GV you rock! I watched the Sherry episode not to long ago and had to get off my butt to start dinner. I came back to post my comment and what do I see before me!! Another NEW episode! WOOT :D I’m anxious to hear what you’ve got to say about these shiraz’s also… I do really like the fruit bombs (they popped my cherry or grape rather into the world of wine)

oh and Sherry, never knew it was even remotely that complex and DRY? wth lol that shocked me :)

    Gary Vaynerhunk darling,
Yes, we love you. Yes, we love anything that brings the Thunder. While there’s lots of fans of the “manly”, seripus, Old World wine you so love, some of us girls eagerly await your next sweet and fruity episode. THE GIRLIE EPISODE! Oh wait, that wouldn’t be politically correct. THE FRUY EPISODE! There’s gotta be some serious late harvest everything that still fascinates you. Bring on the sugar!

    Great show

Price points are a little out of my range for a fruit bomb.

GV, do you ever think of waiting to check the scores from Parker, etc. until after you taste the wines? It seems like you are setting youself up for some frame error if you know other scores before you taste. I know when you are in the retail world it is hard to avoid finding out, but it seems like you would have a cleaner slate if you were to taste the wines before taking a look at the scores.

I visited the Adelaide area last year. Especially impressed with the dental color effect which actually panicked me for a few hours until I realized it was temporary. I guess those guys really pack the pigment into the bottle! I like the GV300 plus vibe, especially the information you’re providing. Enjoyed the Dolcetto episode alot too! Good info.

Great episode, I just bought the Innocent Bystander shiraz/viognier, but got the 2003 instead of the (tasted) 2004, hope it’s as good, wine spectator says not so much, what do they know, excited to try these new Shiraz-es. Jeff from the Walnut Orchard

Gary, Ryan may be right about his Sherry comment, but he dropped at least 3 or 4 typos in his short post. So you keep on rollin’ with your humbled but brilliant self, ’cause you’re kickin’ ass and taking names, whether you like it… or not!

  37. August 29, 2007

    YES…….

Two episodes at a time is almost as good as two………………….

  39. August 29, 2007

hey gary, how about doing the wine tasting with your viewers, but dont tell them your score on a certain wine or a couple wines, and the person who is the closest to your score wins it, then if there are more then one person with the same score, then you pick it out of a hat, makes it a little more interesting!!!

  40. August 29, 2007

OMG! TWO SHOWS IN ONE DAY! BEST DAY EVER! until tommorrow that is……. :)

WHOA! TWO eps in one day — first double-header ever?
What’s the word, Darlene O.? RIDONKULOUS!

For giving us the 2-in-1, for copping to the Sherry goof, from the first swirly-swirl & sniffy-sniff to the last tasty-taste, I say RIGHT ON, GAR’!

And if what I heard about tomorrow’s show is true, I can’t WAIT for the Vaynereactions!

    Martin

Wow, a bonus episode is just what I needed today! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’ve been predicting for a while that Gary Vaynerchuk will be adding the title of ‘winemaker’ to his resume. What do I win if I’m right?

  46. August 29, 2007

    TROC

I’ll leave the Australian wines to you and Parker. Every bottle I’ve tried has the same distilled water flat taste with some grape juice concentrate and a little vodka. I’m surprised they scored so high. They must have a huge mark-up, oh well, that’s business. No idea about tomorrow, a new set?

  47. August 29, 2007

    Jameus

You gave us two episodes, so I’ll give you two comments ;) It’s the least I could do for ya. I enjoyed watching you taste some of the better juice from down under. Blind tastings are great lol. I’d like to see you do a blind episode with a few different syrah based blends to see if you can nail them and of course to give us your notes on them :) I know that down there in Aus. they’re really experimenting since they don’t have to follow the same kinds of guidelines other areas of the world do.

  48. August 29, 2007

    John Witherspoon (J DUB)

Fun episode, wasn’t a huge fan of Aussie SHiraz 2 years ago, I thought they were TOO BIG, not I enjoy them when the time is right. DO more blind tasting, it is fun.

I put this in the thread too, but you know i have to give you comment love.
QOTD:I think it has something to do with a revamp of CORKD!! CORKDTHUNDER.com maybe.

    that is my prediction

So THAT is where the chirping comes from!! I was so glad to see the rest of the office. Very cool episode. I should try my own blind tasting next time I open more than one bottle.

  50. August 29, 2007

    Capt M

GREAT SHOW!!! Without a doubt, one of my favorite episodes ever. I did not comment yesterday because I’ve been so freaking busy, but the Dolceto episode was really wonderful. Wine Library TV has been a part of our daily lives for the last year and a half, and we have a lot of expectation about tomorrow’s announcement. My answer to the QOTD is; Gary’s (and Lizzy’s) baby is about to be born. Concepción’s answer is: Gary is changing the show’s set. We shall know soon enough. It’s all fun!

  51. August 29, 2007

    J-Pipes

Love ya, babe. Looking forward to tomorrow :) I’m on board, whatever it may be.
P.S. I HEART AUSSIE SHIRAZ!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for this fun ep.

Thanks for episode Two today brought me back to life after episode 303. I liked the blind format today and the peak outside the office. Can’t wait for tomorrow I’ve been with the countdown since the beggining and now it’s here,AWWWWWESOME!!!! Thanks Gary and WLTV crew.

Last comment I ragged on picky people, but boom boom fruit bombs from downunder are a group of wines I need to try more of.

Only thing is the high scores rock the house but those money bomb prices aren’t gonna cut it for this POH bastard.

  56. August 29, 2007

    QOTD
You will change format of WLTV and go live.

  58. August 29, 2007

    Steve Lambert

Enjoyed the show. When I hear “shiraz”, I think $8 wine served at the Chamber of Commerce monthly mixer. It’s great to see and hear about the high end stuff from Oz.

  59. August 29, 2007

    Bernie Bearnaise

I guess Penfold’s Grange is the standard. I’ve never tasted any of the wines you blinded tonight. I’m amazed at the high score vs. price by Parker for these obviously high end wines. Since Australia is foreign wine territory to me it gives me more confidence to look these up and give them a try. I have heard that Australia is food challenged but their wine is charging hard. I spend more time in the Cotes du Rhone which still makes more syrah then the Aussies. I also am of the opinion that blends make a wine rounder, more complex and balanced and that takes experience and time. Some Vin de Pays are blending Cabernet/Syrah like the Aussies in a berry meets pepper blend.

One thing that I always forget to ask is do you get taste fatigue after tasting so many wines like you did in Idaho? I was shocked to read a quote by Robert Parker that said he has tasted 300,000 wines. You would think that would pickle his tongue and leave it blue like likamaid used to. Your nose readings are so sensitive compared to mine that I want to grab the glass from the monitor and say I’ll have what he’s having!

  60. August 29, 2007

    hockeywiner

I am not a lurker!! LOVE the show. Every day can’t wait to see what silly things you will do to ‘bring the THUNDER’ to us. What happened to the ’sniffy sniff’? You have me saying that all the time now. That was SO unique, bring back the SNIFFY SNIFF !

  61. August 29, 2007

    james marinello

Thanks for trying the octavis for me!! I have a btl and haven’t tried it yet. Bought it on the rec of the wine steward at my local shop!! Not I can’t wait!!!

Great ep GV. Love the Kilikanoon Oracle and Yalumba Octavius. I have had both over the years and they never disappoint ………….. when ya want a big wine.

  66. August 29, 2007

    laposte

I know, I know forget the scores trust your own… But why would I look at these Australian Shiraz rather than the 2004 and 2001 Bordeaux from earlier this week? I guess ther is more to wine than just a Q/P ratio.

  67. August 29, 2007

    Pastafari Pirate

Thanks for the double-episode day, Gary. QOTD: tomorrow is the day you become a Detroit Lions fan.

  70. August 29, 2007

    jason

is it my computer or your system, but i had it downloaded then it stopped 3/4 of the way through… wuz up?
anyhow, not much experience with aussi fruit bombs, but you said that the one wine was from the chapoutier people, like michele and he rocks my world. so curious. my guess is that the wine showing charcoal, “paris smoking a pipe” which we have seen before, is chapoutiers wine. he is no lollypop licker.
QOTD: by the looks of comments, you might have put the question in our hands for you? if so, why not have a wine or two with a real wine dinner. first course scallops with cream and butter paired with X and a leg of lamb with Y. maybe a little desert action aka sauterne

  71. August 29, 2007

    Todd

Gary just wanted to tell you that I got my latest copy of Business 2.0 in the mail the other day and finally read the article on Fred Franzia. Before I even read the article I was wondering what you thought about Fred and as I was reading the article they you are with a comment. Great comment by the way, put those fools in their place. Keep up the good work and you’ve converted this Goose drinker to a wine lover again.

like the blind bags. Good to hear comments without you knowing the labels. WOuld like to see more blind tastings.
WOTD – You are going to work for Wine Spectator. You sold yourself to “the man”.

  75. August 29, 2007

    John Farrin

Interesting! However when we throw in QPR vs 2005 futures from Bordeaux maybe the pricier Aussies don’t come off so well. I know it’s all apples and oranges but still…

QOTD: You’ve purchased the New York Jets :)

  76. August 29, 2007

Been lurking for a while. Wanted to say hi and love the show BEFORE EVERYTHING CHANGES…

We were fated to come together online. I live in the foothills of the THUNDER mountains, Huachuca, Apache for thunder mountain. Look forward to end of the day when I watch the show and elucidate myself, not what you think. Thanks. Not many people can make wine fun, don’t lose that.

“I dream of opening up a restaurant in new york city one day, wine oriented, where I sell a wine on the list for the same price at the wine library store. So look for that in the coming years”

Two episodes….wooooo….almost missed the second one. Loved the episode but just to much $$$ for me.

  83. August 30, 2007

    slambert

    Great episode…as always.

How can I resist a wine with a nose Spree? Have you tried Chewy Spree? Those are way too addicting.

I picked up some Kilikanoon, I will give it a taste, and report back when I do.

  84. August 30, 2007

    Brewer

Ok, emerging from lurker status for the first time … guilted me into it. Been watching since early on.

Loved the show, blind is good, please do it more.

You made it easy on yourself and less interesting for us by picking 3 expensive Shiraz’s that all had high scores from Bob. Next time, show us your skils and throw in a ringer 20 dollar 89 point Shiraz in there blind and it will be much more entertaining.

Noticed the show has been better lately, you have settled down a bit and focussed more on the wines ;-) We appreciate you.

Tomorrow you annonuce Vayniacs start appearing on your show ?

  85. August 30, 2007

    Kent Benson, CSW

Kudos on the single blind tasting. Double blind would have been even more interesting.

Great episode. Kilikanoon rocks it. I haven’t had the Oracle because I’m against buying fruit bombs in the +$50 price range. I mentioned this before, but try the Shiraz/Grenache in the $15-20 range. 92pts Parker. Now we’re talking QPR.

QOTD – As of tomorrow the wine world has been changed. Thank you. Good night. Please tip your waiters.

Oh, and we will definitely be TOT SER. All over the place really. TOTSER.

    Big time.

  89. August 30, 2007

    TR

That stuff looked so purply, the color alone reminded me of the Prince of St. Julien, Leoville Barton. Any correlation in flavor? And why is the Dapper Msr. Barton’s wine so dang purple? Las Cases is kinda purple but not really anyother wine on the Gironde or Garonne that I can think of. My QOTD-whussup wit purple? Your QOTD- you’re going on Leno….or maybe Daily Show…or Bill O’Wrongly….Oprah?

QOTD: I sense a whole new design, a merging of Cork’d and WLTV into one supersite, and a WHOLE new look for the Thunder Show.

    Three predictions!

Because thunder should strike THREE times!

  93. August 30, 2007

    Ben Jansen

    G’day everyone. Especially Gary.

Gary comming from Australia (South Australia) I can tell you with confidence that the Shiraz’s you were trying aren’t that good and a terrible reprisentation of Australian Shiraz. Please ask an Australian a local if you will on choosing a fruit bomb Shiraz from Australia.
I am more than happy to help you pick better than your selecion on episode 304.

Some wineries which typically produce fruit bomb shiraz – Saltram – Kaesler – Grant Burge – Woodstock…….. The list goes on and on and on…

Otherwise good to see Australian wines on the show.
Keep up the good work Gary.

  94. August 30, 2007

    Ivan C.

Nice episode. I’ve been reluctant to spend serious money on the big Aussie fruit bombs as of late, but I guess it’s all about balance.

QOTD: Maybe the big announcement is that Gary is about to become a Patriots fan…

  95. August 30, 2007

Good episode, I don’t know why, but you displayed a VERY interesting energy today…. reaaaaaaal weird…. QOTD: ARE YOU MOVING TO TV? CHARGING? NOTHING AT ALL, JUST A CUTE LITTLE NUMBER YOU THOUGHT WE’LL NEVER REACH???????????????……

Can we stop quoting Parker scores?!? – he’s done more damage to the wine industry than phylloxera. If I wanted Parker scores I’d subscribe to Wine Oakvicate.

HELL yeah! Bonus Show! Way to make Thursday less dissapointing!

Thanks for the education Gary… I knew NOTHING about the Jets when I started watching WLTV… I’m learning new stuff every day! Question though… I’ve heard them and caught glimpses – what’s with the birds? Who do they belong to and why do you have sooo many?

Oh, and I love Aussie Shiraz… I digg old world classic wine, but new world “bling bling” can rock the house too! good choice for a show topic! I really want to try the wine #2 with the “candy shop element” – sounds great!

QOTD: Gary – you are UNPREDICTABLE… no idea what’s coming, but i’m on the edge of my seat! I might actually watch TONIGHT instead of tomorrow morning like I usually do!

  103. August 30, 2007

    JerseyGirl turned CNY vayniac

QOTD: Is Gary taking the show on the road? Is he gonna visit all the Vayniacs!?! “YOU plus a little bit ‘o ME – together we’re changing the wine world whether you like it or not!”

  104. August 30, 2007

    Bossman

Nice memorabilia (even if most of it is green), wow, you must have a half dozen Jet footballs in that case, all signed?

If I even happen to be in WL the same time as you, I want a guided tour. I’ll reciprocate if you ever show up at my workplace (hey you like numbers you’d have a ball on the trading floor).

Two for Wednesday, eh? Dave Herman (or was it Dennis Elsas?) would approve.
Now I’m dating myself. How about doing a BruceJuice show, showcasing wines from winemakers named Bruce?

I am currently basementing 2 of the three you tasted, unfortunately neither is the Octavius. I’ve only spent >$70 on a non-restaurant bottle once or twice. I’ve got 2 kids to put through college.

QOTD- I don’t know but it’s gonna have to be pretty huge to live up to the hype and build up, if it’s a “psych” I will not be pleased at all.

  105. August 30, 2007

    Jake

No big deal that you goofed on the sherry. Everybody makes mistakes, even experts, and it’s clear that you know your subject through and through. I like that you combine education with entertainment and shooting from the hip — you have the right perspective on it.

  106. August 30, 2007

    NathanN

Thanks for the double header. I love it when you do blind tastings.

QOTD: Posted it in the forums. Can’t wait to watch!

Gary this is sweet 2 episodes in 1 day wow. I came into work and checked the site and got to watch a new one this morning :) I am stoked about the huge announcement today!!!

    QOTD:
-Is gary going to visit all the vaynernation while doing the show? That would be sweet!!!

  109. August 30, 2007

    Big Gulp

You did a lot less spitting and a lot more drinking on this episode.
Be careful not to get a little “tipsy tip.”

  110. August 30, 2007

    Sassodoro

I didn’t see there was a second episode until this morning. Thanks!

I’m guessing the big announcement will be something about a redesigned Cork’d site.

Because WE (with more than a little of YOU) are creating a wine culture in this country.

    Jayhitek

I was wondering it a few days ago when you brought Eric into the camera, but know I am more intrigued..
    Is he wearing a wig?

    mike segerson

love the oracle as well as the Octavius. I bought 2 cases of the oracle for CHEAP and drink it fairly frequently. well worth the $$

also, anyone interested in shiraz, get yourself a bottle of the 2004 apricot block by greenock creek. simply amazing! actually anything from greenock creek or their main winemaker chris ringland are exceptional. as is Amon Ra. all of which, in my opinion, trounce penfolds grange…

Thanks for the second show. Great surprise…

Agree with Tim – blind tastings are great. I want to see you get more specific next time. Guessing the varietal, origin, age, etc… Let’s put that sniffy-sniff to a real test.

QOTD: I keep thinking it’s got to be a TV deal with Food Network or something, but how would you have know about that 200+ days ago? Is your wife having a kid? Would be exciting, but not as much for the Vayniac Nation… I CAN’T FIGURE IT OUT. HURRY UP AND ANNOUNCE IT ALREADY!!!!

Hi Gary. I’ve been “lurking” for a few weeks now (read about your show in Slate). Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy the show and have been learning a lot. I was going to register for a wristband (but did not) but noticed that you are wearing a Vassar shirt in the photo that appears when you click on the link. Did you go there? I was class of 1985.

It would be nice to see you blind-tasting some wines that you don’t

Ditto on the birds. I thought that was the squeaking I’ve been hearing in the other episodes. A bit distracting and could live without (and I’m a former cockatiel owner, so I feel a bit guilty about saying that)…

QOTD: I havent signed up yet but WILL, but without honestly knowing I will guess here. Are you making your own wine? Come on, you can tell me. I swear being a year late I havent read comments or looked at episode #305. Really. Anyway, I enjoyed the episode. I always like it when you do blind because youre always surprised at the results, which is of course one of the points of it. The 2nd wine sounds like my favorite, because I would mind being torn loose in a candy shop. Fruit bomb + candy = Happy me.
