Just going through the archives GV for Tempranillo & Carmenere. I love searching out these sub $15 wines from Spain, Chile and Argentina. Great stuff.

I finally got on the iPhone bandwagon this past week. I’m only 2+ years late! Just got a 3G-S. Digging it. I decided to wait for the prices to come down a bit. $200 was more palatable for me.

At least the 2005 Tempranillo wasnt a pass with 12 z’s, eh Gary? QOTD: Nothing. I dont need those kind of devices. I need a cell phone to talk to people. Thats it. I dont like straining my eyes looking at videos or text on a tiny screen, anyway.

That sucks because the price is down to $400 now…

I’m having the 2005 Montes Alpha Syrah right now. I’m torn between loving it and liking it. WS gives the 2005 another point above the 2004, 92. I’d be interesting in Gary’s take on the 2005.

QOTD: I’d thank whoever gave me one. :-)

Good episode, Gary. You got your philosophy across (and without yelling or getting all hyper) plus you threw out a rule that I totally agree with (two-case max). Some of the wines you liked and some you didn’t; they were reasonably priced, plus it’s short too. I think all of that make it a great episode.

I’m not saying that every episode should be like that (I like the wacky concept episodes, the marathon episodes and the straightforward themed episodes too), but I this is a great one for me to send to my friends as an introduction.

Oh yeah, come to Charleston, SC. I can’t guarantee a grand party but I’d have fun.

montes alpha–got a bottle at a wine tasting and will be interested to try it out and compare notes

as for the QOTD–not much. post a comment maybe. does that get me one?

I’m excited to try the Carmenere. Sounds right up my alley.

QOTD: What would I do for an iPhone? Wait until rev. 2 or rev. 3 to get one. The EDGE network is slow, you can’t tether it and use it as a modem and there are a few other limitations that I hope get worked out first.

I found Carmenere years ago while trying to figure out what wine was. I particularly like to match it with lamb. The best I have had to date was a gift from a friend, 2004 Misiones de Rengo Reserve, unfortunately it can’t be found in the states – unless you want to start importing it. I happened to have picked up a few bottles of Casa Silva a few days ago, now I am even more excited about trying them.

Good stuff. Carmenere was my favorite new varietal discovery in 2006. In 2005 it was probably Albarino. I’m not sure about 2007 yet…but I’ll try the Casa Silva while I am debating.

QOTD: Although Megan (the wife) and I are psyched to get iPhones, that would be $1200 buckaroos. WOW!! Personally I’m not jonesing too bad for one yet so I don’t have a really good answer to your question. But I am always willing to run down the street naked for something free. haha

QOTD: I’d happily lift a glass with you or fill out a survey for an iPhone, but that’s about it. Not much love on this board for the iPhone. If anyone thinks a Treo 700 is even in the ballpark then you just don’t like Apple or something. Maybe all those PC vs. Mac commercials have pissed people off! Can you tell I’m a Mac person???

good episode, man. QOTD: I’d have to move to another state, because ATT/Cingular don’t gots service here in VT! Still, I own AAPL and that makes up for it. :)

QOTD: I honestly wouldn’t really do anything for an iPhone. My current phone/PDA works just fine.

QOTD: What would I do for an iPhone??? nothing really…it’s just a phone/gadget/devise that’s designed to lock 1/2 of America into one major company….no thanks. If they are free & I got free service…sure, I’d take it. Otherwise…i’ll stick to the affordable phones.

Now for my question…what bottles did you open for the 4th of July?

I don’t need an iphone. My ipod is good enough. Will try to find some Carmenere today.

Too bad the Tempranillo was such a disappointment. Have you had the Casa Don Juan Tempranillo? This is another Spanish Tempranillo under $10. I though it was pretty good, but I’m curious what other people think. (I think the stuff I had was 2003.)

I am a HUGE fan of Carmenere! I have been touting its abilities since I learned of them a few years ago. it is a great grape (one of the original Bordeaux grapes I believe) and totally rocks.

Haven’t had the wine GV tried, but if you want a cool grape to get into, Carmenere is the way to go. Calina Reserva is one of my favorites, and Alcanca (from Calina) is also great, and both are 8-15 US$.

Cheers GV, and kudos on the Time article.

Cool epidose…first time to hear about Carmenere and looking forward to try some.
QOTD. iPOD! I actually I had one (nano) and I hated it because of the silly ear phones that never fits well!! Oh yeah, I might have to pay another 40$ for a decent ear phones, not to mention about the little protective rubber casing for the ipod that cost additional 30-40$..! So I actually gave my iPOD away to a friend, for free.
    cheers,

Good show. I almost bought a Carmenere recently, but for some reason didn’t. However, I just received a case of goodies from WL today including a bottle of Summers Charbono. Ever since I heard about that rare grape, I have wanted to try it. Can’t wait to crack it open. I put my own value case together looking at all of the 90+ ratings on WL and picking out no single bottle of wine more than $17. I chose one wine that I have tasted and enjoyed in the past, but 10 out of the 12 bottles were wines I’ve never had, so looking forward to the new experiences.

QOTD: My son is a Mac Genius for Apple so as you can imagine, I’ve been hearing about the iPhone constantly. He is lucky because Uncle Steve (Jobs) is giving every permanent employee of Apple and every part timer who has been there more than a year an 8 GB iPhone this month. He has given us the dog and pony show and I will have to say, it is an impressive device. However, it’s a little too rich for my blood and I don’t like the fact that it is only on the AT&T network. Besides, I love, love, love my Treo and don’t see any reason to walk away from it right now.
