This should be an interesting week. I hope the wines in the future bring the thunder unlike this show. The Jets losing to the VILE Patriots might have something to do with it, though. God do I hate the Patriots as well. Almost as much as I hate the Red Sox. To me, the Red Sox are the evil empire. QOTD: Laziness. I see so much of it at work it drives me insane. My co-worker and I make constant sarcastic remarks about it. Its basically one of the few things at that job that keeps us sane.

QOTD: I have to agree with HuskerJamie. Packer fans make me sick too. And living in Minneapolis, there are a lot of them.

Gary, I just found your TV tasting note on Grimaldi Dolcetto – I received a few phone calls looking for this wine, they said they saw it on your show. If you think that his Dolcetto is interesting, you should try his 2003 Conca Barolo. Beautiful!

You mentioned Slovakia for the very first time on the show, which made me happy. Hopefully, the time, when you have a slovak wine on show is coming. Fingers crossed :)
QOTD: These days, I’m getting really sick of re-inventing the wheel.

    Gary:

Great show. Sorry for the Jets :-( There’s always next week!

Happy Birthday from Chapel Hill…a few days late to Pappa Vayniac!

    Hooray for FREE SHIPPING!

Great t-Shirt….but what do you call a part-time lurker??? When ya gotta work…sometimes that’s what ya have to be.

QOTD: The list is endless. Most folks right on target (politicians, screaming kids, wine snobs at wine tastings) but one not mentioned…wine sludge at the bottom of a bottle. Ever take an accidental gulp of that! UGHHHH

Tip of the day (TOD)….here’s a trick I learned from my friend Randy S. at Ledson Winery in Sonoma. To do a real “sniffy-sniff”, take one of your BIG bordeaux glasses, add about 1 ounce of wine, tilt the glass on it’s side so it’s flat on the table (making sure not to spill any juice) and roll it back & forth a several times to throughly coat the glass. Then do a “sniffy-sniff”. You will be amazed!!!! Totally unconventional(isn’t that what this is all about anyway!), wine snobs will shriek :o , The nose of the wine takes on a whole new life! Talk about the A.E.s!!!!! Give it a try!

Love the show during lunch breaks!

Gary…converted lurker. New to the site and love the idea and innovation!!! Also, fellow Jets fan and happy to hear you set the record straight with the the whole “Chad booing” situation.

Keep up the good work…hope to be more active here in the future.

Sorry about your Jets. But, hey, sadly, I am a Browns fan and we sucked pretty badly as well. In fact so badly, that we not only changed QBs in the first quarter, but we traded our starting QB yesterday. Sigh!

QOTD: The Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Yankees make me SICK. :-(

BTW, I actually had a Lemberger from Washington State and it was interesting – a little weak, perhaps, but still kind of interesting to try.

    Andrew

    Hey Gary, thanks

QOTD: Ignorance and aggression, but I’ll also whack in a few ‘wine’ focused responses:
    - 40% wine tax in Hong Kong.
    - Shit poor wine storage in Hong Kong which means that bottles of wine in the super-market are often covered in mold.
    - The embarrassing bad Australian wines sold in Hong Kong; though many good ones are out there.
    - The belief in the Asian wine market that cork seals are better then screw tops (especially in a tropical environment).
    - 400% mark-up from retail on restaurant wine lists in Hong Kong.
    - Restaurants that refuse to serve you tap water.
    - And the lack of respect/acknowledgement/knowledge about Australian Riesling, Semillon, fortifieds and Botrytis affected dessert wines.

    Cheers
    Andrew

Thanks for the episode. The first wine you tasted is in the store that I work and I hadn’t tried it yet.

Not an NFL fan so I’m not getting all time and energy you spend on it, but oh well.

Sent the email to your dad. Kind of weird but fun.
