This episode almost got me crying!

We have been to Bordeaux some weeks ago and where able to make a serious wine testing at Pichon Lalande (we have been blessed as we booked the regular but as they had a professional testing before they had far more bottles open than usual and not only the wine-tourist-stuff). We tested the reserve and the first for ‘01, ‘04 and (tadahhhaahh!) ‘05. And… we have been blasted away! We did some Chateau’s during the trip but this was exceptional. 04 is tremendous, 01 is special and slightly better but ‘05 is allready far better than the others. Belive everything people tell you about ‘05 (at least in this league). Well, and we realized we will not be able to afford this wine in the future. The Chateau refused to accept any reservations for the ‘05 and told us it will start at least with 200 € to the resellers (Gary, I hope WL can get some…).

So now for the next dinner (it will be an ‘impress your boss’ dinner) we will have open the comtesse and the baron as ‘04 side by side. I am very excited allready.

Get us more of this stuff Gary!!

Gary – the shows are great. I make my wife wear the WLTV wristband. For some reason putting on a wristband just makes you feel good. Like watching WLTV!

QOD- I now have my sister and her husband in Charlotte,NC watching and a good friend(also my stockbroker) in Tampa watching. For xmas last year I gave them both a 6pak of wine of different wines from wine library, they are already asking for them again.

Great show! I love the additional “educational” emphasis…Bordeaux surely lends itself to an educational bias. Pichon Lalande was the second Bordeaux I ever tasted. I think it was the 1970. I loved it then…a real epiphany…and have probably bought more of it than any other Bordeaux through the years. I loved your Bordeaux descriptors. I could literally “taste” the wine through them.

Congrats on your first 300 shows! I’ll be stunned, and disappointed, if there are not thousands more.

    Gary,

WOW! What a show. I love it! I am First time Lurker, kind of sad to say, I missed 300 episodes. But, boy what a show to catch. Pauillac, presented well. I knew very little about the this wine. Maybe considered a newbie for foreign wines, but love them just the same. Domestics are a hobby, if not an obsession. Hopefully I can catch the old episodes.

And as far as the iPhone, maybe it would be nice if you gave it to me. I am a networker at heart and would do incredible marketing of your site (Which I just came across on a search and loved) amongst my friends, family, clients, and vendors (Many wine snobs, newbies and everything in between). Maybe it would go to the “Newest Viewer” of WLTV? I would tell EVERYBODY! Imagine that, anyone I come in contact with here in the West Coast or places I travel, will make a comment of my iPhone. And I would tell them who I got it from and all about your Library. How wonderful!

Don’t know if this will really happen, either way, Great Show. I’ll now continue to catch you on WLTV. Many thanks. -K

    GV,

Love the show and have watched since the first few eps…GV, Inspiration comes from with-in not from this blog….stick to your roots the ideas will flow…Don’t give away the i-phone, keep giving away your passion, that will “change the wine world”, and fuel the idea/”lack of love” void that you are feeling. I love wine and have gained so much from WLTV thanks so much!

    Gary,

Top reasons why you had less than 200 comments for episode 300:

    1) Most were too drunk to post by 9 pm friday (me – we were on wine #6 by then)
    2) Too busy at Vayniac party to post (I was)
    3) Your singing. Nuff said.
    4) There’s actually only 4 people who watch the show. Your mom, Kahuna, TimF, and me. Your mom could only think of 190+ ways to say “gary is great” and “300 more.” She must really love you.
    5) Facebook crowd was too busy popping pimples and making fake ID’s.

The wines really were fun for episode 300. Thanks again.

QOTD: I love the epiosode with Sunday Mountain Sauv Blanc. -I can still remember my wife saying “he’s so obnoxious” – THEN laughing all the way to the end of the ep. The Voga episode was great too. Our research lab started watching daily after that.

    3000 more!!!

Gary, have you ever had a tasting of Mer Soleil Chard. on the show?

    If so, what episode?

I have often let my dislike for the French cloud my palette. I seriously feel they export the expensive wines to the USA(because we are ALL rich) and keep the good, less costly wines in Europe. I am hoping your review of Pauillac can cleanse my palette so my wife and friends can get as excited as you when we uncork a ‘01 Pichon Lalande.

PS- Loved episode #122. I am a big fan of Calif-Cabs. Go Mondavi!!!

Gary, totally enjoyed episode 301 , particularly your “intense” review of Chateau Pichon Baron 2004 and 2001. Besides giving the great detail about the nose, and flavor, I like how you matched it up to Parker’s reviews. This is important for me since very few bottles that I purchase are in the $65 to $75 range. This definitly makes it easier to approach purchasing a few bottles with less risk.

Its nice to see SOME of the Big boys make an appearance. Could you imagine a first growth tasting on WLTV? What would it take?
    :)

…I was able to go to a tasting of the 04’s and 03’s of over 50 Bordeaux wines. Each had 03 and 04 to pour. I enjoyed so many of the 04’s over the 03’s and the majority of the Chateau reps did also.

QOTD.Some friends of mine telling me while “camping” they discovered and were watching vidcasts on line of some wild wine guy who does tastings on line. They loved it and couldn’t wait to tell me. My response was…You are now a Vayniac but don’t be a lurker! They still are ;)

    gary,
love the show! the more i drink, the more i gravitate back to the old world. there is soooo much there, so interesting, complex and the second/third growths can be tremendous values….

couple of general comments — i know that you have a book in you, maybe 2, 3, 4….. anything brewing?

about the iphone. i agree with one of the others above, have a show based on suggestions of great finds. maybe its the vayniacs’ list of the best wines – sort of a WS 100 list. not just the best, but with other considerations… You taste, and you call the number 1.

    THAnks again.

ps, i am just opening a mixed case of Languedoc wines that I picked up at Wine Library on Sunday. Just searching the region…

Same here, people don’t get it so I stopped trying. There are plenty of Vayniacs to enjoy this with, IMO.

    Nice Pinot glass!!
I am still primarily a lurker but I’ll give you an idea for your I-Phone contest anyway: Have viewers recommend a wine that they like and that WL does NOT carry. Then, have a playoff of the top wines that you pick and the one that is the best will thus determine the winner of the I-Phone. You can have variations of this contest in the rules. For instance, only accept “regional” nominations: Texas, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, or gasp, New Jersey. Maybe you will discover some new wines that WL can carry as the result of this contest.

OK, lurker no longer! All the second wines I’ve tasted out of Bordeaux, whether left bank or right, have not been worth the $$. Generally very tannic (they’re usually quite young) or thin. They’re a second wine for a reason. I’d always recommend paying up for the first wine.

    I-Phone Contest:

Create a quiz that has questions from various episodes (ie: when did “sniffy sniff” start?).

Set a deadline to turn in the quiz.

Those with correct answers are entered into a drawing.

Draw a name out of a spit bucket on an episode of WLTV.

Iphone challenge. Give the nation a list of the twenty or so wines that you will be tasting next week and have the nation guess your palate, we have watched you over time and now we know our palate and your palate. Just like you can know Parker’s palate when it comes to BIG BOLD FRUITY Bombs… Whoever guesses in exact order with the closest scores gets the phone.
