another marketing tool for your store. So, although it seems obvious to suggest and maybe I’m copping out on which side of the fence I lie, maybe you should taste 2 of the four daily wines for the first time along with 2 that you have had before and either like or DON’T like to show what you dislike about a certain popular wine within the category of the day’s episode.
…But if I have to give you a “one-or-the-other” answer, I climbed up the fence from the “first-time tasted wines” side, and had to jump back down because of the barbed wire at the top. If I have to chose, I’ll go with your honesty on wines you’ve never tasted for my WL episodes, and look to your Cork’d wine journal for the ones you’ve liked recently.

    Keep it real.

The current format is spectacular. Variety, regions, varietals, prices, etc along with the best wine tasting maestro, is what makes this show so special.
I would like to see more blind tasting tough…
    Keep up the amazing work!

I like the fact that the outcome is not assured – I’d rather you step on wine bottle shaped landmine than me :) . I also agree with a lot of Jim Wilkerson’s points above.

That being said, I can see the value of maybe the occasional episode where you would outright recommend something – maybe some insight as to what your daily drinkers are, etc.

GV- As long as you keep bringing the good deals and the thunder I don’t care how you do it. Don’t get me wrong, I DO care.

I hope you’re enjoying Venice. It has been 15 years since my one and only trip there.

QOD – Love the exploration of new wines live/semi-live…. But keep us in the loop if you find some sleepers. And I don’t mind spending $ just has to be justified…Thanks gary, chao!

    Jim Wilkerson

QOTD: I’ll add to what seems to be the consensus – Keep as is.

    Several reasons:

    1. It’s more educational to see a wider range of quality. If everything is “awesome color, explosive nose, clean fruit, good structure, nice balance — this is a 90-point wine” what are we learning?
    2. It’s more fun. I play a little game as I’m watching: Guess GV’s score based on the face he makes while swishing the wine around his mouth (before he pulls his head out of the Jets spit-bucket). I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I was dead-on for the first 3 wines tonight, but off by 2 points on Marquis Philips.
    3. How much wine do you have to drink to need multiple bottles recommended by Gary every day of the week?! That’s asking a lot. Over the course of any given week, I always feel like I’ve gotten several good recommendations among the 15-20 wines he’s tasted, and that’s plenty for me.

I’ll also add that I love the blind tasting episodes and would enjoy seeing them more often.

Keep up the great work, Gary!

    Darlene O.

Gary, love the episode!! OK, here’s the deal. If you are tasting a wine you’ve already tasted that you’re recommending, it’s very linear. All we’re getting are the wines you like. When you’re tasting blind, not knowing the outcome, not only are you educating the masses on that particular wine ‘as is’, but your tasting is a surprise to all, and THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!! You end up critiquing the wine overall, whether you like it or not, and that’s much more educational in the long run. Just my 2 cents…

QOTD: Keep doin what you’re doin man. Personally, I enjoy finding out what wines you think are awful just as much as I enjoy finding out which ones you dig. You dig? ;)

QOTD: Over all, I prefer to see the initial, raw reaction that goes with tasting wine for the first time. However, if a really special wine comes along and you feel it deserves to be shared with us Vayniacs, by all means taste it again on the show; I’m sure you won’t mind :)

    clouder

QOTD: I say mix it up and do a little of both, look at the response and do more or less of it. Just like we shouldn’t be on the side of old or new world wines, we should be fans of one given format. Need to explore and try new things to appreciate what we got or to see what we’re missing out on.
