Drink alot of supertuscans and just recently tried some of the older wintages.

They seem too develop tremendously with some ageing, and wines that I found over-oaked as young actully came out with very nice fruit!

I can´t see them long-term cellaring, even though wines as Il Futuro and Tinganello of 2000 still need some decanting.

I guess the 97´s are peeking now – so don´t wait for them!

poop. I didn’t know about the home wine making contest. I have some Red Mountain Cab getting cuter and cuter by the day.

Contest…food and wine pairing contest? Supply the recipe and pair it with the vino. QPR being a consideration here. If nothing else it would be great to see what other people are doing and add to my own library.

I just have to say that your podcast is awesome. I wasn’t really into wine much before this summer, but then I took a trip to south america and visited Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. And the wine down there was so good and so cheap to buy that I got hooked. And now, I try and drink a bottle every couple of weeks.

Although I am kind of annoyed because I live in College Station, TX right now, and lets just say that they don’t have many shops with a large selection of wines. Oh well, I still try and branch out and find good wines though.

As for the contest ideas, I like the theme song idea the best. I am a bit of a musician, although not greatly talented. And it would be a fun summer project for me. So I really like that idea. Just keep on bringing the thunder.

Seems fitting to do a show opening contest. The show has evolved SO much and the opening remains the same. My vote is for that.

I miss the good ol days………last year

    Great show!

Hey, Gary, how about a special episode where you taste wines that come in super fancy bottles? Like cat-shaped or coil-shaped or whatnot? Let’s see if the shape of the bottle says anything about the quality of the wine.

That SF Vaynerglass is still lookin’ good! I admit that I rarely drink out of mine, for fear of breaking it.

Yeah! Pipe tobacco! Thanks for the bone! Of course, there are MANY different aromas within the world of pipe tobacco, but I expect that you’re talking about cavendish, which is the smell that most people who don’t smoke a pipe associate with pipe tobacco.

Hmmm… so you even enjoy their sweat now? Well, if the Jets ever need somebody to drink their bathwater…

My wristband pics are coming, so watch your mail! (I hesitate to send you email these days because I don’t want to add to your load, and I figure I might get lost in the pile.)

QOTD: You could give some kind of awesome prize to the person (or group of people) who designs the most creative way to share their passion for wine without snobbery.

    QOTD: What would Gary say?

Pick a wine that you have never tried. Allow everyone to provide tasting notes re color, nose, flavor, and score. The person coming closest to your tasting note wins.

QOTD: How ’bout a wine label contest?…

Gary: Thanks for sharing the email. I do like what you are doing and Thanks to you for doing it.

Love the Italian Juice Big G. QOTD The show is about wine. So, maybe you can do a 20-question challenge. Some hidden info on Wine or something that will help the Vayniacs continue their education and enter a contest at the same time. Hmmmmm….

    Super Tuscans, super episode.

QOTD: How about a competition to come up with the best theme for a home wine tasting party and then host it. I’m not sure if you would get pictures or video or just write ups of the parties.

Gary…. This may sound kind of weird, but I noticed that the shirt you wore today was the exact same one you wore in LA at the Vayniac tasting.

How about the best “Gary Vayniac impression” video contest?

    Dave Canada

You got my wife all excited with you offer of a feel me up…..Seriously Gary, how many female (or male I guess) vayniacs offer themselves to you on a daily basis…..Lizy must have a lot of faith in you :)
QOTD – How about a contest for the craziest Vayniac, or most dedicated vayniac or something.

QOTD: I’d love to see a theme song contest.

Tasting request: Domaine De La Barroche Reserve Chateauneuf Du Pape 2004. I had this wine recently and loved it. Isn’t it about time you treated yourself to another Chateauneuf du Pape?

One more for the to drink list – Altesino.
The intro video and song are good ideas – but keep it to 20 secs.

As against non-traditional blends as I tend to be…I will have to try some of these IGT’s for 2 reasons…

    1) The description of the Del Bosco is just what I look for in my Old World Wines.

    2) I felt a bit chastised regarding close-mindedness. You are right, I have to be less rigid, and open up the old mind now and again.

Cheers for your desire to open minds!

I don’t know from Super Tuscans, really … I have a ‘95 Tignanello in the cellar but I must confess I’m not totally sure how to treat it right. I imagine it’s ready to go, though. I need to make some room in that thing anyway.

And if I can vent for a moment. Like a lot of people, probably, I spent Saturday evening at a wedding reception for a few friends of mine who decided to get hitched on 070707. So we’re in the banquet room in the newest high-end restaurant in town, and I ask the bartender what he’s got for wine back there; he sez merlot, chardonnay and white zin. Not promising, but then I ask him, hoping against hope, what’s the merlot?

He sez “uh, that’s a RED wine.”

    Never mind.

QOD: I miss the video intros. Those were fun.

Another great show Gary. Definately shows that you don’t have to spend a fortune for great wine. The Altesino is an absolute steal. You make a great point when you comment that wine should be enjoyed simply because you like it regardless of what the critics may say. Ultimately, that is all that truly matters because you have to consume it. Keep up the good work.

Gary, I am going to have to try the Altesino after those comments. You said you are going to visit Napa next week. Do you have any plans on driving south to Temecula, Ca. I left a comment last week wondering if you might do an epesode on Temecula wines. This is because I live only an hour from those wineries. Thanks,

When I go to a wine store for the first time I tell they first person I meet, “I know anyone who comes in here with $40-$50 dollars can find a good bottle of wine with out any help, some will find a great bottle. What I need help with is finding a good everyday $10 bottle.” Most have been very helpful.
