GEWURTZTRAMINER!!! One of my favorites! I am glad to see you with these, Gary. Love the color of these wines, almost like they could glow in the dark, you know what I mean?

QOTD: I think it would be great for you to go to a place that is centrally located, such as St. Louis, or something. I am biased toward St. Louis because it is only 5 hrs. from me (Memphis). What do you think?

    Boston Ben

Dude – gotta come to BOS-TON. This will take you into the heart of Patriots territory, where you can use your influence in the wine world to undermine Pats fans. We also invented the blue laws (you know, no buying alcohol on Sundays, that sorta thing?) – it’s time for the RED laws (I have no idea what this means). And furthermore, we have a 2-story Wine Tower at the Excelsior here – who can pass that up?

QOTD: Take your pick…LA, Texas, Fla, Washington….Just let me know soon So I can book the tickets! :)

He who is loved by many animals, but not so much human babies - they freak me out!

    Hey Gary,

Come to Denmark, and I will personally serve you all wines from Lindemann’s… Or not.

We love Geverz and Riesling. Come to San Diego. Not as good a town (culturaly, food, art, architecture, etc.) as my former, beloved Chicago, but great for tourists. Or come in the winter to escape NJ.

As a novivce it is great to here about and wines I have never had before. This definetely sounds like a great grape to try out.

QOTD: Roadtrip for GV to fans – Got Go with Dallas.

BUT. QOTD PART TWO: What about a road trip for GV and Fans to a locale?
    – maybe go to some Oregan Vineyards.

Before I watched this episode, I saw the thumbnail and said to myself, “I’ve gotta post a comment and mention that this is the only wine I’d pair with spicy Asian cuisine.” You beat me to it!

Most phenomenal Alsatian Gewurzs that are hard, or usually impossible, to find in the USA, only in France. Here’s a job for the importers. The availability of these great wines IS COMPLETELY LAME. Listen up, Wine Library!

Biased, sure, but come to Napa.

    Gary,
Love Gewurzt. I say Guwurzt ’til it hurts!
I have had the Trimbach 3 times and it is textbook Gewurztraminer. It is the only wine to pair with Indian curry.

I was wondering what country bore the name Vaynerchuk.

    Cheers.

Good episode. I think the first/only(?) Gewurztraminer I ever had was corked which made a bad impression. I will try again for sure now.

    QOTD: Austin, Texas, please.

Gary, Not only is Sedona one of the most beautiful/ overlooked destinations in the US. It is home to some of the best/overlooked wine that the west has to offer. Page Springs (Cornville, AZ) is a diamond in the rough, it is the bling on your ring, it is where I Rluna live!!! Not only will you enjoy the scenery and wine, you may encounter scorpions!, large spiders!!, and maybe…if you are lucky…A snake or two. May you choose wisely.

If NY/NJ is so easy then let’s do this. Have never had a Gewurz, but I will seek one out now. Let’s do a Vayniac tailgate at the Dolphin vs Jet game in Miami in early Dec.

Gewurztraminer was one of the earliest wines I ever tried and I loved it, but I haven’t had any in years! Now I have a craving and need to go out and get some!

As for some place to go, how about the Seattle area? Plenty of wineries and wine drinkers to visit!

100% with you on the under-appreciation of gewurz…great company for a hot summer afternoon…gewurztraminer feels so lively, lots of fun to play around with and figure out
QOTD: Yea, I’m close enough to just go and see you in Jersey

Actually, one of the worst wines I ever had was an Alsatian Gewürtztraminer smelled and tasted like hair conditioner but I came back to others and they are good with really spicy Mexican food as well as Thai or even a really spicy barbecue.

Where to go. I would second Santa Fe. I’m there every other month or DC as that is the closest anyone will come to Virginia Beach.

What do you mean by “Canadian Riesling” I thought Malivoire was a Gewürztraminer? ;-) You gotta get that fixed!

Gewürztraminer is one of my favorite grapes too.

Why don’t you make a show on the four different kinds of alsace: Ordinary, Grand Cru, Vendage Tardives and Selection Graines Nobles.

And do respect that wines mature and change with age!

    Winodontist

Never had a gewurtz before, will certainly look into it, thanks for the tip to have it with spicy food.

I will clearly be outnumbered, but why not St. Louis? It’s the gateway to the west. Fall is beautiful here.

I had my first gewurztraminer after i read online that it pairs well with sushi. and…it did! i think the high minerality went nicely with the soy and wasabi while the melon tones and spice was nice with all our rolls and seaweed salad. I would like to try it with indian or thai food now that GV mentions it.

    KANSAS CITY!

    MrTC

Only remember ever having a single bottle of gewürztraminer, which was from the Alsace (can’t remember the name). I can still taste the lychee fruit. However, in my ignorance I thought it would be something like a riesling and tried pairing it with fish. That really didn’t work out, and sort of put me off – even though the wine by itself was pretty damn good. Will have to seek some out to try with oriental cuisine…

QOTD: I second TSchampaert, come to Brussels (or Paris/London if you must)!

Love the GA-Wirtz….as long as it’s not too sweet….and finishes somewhat dry.

Go to SantaYnez/Paso Robles. Some new great wines being produced and quaint lovely town.
