Worst wine under $10 = Woolworths House Red Wine … there’s lots of good cheap wine in South Africa, but this is not one of them.

  • I had a red blend called “Relax” that was undrinkable.

Worst bottle of wine — I can’t even remember the brand, but it was a Cabernet from Aldi that I paid $2.00 for!! On hindsight, it was probably a good value/quality, but wow!

I can’t remember anything less than an 80 in recent years. I’m sure I had some nasty stuff (from a jug, of course) back in college.

Gary – you should do the inverse of this show – a show on value Merlot!

Hi Gary… I dimly remember having some RETSINA in the 80s, which was like battery acid or industrial lubricant, some sort of a non-food liquid masquerading as a beverage.

  • poor GV… i have never, ever had a wine from barkan that i enjoyed.

but i DID once have a ’97 romanian PN at $3.50 that was FAB (my dad kept on buying cases of the stuff until the shop ran out), so there must be other good PN’s out there for less than an-arm-and-a-leg. thanks for making the effort to find them!

QOTD: in the army they used to serve a kidush wine that was literally called “victory wine”. need i say more?

Ouch…. another 0-4 episode. Tough deal. Thankfully Hollywood didnt make me go crazy and buy up wines without doing some research first (namely, you). I do love your rants though when you taste poor wine. Sad thing is my parents drink some of these (Cavit). QOTD: Without question, the Charles Shaw brands. My parents buy these because of the price point, and I tasted a Chardonnay and some red and both were awful.

  • QTOD: So keeping in theme for this episode, it too was a pinot N. About three years ago I was living by myself in the deep suburbs of Pittburgh and we had a small wine shop in town. I didn’t know too much about wine and one day while walking home from work I stopped in.

They had a Pinot Noir for $6.00.
Regretfully I forgot the maker of the wine now, on the tip of my tongue though.
I popped it when I got home.

The mouthfeel was quite thin, almost thinner than water.
The attack was seriously all oak
I tried to get some fruit flavors out of it – anything – cherries, raspberries anything to no avail.
It was horrendous. It was hot, it was oak.
It was so bad I tried to find reviews of it online to see if it really was that bad. I couldn’t find any mention of it anywhere.

I’d give it a 50 pts because the scale doesn’t go below … screw it.
    I’m giving it a 47.

Great show. Shame the last one was cork’d. What a fitting end to the show though. Horrible, Bad, Horrible, Cork’d.
    keep up the great work,

A question…is Pinot Noir considered a light bodied wine or full bodied?

qotd wow where to even begin. most recently it was from foxhorn winery.

shame the pinot from Israel was corked. Don’t think I’ve seen you have a wine from there on before, I was curious as to how it was. A vin jaune Gary would be another wine from another area yo haven’t had on before.

It was from the name Urban, but I even forget the nomenclature. I bought it without trusting my gut and it brought heavy heat. It was a didn't like the book because of its cover but bought it anyway and wasn't impressed sort of thing.

  • Matthamshire

QOTD: Tisdale Merlot NV. Hands down. Call the FDA, please. I was reluctant dump it down the sink after spitting out the first sip, fearing the effects on my septic tank. Plastic diaper on the nose. Didn't get much beyond that as my tongue revolted, involuntarily ejecting this “fluid” into the pail. Noxious.

  • ohiograpeman

Montpelier, Barefoot, Little Penguin, PKNT all are better than a lot of the thin but expensive Oregon ones. PKNT is exceptional and I am drinking my first glass of Montpelier now–really good too. How about those Texas Merlot's and Cabernet's

  • ohiograpeman

The one's mentioned on the site Talus, Cavit, etc. are OK at best. In comparison mine will knock your socks off with body and an explosion of flavor.

This episode is why I stay away from low end Pinot…great episode..NOT! http://www.winelx.com

lol. Oak monster shirt and not a bull one!

QOTD: Most def the three buck chuck Syrah that I had last year, so it must have been a 2008. Über fake candy cherry and thinner than water.

  • Lathamm1

Great show. Had some of those terrible wines myself.

QOTD – I’ve had many many terrible cheap wines in my day – I’ve had a few Eastern European cheap reds that really were totally undrinkable. Sort of had super tart processed plastic taste if that makes any sense at all. While what I’m about to mention really doesn’t count as wine, when I was younger I had myself some Richard’s Wild Irish Rose – like drinking a bag of white sugar plus candy and then paying dearly for it the next day. Truly horrifying.

  • QOTD: The absolute worst is Double Dog Dare Cabernet Sauvignon. It cost $2.50 at Rite Aid. The smell is enough to make you vomit.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Worst wine under $10? It’s a tie between Carlo Rossi, and Livingston Merlot. Nothing against Merlot, (I like Merlot) but those were horrible, I poured them down the drain.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Without a doubt the worst cheap wine I’ve ever had was easily Ecco Domani. It was like grape juice and kerosene.

  • Neal Buck

Everything by Yellow Tail. No matter whether you have their Sauvignon Blanc or their Shiraz, it all has a distinctive Yellow Tail flavor–like they have an Australian pissing in each bottle just to give it that Yellow Tail flair.
