Good to have you back… that was a rough Monday.

QOTD: Castell Del Remei Gotim Bru 2004,
    WL Code# 28578
    WL Price $9.99
    Jay Miller Score: 90 pts

Ok- the reason that I would like to see you taste this wine is because I recently had it, enjoyed it VERY much for its cigar box, smoky character without overbearing fruit, with some reserved yet solid tannins on the finish. NOW I looked it up on WL to see that you’re selling it for UNDER 10 BONES and Jay Miller gave it 90 pts. Being a 2004, it might be just right to start drinking, and it is a well conceived blend of 60% Tempranillo, 20% Cabernet, and 20% Merlot. There was a bit of noticeable oak after its 10 months of barrel aging, and I’d love to see if you think the O. Monster showed up here.

QOTD: Two wines with more buzz than I have heard for any other wine.

    1. The 2005 Charles Shaw (Two Buck Chuck) Chardonnay. This wine supposedly won the best Chardonnay in CA this past weekend. Is it really that good?

    2. Orin Swift “The Prisoner.” As much as I have heard, read, and seen of this wine, one would think it is the second comming in a bottle. Is this wine really that good!?

I have been unable to obtain ether of these wines where I live, but some insight from a person who has access to them would be appreciated.

I would like to see you live by you mantra when blow everyone away by presenting something really unexpected.

What about the one that been blabbing about?

Familia Deicas Premiere Cru Garage is an Uruguayan Tannat that will reset (or set) all the ideas about this country. As if anyone has any set idea about it. It is a wonderfully bold, elegantly full and particularly interesting wine. A modern wine with an old world appeal on its spices and earth tones. A pleaser for “Neworlders” as well as the open minded old world fans. I found a distributor on the US: http://www.truevineimports.com
(and i’ll not stop bugging everyone before you try this one)

But again, must be a hard wine to find.

than you can always go for the other unexpected juices.
Cadus Malbec 02: A spicy Malbec this one might change the general view that the grape does not have good depth. winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=3514

Blandy’s 15 Year Malmsey: what about talking about a serious Madeira? It goes perfect with chocolate deserts. winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=14533

Hope you enjoyed your trip to the better coast.

QOTD: Yarra Yering Dry Red No.2 2004. Love the Cote Rotie style blends – would like to see how this bad boy shows.

Hey, Gary. Nice show, Amarone is something that I haven’t tried yet, I should definitely seek it out next time I stop by at the wine shop.
QQTD: “La Granacha 2005 Signargues Cote Du Rhone” This is something that I tried when I first started tasting wines(which is not that long ago). I remember it being a bit bitter when first tasted but after 3~4 hours of decanting, this wine became a complete cherry juice. I don’t know if I was just mistaken, like you said, I should trust my palette but I just need little clarification that what I felt was true or not…. And honestly, I want to see how you feel about this one. Thank you so much for such great shows!!!

Try the 2005 Bodegas Numanthia Termes.

QOTD: I noticed you had some Carlisles on the shelf, how about trying one of those. How about Paumanok Vineyards Assemblage from LI. You had Realm inside the cellar to the right. either the proprietary red or the cab. a few thoughts.

Love Amarone. Hope you get some better ones next go around.

QOTD: I’ve mentioned these guys to you before on several occasions — friends of mine with a fantastic organically farmed winery. Good Tanzer scores on their wines. http://www.medlockames.com/medlock/index.jsp.

Here’s where you can find the wine: http://www.wineaccess.com/store/knightsbridgewine/ecommerce/product.html?product_id=10922498.

Their red wine is great, but I could only find the ‘05 Chard which is quite good. Thanks GV.

Great show, GV. Love Amarones, even though I have only had a few. They seem to attract both old world/new world heads. No one has to leave the room!

Gary: Sorry for the extra “c” — that was me I’m sure. I fixed it Friday morning, but it was after your visit…I’ll just withdraw in shame now and see you tomorrow. Hope you had a good trip.

QOTD: Here are a few I would like to see you try:

Edgewood Estate Carbernet Sauvignon – 2002
Chateau La Vieille Cure Fronsac – 2000
Casanova de Neri – Rosso di Montalcino – 2005

I would like to see your impression on these an dho wit compares to my own for future reference.

I was recently in CA and was really impressed with the B.R. Cohn winery. The 2003 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet and the 2003 Special Selection Cabernet were off the wall. Unfortunately, not much is available outside of CA, but would love for Gary to try out the 2005 Silver Label Cabernet Sauvignon.

Joseph Phelps Insignia 1998. I was given a bottle as a wedding present and it’s sitting in my basement waiting for a special occasion. I want to know whether it’s worth waiting for! Thanks Gary!

QOTD: Try some of the “less is more” wine makers. Farella, Elke, Acacia,Ridge, and others who avoid additives and nasty clarifiers. It would be cool if you could try and explain the difference between artificial flavors and real terroir type flavors. I’ve seen you hint at this many times before and a show dedicated to it would be appreciated.

the red head review probably was the single funniest moment for me in WLTV history…great job. QOTD: i dont have a specific wine but I have been getting into Viura lately…so i would love to hear what you think of it.

I’m with you on the gnocchi and the boar. There is an awesome Italian restaurant here in Charleston, SC that gets wild boar from North Carolina and it is delicious. They also have a solid wine bar where I have tried some of the pricier Italian varietals by the glass without dropping $50 on a bottle. Another thing that I’ve had there and loved is the Allegrini Recioto (a dessert wine with awesomely rich fruit).

QOTD: I would like to see you taste a wine that I have had before and can remember (my wine memory isn’t always so great). I’d also love for it to be something that I can easily get again to see if I recognize any of the aromas and flavors you call out. My wine experience has hardly any overlap with the wines you’ve tasted so I’d like to see if your palate matches up with mine at all or if you’re just full of baloney.

Wine Library doesn’t carry any of these (what’s up with that), so I’ll give you a bunch of choices, but pick the ones at the top.

Clay Station 2003 Malbec – I though this was a solid value; it’s a Calilfornia Malbec so that’s a bit different too.

Jessup Cellars 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon – This would be my first choice but it’s probably hard to find on short notice.

Arrowood 2004 Cote de Lune Blanc – This wasn’t one of my favorites but I feel like it’s one of the whites that I’ve had that was complex and accessible at the same time.

Robert Mondavi 2005 Private Selection Pinot Noir – I feel like this fills a spot in the value Pinot Noir category. It’s probably not characteristic of Pinot Noir though (I don’t know), so maybe that doesn’t make your grade.

Anakena 2005 ONA Red Blend – I really like this. It’s not expensive, it’s from South America, and it’s a blend. I feel like it’s a bit of a one-dimensional fruit bomb but I still like it; I’m curious to see what you think.

DeLoach 2004 OFS Pinot Noir – This wine was awesome; it doesn’t really fit my criteria because shipping charges from California push it beyond what I’m willing to pay for a second bottle, but what the heck.

Gary, you personally recommended Rhone Rebel. At 6 bones you can’t beat the price. Give that one a shot on Friday.

By the way give me some Marshall University props. A quarterback I know you like came from my school.

    Keep it up V.

Too bad the Amarone’s failed to create much thunder on their own.
QOTD: Kirkland wines from Costco. Let’s see if you’ve got the “corks” to taste their wines – preferably blind against similar varietals.
They have Chilean, Bordeaux, Chianti, Aussie Shiraz and even an Oregon Pinot. You got the “corks” to taste those? We’ll see.

    Grape Expectations

QOTD: Tablas Creek Cotes de Tablas Blanc (WL item # 30759)(http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=30759)
IMHO, the best of the California Rhone-style wines. I generally prefer the reds but you don’t seem to have any at WL (at least at the moment).
