Great show. I have no experience with Cote Rotie that I can recall. QOTD: I used to, once in a while. It’s actually very pleasant to drink wine while watching WLTV. Sometimes WLTV lights up my craving for wine. Maybe I’ll watch the next episode with a glass in hand. I’m also expecting the Friday, Aug 24 ep. I didn’t buy the wines, but Antonio Touriño did, and we’re going to get together for this.

A trip to Canada, eh? :-) WOOHOOO! It would be awesome to have you here! Bring the Thunder Show to the Niagara region! :-) There are some awesome wineries around the Beamsville Bench, Niagara on the Lake, and Vineland. A couple suggestions: Thirty Bench (awesome riesling); Stratus; Malivoire; Fielding Estate (one of my personal favorites); Tawse; and Inniskillin (for icewines!)

QOTD: Generally, no. I usually watch WLTV either on my iPod or in the morning while getting ready to start my day.

i love cote-rotie. was turned on to the northern rhone after experimenting with several 03 st josephs and crozes-hermitages.

QOD: yes, if i get home early enough to catch the show in the PM, say about 33%-50% of the time.

Question 1 for GV: What do you do with all the answers to the QOTDs?
Question 2 for GV: Where did Pierre Rovani end up? He was my fave of the WA staff (partic re pinots). Miss his perspective on the 05s.

QOTD: I only drink along with Gary when I have his two or four pack (ordered mine from two episodes ago.. pretty excited to taste along again).

Anyone else had a problem viewing Jenn P’s Virgin to expensive wine video? says “video not found”?

QOTD: Are you kidding?? I try to have a glass with every episode I watch! It just completes the whole experience for me. Thanks for asking.

Love the show. Just thought I would let you know we have sherbet dip in the UK.

Glad to see a Cote Rotie show today. I’m attending a tasting at the Texas Sommelier Conference this weekend that will focus on the Rhone, and I don’t know much about Northern Rhone wines.

QOTD: Rarely. Like several others, I usually don’t watch WLTV until quite late (midnight or later), so I’ve already had my glass or two for the night.

Great Episode Gary! Cote Rotie, a “profound wine”.
QOTD: Yes, usually, i watch the show after dinner, so i’m relaxed watching you while sipping a vintage port or Tokaji, depending of what kind of wine i drank that day.

QOTD: Yes…not only wine, but sometimes cheese too. I tried doing the treadmill with WLTV on the ipod and it didn’t work. I just wanted to stop running.

My 2 cents on the point system = The industry standard…for better or worse…is the 100 point system. So what. Just point everybody to corkd.com. When you have your own say (as I do with my on FREE corkd.com account) in what is or is not 100 points there is a level playing field. The problem IS NOT the 100 point system. The problem IS that too many people are afraid to say what is or is not 100 points on their own. Or in Vayniac language…too many people are afraid to “trust their own palate”.

And a big congrats on Revis. (Go Seahawks.)

great show…I love learning about specific regions.

QOTD: hell yes i do…I just started work in the tasting room of a winery and we get to bring home half empty bottles at the end of the night. im swimming in the stuff!

Hey Gary. I noticed as of late you have been torn on the whole 89 vs 90 etc point issue. Well with what you bring across in the show maybe a simpler system would be a good idea. More of a way to say ok this is worth a try or this taste like donkey pee more than 86 points which no one outside of the “wine world” really could wrap there head around. “What makes an 86 better than an 85 and should i buy it?”

I purpose a simple 5 star rating system that would still allow you to offer your opinion on purchase or not well at the same time giving the viewers room to make there own opinion on the wine itself. Here is a break down WLTV style :) .

1 Star: Pay someone on the street to take the bottle from you.
2 Stars: You’d be better off drinking Kool-aid but it might get you a buzz.
3 Stars: Drinkable but not the girl you want to take to the prom.
4 Stars: Good buy. Interesting taste at a good price.
5 Stars: Run over your grandma, sell your kidney, break the piggy, and buy this wine!

Thanks for the shout out… though it kinda made me sad :( But, nonetheless… Good to have you back.
QOTD: Yes, 80% of the time.

G- You hate my Niners because they know how to beat your Jets asses. You better watch the smack on SF teams, otherwise someone might replace your Araujo with Two Buck the next time you’re hanging near the Bay.

    QOTD: 90%.

That first cheese tasting face was one of Gary’s best ever!

QOTD: I have done it before!

So I hear you are coming up for the Jets/Buffalo game. Any plans to go out in Buffalo??

QOTD: Almost all the time… right now trying the Red Heads 2005 “Yard Dog” Petit Verdot/Merlot/Cab from S.E. Australia. 15.0% alcohol… it burns! It’s a dark one, and the nose is pretty nice, but the alcohol pretty much eviscerates the fruit.

I’m interested to see what you’d think on wines from us Canadians…

First time post! Bit ashamed, as I’ve been watching for like 6 months now…

QOTD – Yep, its a habit I started months ago. I start watching 1/2 hour before bed, and have a glass of wine. I rarely drink wine with meals, prefer to just concentrate on the wine alone – unless its a steak, then pairing it with a nice Cabernet can bring tears to my eyes :)

LA Sat or Sunday? My girlfriend and I would like to be part of a get together if one happens!

Thanks for the Cote Rotie! awesome!
QOTD: 50% of the time, I’ll be drinking wine with WLTV. MOST 0f the time, I’m pulling out my credit card instead!

QOTD : I would like to every time but do only about 30% of the time .

Hey Gary! Wonderful to see the Cote Rotie show!

You recommended the Le Gallet Blanc to me just before the April Chicago party and it rocked my Cote Rotie snob friends!

On the Guigal 2003 Cote Rotie – glad I ordered a case from you earlier in June and it’s contently cushioned in your storage for shipping this fall!

Cheers and kudos to a great episode!

QOD – I rarely drink wine while watching WLTV.

    Cheers!

I am going to go this weekend and look for some of these wines in town. There are a couple of stores in town that should carry at least one of them.

QOTD: I don’t usually drink wine while I watch, because I watch very late at night, and then go straight to bed. Not much time to devote to the bottle.

Thanks for mentioning the good and bad vintages for the Cote Roties, you should keep doing it on the days your do single varietals. As always, you rock! Got my bottles for the TASTE-ALONG next week, so you’ll have at least one Arizonan (and a couple of his buddies) watchin’ along and tastin’ along!!

    QOTD: Sure, sometimes.

Hey Gary, I too am a yard sale/auction/estate sale guy. I’m curious to know what’s your biggest find at a sale? Not necessarily the craziest thing but biggest value?

  25. August 16, 2007

    Robin

QOTD: Only if I watch right after dinner. Not that often.

Looking forward to Cote Roties. I want to know what liquid bacon fat tastes like.
