Great episode. I’ve had Tannat once before and you’ve got me craving more.

    Hey Gary,

you asked for it, now live with it. I just posted the first comment to WLTV in iTunes’ German Store. It’s hasn’t appeared yet, because it’s still being checked for swearwords and other dangerous content. My comment translates about like this (hope my English isn’t too bad):

    Gary pins every wine down

This host shouts, bits the glass or sits in the snow with a t-shirt to test the effect of temperature on wine.

Gary Vaynerchuk is Director of Operations of the Wine Library. In his daily show he tries three or four different wines. But he’s not doing it like an English lord would do. His affections rather reminds of a stadium announcer in a football arena. (No show without the Jets sticker.)

But the most important thing is: He characterises a wine’s aroma so that the viewer tastes it, too. Thereto he often uses unorthodox comparisons and metaphors. And every single one helps to pin the taste down exactly. The comparison with the taste of soy sauce is part of the repertoire as is the image of knocking over a deer, sliting it open with a knive and biting it.

Vaynerchuk also sees himself on a mission. It’s about nothing less than Changing the Wine World. He hammers into his community not to believe in regulations. Training your palate and making your own decisions are the only teachings a real “Vayniac” obeys. (By the way: There is episode 148 in the archive on tv.winelibrary.com. In that one Vaynerchuk shows how to train your palate. Especially the last minutes of that episode are well worth watching.)

Hey there! Do you ever do any features on beer? I know that you have a pretty good selection of beers @ wine library, cuz I buy from there all the time, but I was wondering if you’d ever do a wine library tv video on some micro-brews?

Nice wine selection today. You have been Dugg and iTunes reviewed.

    QOTD: Wristband baby.

QOTD: No schwag yet. Would like some. New haircut gets an 89. If it cost more than $20, its a pass. The mohawk brought the thunder … 92 points.

QOTD: My only schwag is the wristband. Am I falling behind?
My husband loves Black Muscat. I’ve tried Arneis, but a long time ago. I need to find it again. The Tannat sounds like a must try.

QOTD: I really like the wristbands. I’ve hardly taken it off since I got it.

By the way, GV…while I may not have sent a picture in for my wristband, I /did/ send in a video for it. That’s right, I raised the bar.

QOTD: the wristband…think the new tshirt is nice, but I think the image is a little big. Love the oak monster too!!!

Gary… a big time lurker here!
Watched hundreds of shows and THIS is my first comment.
I just pop out to say hi, and congratulate you for a great gig.
I was exited for the tannat, hopping that it would be an Uruguayan one.
After all, what about ANY wines from this country? …. you know!
The small one just below Brazil!

A fantastic one: Familia Deicas Premiere Cru Garage from Juanico (explosive, full, identity driven, complex, top five favorite from South America and the best tannat that I’ve ever had)…. DARE you! :)

All time fan from Rio de Janeiro.
Want to get a wristband picture at the Sugar Loaf?

QOTD: definitely the wristbands. I like the new shirt too, although I think it might be a little pricey to buy an advertisement. Something like a simple logo on the front would have sufficed (for me anyway).

I’m curious about these wines – haven’t tried any of those grapes myself, although I have had the regular (white?) muscat dessert wine. Bonny Doon I think it was. Pretty yummy…

Nice. Looking forvward on more episodes on odd grape varietals.
Perhaps som namedropping on the “Classic” producers of mentioned varietals in the episodes, eg Ch. Boucasse for Tannat aso…

My WLTV episode wishlists – The Thunder-Clash:
    1. Barolo vs Burgundy – rasberry and truffles vs strawberries and truffles
    2. “Froggy” Hermitage vs Barossa Shiraz – the aussie will get an oldworld woop-ass when the French-ies send one of there HeavwWeight “la la”* -wines!
    3. newworld Bordeaux vs oldworld California Cab – The crossdressers challange, “Tertre Rotebeouf” has been through a fruitbom-rocky balboa training camp in a garage in St. Emilon…

    * La Mouline, La Tourque, La Landonne, La chappelle Hermitage/Cote Rotie

QotD: Love the wristband (need to get a picture to send in) and love the Oak Monster shirt (hopefully on its way soon).

Since I discovered this through Digg/Diggnation it only seems right to Digg you in turn. Keep it up.

Tannat is rocking Gary! Had some from the south-west France, including Chateau D’Aydie from Madiran – massive wines! Perfect for shocking winefriends ;)

    QOTD: The wristbands!

I really appreciate all the esoteric background info on the grapes. Makes things easier to understand, more logical.

Oh and everyone, you can now befriend Gary on Google’s Orkut as well:
