I recently tried the Carnival of love and have the enchanted path. I shook the wine quite a bit as the instructions stated. It was not a 98 point wine to me as others had rated it, but I liked it. The Boxer sparkling shiraz was VERY good. This will replace champagne on new years eve for me.

Thank you for this episode. I am not a fan of Mollydooker. I think the wines are way overrated. I was recommended the 2006 Carnival of Love a few years back at a wine store, and I thought I would give it a whirl. It had a ridiculous score (like 98 pts, I think), and was less than a bill. I dont think I have ever felt more ripped of by a high level wine. It was flabby, completely out of balance and one dimensional. I hoped with some time in the decanter the wine would show better, but it just fell apart even more. These wines are not meant to age, and are not my cup of tea at all. I prefer wine that has some depth and complexity, not just over the top lush fruit and 16% alcohol. I like some fruit bomb wines, and there are some awesome Australian wines out there, but not Mollydooker (or at least in my experience, I have not tried the velvet glove). I think you said it perfectly when you commented on the packaging and marketing of the wines. In that they have been very successful, and thats about all that the wines really bring to the table. This is the kind of wine that I really dont like, it doesnt let the vineyard speak at all, and is all about simple fruit. Its wine, for people that dont want to drink wine, that tastes like wine. Its a major pass for me. Great show, I thought it was interesting that the more midrange wines scored a bit better, but still not in line with all of the hype. As Public Enemy says “Dont believe the hype!” More and more becoming a big fan. I like your honesty.
