many people confuse Muscadet with muscat..
    Muscat=aromatic grape…
    Muscadet non-aromatic grape
also the grape is known both as Muscadet and Melon de Bourgogne

Oh and VAyniacs…if we have to learn something every day, might as well be about wine, right!!!

LAST!!! Q.O.D. – Never had Muscadet…didn’t even know how to pronounce it…and I love oysters!! Gosh I love reasons to eat and drink! Anxious to try the pairing…thanks Mr GV!

The past tense of seek is sought, not seeked.

Great show you’ve got here. I’m a KC Chiefs fan, not a big Muscadet fan. Today’s X-factor signoff reminded me of Dante Hall – though he’s recently escaped to the Rams. I’m wondering what wine you think would best compliment “Jets on the barbie” for dinner on December 30?! Something in the price range of 500 nickels would be great.

Long time watcher, first time… poster? Just wanted to say I love the show! I watch it (nearly) every day at work. The amount I’ve learned about wine is just amazing from watching your show, and you make it so entertaining! Keep up the awesome job!

I’m ashamed to report that I have not consumed as much sparkling wine as I should have. I still need to try Cava and Sekt.

OK, one last thing: I’ve heard tell that the only place outside the Loire Valley where there is any serious Melon being grown and etc. is in Oregon? Is this true, and if so is it good?

Well, it would be easier to tell you types that I HAVE had. The never-had-list is rather a long one. Never had:
Georgian, Lebanese, Portugese, Balkan, Grecian, Japanese, Hungarian, Canadian..and on and on.
I’ve never had a Muscadet, either. But I now want to try it.

I have never had a Muscadet, but will give one a try.
QOTD: I have not had any barolo or barbaresco.

I have never had any Beaujolais but I am going to run out and buy a Muscadet with a bouquet that includes pig snout. Great episode Gary!

QOTD: New Zealand SB…just haven’t gotten around to picking one up yet.

After four and a half months of drinking pretty much ONLY loire wines, I’m actually in the mood for a change. I’ve wanted an over-the-top cali Zin for quite a while, but they don’t import american wines in small french towns in the middle of a wine growing region. :(

QOTD: I’ve never had an wine from Italy.

Nice. Try the top cuvées of Sauvion one time. They’ll definitely bring the thunder and they last in the cellar (not like the average Musc).
QOTD: Never had an Uruguayan Tannat. Maybe it’ll change shortly as there is a Casa Filguera in the cellar.

QOTD: I have never had any kind of white wine .. ever.

QOTD: Never had anything from Bordeaux…changing that shortly. Also, experience with whites has been fairly lacking – discovered I greatly preferred red several years ago and havent looked back (in my early twenties). The recent episodes featuring white wines are opening my eyes though.

    Oh, forgot the QOTD:

    I never had a white Zin – should I feel guilty? :D

Love the episode, Gary!! QOD: Have not tried the Priorat region, would be interested in doing so.

That reminds me, in the interest of clearing up confusion:

Muscadet = white Loire wine made from Melon grapes (see above)
Muscadelle = a different grape found in white Bordeaux blends
Muscat/Muscatel = yet another white grape used all over the world to make usually sweet dessert type wines, although I think there are a few dry ones too

Sparkling Muscatel = one of the finest wines of Idaho!

love those oysters and Muscadet on hot day – perfect lunch. well done. got an example of great Muscadet we should seek out here in the “fish bars” of the west coast? WTF are these places anyway?

    QotD: Douro. help me.

QOTD: Toss up between nice Italian wines (barolo, barbaresco), which doesn’t bother me too much, and Portugal, which I have a bottle of a Duoro called Quinta do Cao that I’m dying to try.

Love the Muscadet bottle shape – it’s unique.

Greece. I’ve never had a Greek wine.

    Gary,

I down load your podcast every day. I love reds and my wife loves whites. You really give me insight into wines and I have tried some based on your recommendations. I loved the Barolo session. I can’t wait to try your recommendations. I would love a wrist band if you have one. Keep up the good work.

QOTD: I have yet to taste a Lebanon wine. Masur? not yet!
I have not yet tasted a wine from Texas or Virginia.
And while I have tasted many wines from NY State, Vemont, rhode island and Mass., I have yet to taste a wine from any of these states that I would actually want to taste again.
I have tasted a wine from New Jersey. You?
