P.S. the cycles gladiator runs around 10 bucks / bottle. could be a cheap winner.

QOTD: Since you’re a big riesling fan, try a Dr. Loosen Bernkasteler Lay riesling, trocken, if you can get your hands on one in the US. I just bought a box of ‘06 a few weeks ago, I love it. ‘05 was also excellent.

    Hi Gary! :)
QOTD: Can you taste something from Barefoot? I know it’s wicked cheap, but I’ve been trying them lately and would love to hear what you think of them. I’m constantly in search of wines that are drinkable and under $5.

dude, im a gnocchihead too! QOTD: Auxerrois, Clos de Rochers or some other producer. I had my first Luxembourg-ian wine last friday and it was that wine- really liked it.

Well, I guess I have to go seek out the Red Head now, huh ? From Gary’s description, it seems like it’s the liquid equivalent of a 20 car pileup on the interstate.

QOTD: We were talking about the 2003 on the forums, so why not give a whirl with a traditionally great wine from one of my favorite wineries – Justin Vineyards. The 2004 Justin Isosceles : http://winelibrary.com/search.asp?Vint=&size=%5B+all+%5D&sDept=&search=justin

It’s probably a little young, but I’d love to hear Gary’s take on it. The standard Justin Syrah is usually pretty darn good as well.

Gary, you make me laugh :-) I love the look on your face when you tasted the last wine. It was classic!

QOTD: I’m suggesting a Canadian wine: Malivoire Pinot Noir! http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=5073

Gary, great episode as always, missed you yesterday but last friday was worth at least two episodes.\
QOTD http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=29116 I had this wine at a wine tasting and really like it, I am interested in what you think of it.

Hmmm, you got close last week with the viognier show, but how bout a 94 rated Marsanne/Viognier for under 20 bucks – Treana White?
    Pretty please?

    Dominus

Since I love 99.9% of Italian wines, this is a varietal I need to try. It has always been hit or miss. And you’re right about gnocchi, it doesn;t get much better than that BUT you have to experience it in Italy since it kicks it up to a whole new level.

QOTD: Since I can’t find any Reignac, Ducru or Dominus this may do the trick. A CA chardonnay for 6 bones.

It would mean a lot to me if you tasted the 2001 Syrah from Terra Blanca

My mom works in the tasting room there, and it is absolutely one of our top favorite wines ever.

I know It’s all the way out in WA, but they’re on Red Mountain, which is one of the hottest appellations in the country, and I really think they should get their name out there.

QOTD – I’d love to see your impression of the 2003 Pontet Canet, as I’ve heard many say it’s drinking beautifully now, but I gotta believe this baby’s long asleep! Thanks GV. Or how about a 2005 Caymus Cab…they just were released. Be the first to score it.

Quite curious about how those super high scoring shirazs really smell and taste… especially at a price I can reach!

    cabernetnoir

Good show Gary, not great, but good. I cringed when I saw you taste the last bottle. It reminded me of tasting Sour Patch Kids for the first time when I was 7 years old.

Question of the Day: If you want to really bring some “Thunder” on Friday, I quadruple-dog-dare you to taste out some Cakebread Cab. Either that, or have you done a “tribute to screwcaps” show….I think it would be an awesome show to show the wine world that there is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to screw-caps. If you so choose…. “Layer Cake Shiraz” would be an excellent screwcap to taste. If you don’t think it brings the thunder, my lurking will stop, and I will post everyday…..until you get cancelled….

    SHOCK THE WORLD!!
