QOTD: Hey Gary, just thought i’d call you out on checking new comments on old episodes, if so please try Leitz (Rudesheim-er) Riesling Trocken and/or De Martino (Maule Valley) Single Vineyard Malbec. You’ve got a few months before i’ll have caught up to the current shows!

i can drink amarone all my life!!!!!!!!!!!it’s a pity we don’t have such a wide range of them in london;too much australia, newzealand and south africa going on heretely la!!no offence, but maybe merchants need to keep it old school(world) as well!or they don’t wanna make losses on the huge amount of ‘corked’ wines customers send back,so they opt for screw top!!btw gary,i wish u could do an episode on this “corked/not corked” jazz,it’s amazing how people love it here!!

Gary, I just got back from Valpolicella (Carlo Boscaini) where they make excellent Amarone. You’re right, the alchohol content is off the roof but I like it. The Tommasis, there’s also Masi BTW, Alegrinis are very expensive Amarones. You can definitely get those in Valpolicella for 18 Euro from small unknown wineries and beats the living crap of the big timers. In the US, popularity brings money but in Italy quality is numbero uno.

Loved watching this Amarone episode. Im relatively new to wine and started reading the book…its awesome by the way….and oddly enough had an epiphany with the Masi Amarone as well. Great stuff…keep up the great work.

Another 0-4 day? Ouch… at least you wernt totally down by the end of the episode. QOTD: A year too late, but I wouldnt mind you opening a bottle of Petrus. Id really like to see the tasting notes on such a rare and highly reguarded wine.

I need to make a serious suggestion on the order in which you taste the wines…at least for the Italian ones, please taste the youngest ones first, then work up to the older ones, or taste them in order of alcohol content, lowest to highest. Just a suggestion to give the wines a fair chance.

Whats this read head studio pierri azzardo thing? any more infos on this producer? I would like to taste this shiraz, but it seems like wine library is the only shop on earth which sells this wine?!?

reading the comments about producer bonazzi i think it would be interesting to compare other (i.e. non-amarone) ‘appassimento’ wines from the veneto zone! masi has it’s ‘grandarella’, quintarelli has his ‘alzero’… im sure there are others!

Gary, Fantastic. Bit slow with the first couple of bottles, but fantastic finish. The metaphors and imagery were great- just jumping out. Laughing out loud good.

Molnar Family Vineyards Pinot Noir. My newbie palate determined that it had ‘an old world nose with a new world flavor.’

    Keep up the great work!

QOTD: Domaine La Barroche Chateauneuf-du-Pape Reserve. WL has the 2004. Either that or the Vieux Donjon CDP 2005. I’ve heard good things about both of these but would love to hear your opinion.

I feel like Gary keeps a note pad next to his bed at night with quotes that pop into his head, like chubacka and his friends or something… and then unleashes them onto us. Maybe i’m wrong, but maybe i’m right – and only gary, and mrs. oakmonster know the truth. 3 wines for friday… Moccagatta bric balin barbaresco 2001, siduri van der kamp 2005 pinot noir, AAAANNNNDDDD ummmm, ummmm…. montes alpha cabernet – something readily available could be cool. (And G-man, if you do these wines, no that’s making it up to me ;) )

You’ve really got to be in the right frame of mind for Amarones. By the way, you guy’s only have one ripassa/ripasso in stock! Always seem to be light on those.
