Great episode. You could destroy Dennis Miller in a rant-off any day.

Just had my first attempt at the old Alsace-Gewurtraminer-with-a-spicy-dish. Didn’t work out too well. When cooking with Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin’ sauce, BE CAREFUL!

QOTD: I think I’m too young and immature for that question to apply to me. But I’ll tweak it. Best thing like that I’ve had is a couple months ago going to my girlfriend’s condo (You’d like her GV, she’s Belarussian) with my 2002 Pieve Del Vescovo Lucciaio (I’m a dryhead), eating some delicious pasta/chicken breast dish she made, and watching the NBA Draft the whole time. To me, that is (was) an amazing night.

    In defense of Gary-

To all the nay sayers that believe Gary’s fan are “freaks” and don’t know anything about wine: keep in mind that some of us actually work in the wine business, selling, buying, importing, and auctioning these wines. Some of us have been featured in articles, and in the vast pages of “serious” wine media.

If one finds no fun in wine, there is absolutley no point. Wine should hopefully be a joyful experience, and no matter how one chooses to express that joy it is their own choice entirely. Is there intimidation that
Gary is more bombastic than your average eonophile? Perhaps if James Laube actually showed emotion we should fear him. If Gary so chooses to share his personal opinion one can take it or leave it, but one can never fault a man for speaking up.

To all the nay sayers please look somewhere else to focus your negativity, as is most of us “freaks” are having a really good time.

QOTD: Otto: Atleast two cheese courses, pizza, Caponata, Franciacorta, Brancaia Illitraia, gelato, vin santo, espresso. With the old crew Kenny, Robby, Andy and Rose.

    Gary,

I recently read, “Timequake,” by Kurt Vonnegut who made the following observation that instantly made me think of your naysayers, “She was acculturated! Acculturated persons are those who find that they are no longer treated as the sort of people they thought they were, because the outside world has changed…’Nothing wrecks any kind of love more effectively than the discovery that your previously acceptable behavior has become ridiculous.’”

    I feel sorry for them.

    Anyway.
QOTD: Something Piedmonte-ese with truffles, a barolo or barbaresco, and the special person I hope to someday meet.

Cheers! What a tour-de-force episode, I don’t think the Conan crowd appreciates just how funny you are, the bit with the Grand Marnier rant, the family here was cracking up. I want to be the spinoff of winelibrary like Maude and Jeffersons back in the old days. Give me syndication rights! This is a gem!

    Gary,

Great show! Don’t worry about the wine snobs; change the wine world in SPITE of them. Love the show and don’t change who you are.

QOTD: My best friends from college a great Barolo and probably a steak dinner.

    Keep it real Vaynerchuk!

FRAT BOY? Freaks that know nothing? Wine was never invented to be a separator of the classes, just the opposite. France doesn’t want people like this guy. Get used to it, jerk, ordinary people are getting educated about wine, thanks to Gary V. and I guess you’re going to have to find some other hobby to raise your self up above other people. He sounds like the kind of guy who buys a Ferrari and never drives it, just keeps polishing it in the garage. France doesn’t want a guy like you, maybe North Korea, yeah, you and Buddy Holly sipping some Hennesy watching porn. That sounds more up your alley….

I just have to point out something cute. I was just reading over our comments- it reads funny. Everyone’s riled up over some of the e-mails Gary got and we’re all upset spewing “Oh, kiss my a$$! You suck! … argh argh argh! … ” then “QOTD… a lovely filet and creme brulee with a delicate reisling with my fabulous spouse” Classic.

    Loved the rant!!!

What some of these people who write you, but haven’t met you is that you are just as enthusiastic and sincere one on one. Stay real!

Oh SNAP! Somebody did NOT call GV a jerkoff. We’re protective of our Gary…don’t make us release the Vaynerthugs. Mkay.
I don’t have any Thundercats (to my recollection, unless they’re in the attic), but let me know if you find yourself wishing you had one of the Strawberry Shortcake dolls around. That I can help with.
QOTD: Italian (dish/pizza depends on mood), friends back home, wine: anything that everyone can agree on.

Gary, I’ve been watching for a few weeks now and I have to say that it’s your enthusiasm, energy, and personality that keeps me coming back everyday (I check the site multiple times a day waiting for every update). I’m 25 and just started drinking wine about two years ago while I was in school in Virginia so I need all the help I can get. But I love the show, don’t change a damn thing. Keep it real!

Gary, with you all the way – never take any cr@p about your family!

QOTD: Start with an appetizer of Onset Oysters and Littlenecks with Verdicchio, Osso Bucco served on a bed of saffron risotto and roasted vegetables with a ‘90 Mascarello Monprivato, cannoli with espresso for dessert, and a Barbaresco Grappa just for sippin’. Dinner should take at least 3 hours and have my extended family present. If you’re in the neighborhood Gary, you’re welcomed!

I’m going to have to agree with Mudd’s comments. I’m still a huge fan and I look forward to your show everyday, but it seems to be getting a little more about the other stuff and less about the wine each day. With that said, I loved the Conan show and I’m looking forward to see where this goes.

QOTD: I’m old school – juicy filet, potatoes au gratin and an aged Bordeaux with my girlfriend.

The Thundercats hail from the planet Thundera. It was destroyed and then reformed as New Thundera.

    Good ep.

    Dear Gary,

I loved your appearance on the Conan O’Brien show.

It was Very Funny, Entertaining, a thoroughly fun filled wine class.

I gave you a perfect score of 100, and Conan too got a highmark for being a sport; you were full of all the adjectives reserved for describing a perfect wine.

DO NOT CHANGE COURSE, STAY AS YOU ARE.

And to those upstarts, stuffy neck, snobs, have more wine and do not smile too quickly, so as to prevent cracking them cheeks

    Love Ya

Keep on spreading the love, Gary. We’re gaining more Vayniac “freaks” by the minute. Those envious nincompoops will never get anywhere.

Great Show! Way to go Gary, don’t take any crap.
I liked the shout out for Walla Walla wines.
QOTD: Nice medium rare steak, 2003 Quilceda Creek, with and family and friends.

Hi, I’m a freak who knows nothing about wine!

I’m thinking either a Provencal steak with Bordeaux (if it’s grilling season) or leg of lamb with Madiran (if it’s winter). That’s a start.

Speaking of which, I cracked one of those 2003 Sansonnets out of curiosity to see if I wanted any more … sweet merciful crap, you weren’t kidding about letting it air out all day. Nice stuff, but four hours barely seemed to put a dent in it. More dirt than I expected though, and I don’t mind that one bit.

    Hey Gary,

I am with you all the way on a big rasberry to all the critics who wish to preserve an elitist (imagined or real) vino attitude. But please lighten up on aligning yourself with the ckc (college kid crowd). I know you are a numbers guy and the majority of those face-twitter-book hits come from that demographic. But I was hooked by your challenge to develop a personal palate. Your theatrics are awesome but your shameless beggin’ for love has worn thin with this older, non-fratoid. Your audience must be more varied than your critics suggest.

    keep the thunder comin’

WAY 2 GO G-MAN. I’m touched with all that defending the family stuff, but let’s move on…
